From the author of the life-changing book Outrageous Letting the Divine Take the Lead , a thoughtful collection of prayers and stories to help you actively invite the Divine into your life.
“Change me Divine Beloved into One who can give and receive freely and be a clear vessel for Your Light.”
In this sequel to her first book, Tosha Silver, with her characteristic mix of passion and humor, shows how to embrace transformation from the inside out. Covering a variety of topics—from work and finances to love and self-worth— Change Me Prayers shows how to truly surrender to a Divine plan in the most joyous and uplifting way.
At its heart, this book is a spiritual guide to help anyone open to this union with Love, even in times of difficulty or crisis, and includes a convenient “Change Me Prayers Quick Guide.” Tosha proves to be a profound, unique, and often hilarious guide to awakening. May the Divine permeate every part of your life!
Re-reading this book. I love Tosha Silver. And I love this book of Change Me Prayers. Her books have changed my life. Strongly recommended to my GR family.
Hmmmm...the book...this one is a ponderer....the short stories, antidotes is what I was expecting from Tosha, why I bought the book. She really is a wonderful writer / Spiritualist (if there's such a thing) - she gets me....but the prayers at the end, well, they really got in there, inside my vulnerability and took it to a new level and I wasn't expecting that. So, the stories, light and fluffy and relatable, but the prayers are heartfelt and relatable and I wasn't expecting that...but it was a pleasant pleasant surprise. So I caught myself reading the stories and saying oh yeah, I'm coming back to "this one"....what I like, what I really really like is that the stories are honest, true, quirky, so herself, funny and short - which makes me want to go back again and again.
Already excited about her next foray into writing whenever that is - whatever it's about.
The audiobook is read by Tosha Silver. Listening to her stories and prayers is like having a guardian angel whispering in your ear. As soon as I finished listening to it, I started it again, I enjoyed hearing her voice and message so much. Like her first book, Outrageous Openness, this book may be best read like poetry -- one short entry at a time or choosing at random a piece to meditate on while holding a question or concern in your heart -- if you can resist the temptation to just keep going, that is. Her message is about giving your life over to Spirit but though she is Jewish by heritage, her own spiritual practice is all-encompassing and is very much in keeping with much of the yogic tradition. In other words, this is something that can be fit into your own religious/spiritual practices (or lack thereof) without reliance on dogma.
Book Pairings: Tosha Silver's first book Outrageous Openness, of course. Christinana Northrop's Goddesses Never Age. Elizabeth Gilbert's Big Magic. Ram Dass's Polishing the Mirror. Patanjali's yoga sutras (various translations).
I love this book. I love Tosha's work and of all her books, this is the one that is most useful on a daily basis. There's prayers for any situation or feeling you find yourself in. Wish I had bought hard copy rather than ebook so that I could just flip the pages each day and let it tell me what I need to know. If you resonate with surrender as a way to get into the flow of life, you need this book in your library.
I find interesting the hypothesis that our responsibility is to invite the Divine to show us our way. However, this does not mean that we are passive or irresponsible because we have been following the guidance. Through the power of these prayers we can be changed from within, although sometimes patience is required. :)
I used this book as a morning devotional. Tosha's stuff is always fun to read but also very inspiring. Her stories remind me to trust in the Divine. No one convinces me quite like she does. I look forward to her next book.
As a teen, I was not the nicest of people that one would meet. I was stubborn, selfish, and sad. I paid my price, learned my lessons after that. And then I played the victim for a while and again learned the lesson that life doesn't change until you take responsibility. It made a lot of sense. So much sense that, life did change. For what felt like the first time in my life, I was happy and still am thankfully so. I know how to keep myself happy. There are days when I lose track but I know the way to get back to my happy place. I am glad, thankful, and maybe even slightly proud of my journey.
But but but the problem with taking responsibility is that not everything is in our control. You could put in your best effort for the exam and still not make it. You could drive so carefully and yet get into an accident. Some of the nicest people that we know have gone through things that are heartbreaking to even imagine let alone wish upon anyone. Not everything is under our control.
