Smitten, I was, the day I stepped into your space, uninvited and unable to give a simple f--k.
Aroused, I was, the second your lips parted and your words serenaded me. Without a doubt, I knew I would take the opportunity to part the lower pair and mark my territory with precision.
Disheartened, I was to learn that you had vowed to another n---a what should've been mine from the beginning, whether I'd stumbled into your world yet or not. The fact that you settled without meeting me first left a bitter taste in my mouth, forcing my hand. My mission was easily established, and I refused to rest until you were beside me.
Whole, I became, the moment God answered those prayers I put in and