After a few years of my newfound happiness, I now realize acceptance, trust, and surrendering to what is not in our hands is necessary for happy and peaceful survival. And I realize I am not good at it, not even good at it at a beginner level. This is where books like "Change me prayers" help.
This book reminded me a lot of the Gita poem on "எதை நீ கொண்டு வந்தாய், அதை நீ இழப்பதற்கு?" Trying to practice suggestions from this book is helping me feel breezier :) The older I get the more I look forward to this never-ending journey!
This little prayer book is more than just that. There is a chapter before each prayer illustrating the proper approach behind each one. All the chapters are simple little stories Tosha Silver, the author, derives from her own life. They are humorous and engaging.
An addition to her first book, Outrageous Openness, this is a different approach from the usual. The main approach is Hindu/Yoga, with some hippie and feminist thrown in for good measure. Everyone could benefit from this little book, though! While some people use prayer to rail against themselves and their misfortune and ask for help to rise above their lot in life, this book will teach you to relax and work with the flow.
This was an amazingly inspiring and soothingly hopeful book. I read Outrageous Openness almost at one go and right after that the author's other book "Change Me Prayers", so I'll review these together, as I can't separate my thoughts about these both wonderful books.
These books where both entertaining to read - "Outrageous Openness" even more so. The stories give a wonderful rainbow of ways small selves make their own life harder, which helped me to recognize things of myself. I didn't only notice "bad things" but a lot of good ways I'm already living and how much those thoughts without doubt have already blessed my life.
I don't consider my self a religious type of a person, so for me the divine is some sort of a universal energy or perhaps just my own higher self. These books don't push any particular religion, which I liked a lot.
And the following are some reasons why I wanted to read these books and why I'm so happy that I did. I'm quite an idealistic and I feel very anguished because of the state of the planet and how much suffering there seems to be in the world. I struggle with choices what are environmentally good choices overall, how to support small local economics, how much to donate for charity, what to eat, how to exercise, where and how to live, I'm I good enough and unselfish enough a person etc. There is so much to consider when doing "right" choices. And so many times me wanting something still gets the first priority. Like air travel. I love to travel, but feel bad because of pollution. And every now and then I feel bad that I have so much wonderfulness in my life (non-material and material), and so many seems to have a very little. ... Don't get me wrong. In spite of these feelings most of the time I'm a very happy person by nature. The life just is too beautiful to spoil it by worrying constantly. And I'm getting better and better by the years not to worry about things I don't feel to be able to change.
I've already started and I've definitely going to continue to change my mindset towards where these two books show the way. I already have a lot of wonderful techniques that have helped me a lot to be more present, follow my intuition and love myself more. I'm hoping that by following these books' guidance I can forget bad conscience for good and trust myself that I'm guided to make the right choices from all points of view.
Really like Tosha Silver's work, she is an inspiration and this book is very informative and one I refer back to often! The Change me prayers are so helpful during stress filled days, they help me get and stay centered and ready to tackle life's challenges and really appreciate and welcome life's joys.
Not only is this such a sweet, wise book I could turn it over and start the whole thing again...I can so see this book being my go to oracle and guidance. Love it Tosha!
First, let me say that my copy of "Change Me Prayers: The Hidden Power of Spiritual Surrender," by Tosha Silver has 252 pages, including the end pages. Oftentimes, I find that there is a bit of a discrepancy between the copy I have and the number of pages. I had already decided, recently, to begin looking up a book, using its ISBN.
Second, this is one of the most beautiful, spiritually uplifting and empowering books I have read, not written by Dr. Catherine Ponder, who is the director of the Unity Church Worldwide, headquartered in Palm Desert, California. I AM long aware of the power of surrendering and releasing to the Divine, and this thought, this practice was brought home to me, via this book; frankly, it gave me an opportunity to take a deeper dive into surrendering my life, my world, my desires and my needs to Divine Will.
Recently, this book helped me taught me how to take a situation in my life, one that had happened before, and rather than freak out about it, come from a place of Spiritual Surrender, from Divine Faith, from not only knowing but DEEPLY KNOWING that I AM always provided for by the Divine, in every situation, with every obstacle, with every challenge, with every hardship.
I remain surprised at how well I handled this situation recently.
In the meantime, the book begins with a wonderful Foreward by Lissa Rankin, MD, who has been a Divine Inspiration to Ms. Silver, then goes into seven different parts, from "Divine Guidance," to "Divine Surrender," and each part has stories; anecdotes, if you will, of how the Divine gives one clear and evident signs of Its Presence.
After that, an Epilogue, then a section called "Tosha Answers Your Questions," then the "Change Me Prayers Quick Guide," then various Change Me Prayers on so many different topics, from Acceptance to Clarity, from Fear and Flow, all the way to a few pages for the reader to write their own Change Me Prayers.
In these kinds of situations, I can easily hear the voice of THE LeVar Burton when he was the host of "Reading Rainbow," saying, "Don't take my word for it." Indeed, please do not take my word for it on how remarkable this book is, and how much of an impact it can have on your life. Also, this book worked very well with all the other things I do, both Spiritually and Magickally, not interfering with any of my other Spiritual and Magickal practices.
This book is especially ideal for those who feel they must control every aspect of their lives. And yes, this comes from someone who used to be a major control freak.
After reading “It’s Not Your Money” wanted to read more from Tosha Silver which lead to “Outrageous Openness” both of which I found enlightening and just what I needed. Continued to trust Divine guidance, ordered “Change Me Prayers” and gratefully guided as this book is one to dip into daily and often or just to pick a page randomly as reminder and inspiration. The stories followed by prayers are engaging and inspiring due to Tosha’s insight, sharing her experiences and told with the perfect pinch of humour to not only remind you of what to seek within, but the path to the divine can be paved with fun in a creative way. Also has a listing of prayers for all occasions to get you started, practice and in time may lead to honour and trust your own way to create your own prayers from your heart”s intention and intuition. Love books and authors who seek to inspire through sharing of their real life experience and practicality, bonus if done with a sense of humour as spiritual life can be fun and enjoyable. Gratefully and enjoyably connected with Tosha and her writings.
I’ve been done this book for a while now but didn’t want to mark it as “read.” Truthfully, I don’t think I’ll ever be “done” reading this book.
Tosha Silver’s work came into my life via the Goodreads algorithm and I couldn’t be more grateful. I started with Outrageous Openness and have purchased/read every one of her books.
Change Me Prayers is like a handbook for when shit hits the fan. It has completely revolutionized my take on manifesting and surrender and I couldn’t be more grateful for the shifts. While the stories in this book feel more forced and much less poignant than the ones in Outrageous Openness, the actual prayers at the end of each of feel like the missing piece from her first book. I feel grateful that I can use this book as an oracle moving forward, diving in and out as needed, certain to get the message that is meant for me.
5+ ⭐️ I literally cannot recommend this book (and Outrageous Openness) enough!
Both my inner hippy & outer scientist (I'm an Iron Dog/Pisces if that helps) loved Outrageous Openness to the point that I bought 5 of them to give to friends in transition or crisis who I felt would be open to Silver's philosophy.
She's struck another vein of gold in Change-Me Prayers. I was afraid to read it, that it might not live up to what I felt was the perfect message of Outrageous Openness. I should not have worried.
By turns sentimental, astonishing, powerful and sublime, the stories and prayers in this book were linked vignettes that brought gasps and smiles.
I chose the audiobook with Silver's own playful candid narration. I ordered it as a book when I realized I wanted to see and have the prayers nearby.
Let me offer my greatest thanks to Ms. Tosha for writing this book. This was a guide of utmost distilled wisdom, written with absolute love and I felt spoken to and called to every lesson and prayer. I'm only 24, and I know so little but I have never seen a synthesis of Advaita and Bhakti philosophy at work, melting so gorgeously as an offering and a guide to whoever is parched for it. The call to the beloved in the form of Kali ma or Shakti and to self always brought tears to my eyes - such sublime and fragrant coming home. I use these prayers almost everyday, twice a day to breathe back into my body, into myself. If this is a call for any reader to read this, I assure you, it will fill your cup till it overflows.
If you want to know how to live a life of surrender, then this is a must-read. This book is filled with short uplifting stories about how live in sync with a divine plan. If you offer your problems and desires to the Source, then you will be shown the right action. Everything from parking spaces to creating new habits, to big life decisions — you are never alone. To ask sincerely for help, is to invite the power that has made the cosmos into your life. The book is also filled with short powerful prayers, "change me" prayers, which help us shift out of the ego and allow our higher selves to take over. This is a easy to read, powerful book, that can — just maybe — change your life.
Tosha is one of my fav inspirational teachers and authors.
At the end of the book, Tosha includes questions from readers. This one jumped out. Q: If everything is perfect as it is, why ask to be changed? A: these prayers are not challenging the innate perfection of the Universe as it is. They address YOUR OWN LACK OF HARMONY with WHAT IS. They allow you to move into harmony, and they show the actions to let the Divine lead the way.
This book will be used often and as a daily oracle. :)
What can I say about Tosha Silver?? She is one of my most favorite teachers. ❤️ Both this book and her book, “Outrageous Openness” have shifted my life for the better. Her quirky anecdotes and examples of Change Me Prayers make this a sort of highly entertaining reference book. I own both of her books on Kindle, but plan to buy the hard copies for easy future reference when I need some divine assistance and inspiration.
Looved this book so so much! But then again, I’ve loved and reread all of Tosha’s books more than once! What I loved about this book is all of the different mini stories and real-life synchronicities describing how the Divine is always there to guide us and support us. Felt so good to read one or more stories every morning. And the prayers help guide me with my own life struggles too. Highly recommend!
Another great book by Tosha, inviting me to trust the process and surrender to a divine plan. This book read like a daily devotional, as there were several short stories under each chapter. But the stories are so interesting (and always mixed with Tosha’s wit and humor) I always read more than one. This is a book I will return to again and again, especially for the Change Me Prayers Quick Guide at the back of the book.
Definitely a little 'new age'-y for those used to bible studies but I enjoyed the prayers and Tosha's wording and writing. Where she says "Divine One" I insert Oh Lord, Jesus my Redeemer - and honestly the wording is perfect. It is very uplifting and positive as far as reinforcing the importance of honesty and surrender and hoping for the best for yourself and others.
I love this book as it is written from a perspective that anyone of a spiritual nature can take what they need from it. I have read the entire book with it's colorful stories and experienced many "aha" moments. I keep this book on my nightstand and open to a random story or prayer which often turns out to not be so random, but applies wonderfully to whatever my current situation is.
I love Tosha Silver’s books and her perspective. Turning it all over to divine source and prayers to release it all and trust that the divine has you best intentions in place. This changes my perspective on problems and challenges and the best way on how to handle them. Reading this book and her others feels like a big relaxing breath of fresh air.
Decided not to read this book after only a few pages. There was a time I probably would have loved this book, but now as my studies and faith in Christianity grows, I am increasingly uncomfortable with books that leave themselves open to appealing to any power (including darkness pretending to be otherwise), and not staying purely with God/Jesus.
I laughed and got chills throughout this book. Tosha reminded me that I am small and silly in the best ways and that I can release my small self dreams and desires to someone greater than me. Helpful for making me drop my shoulders and breathe.
I admit I love all of Tosha Silver's books. This one was really helpful in terms of getting me to understand surrender and how i can live in that open space. The change me prayers have helped me shift my focus to one that actually brings me more of what I want.
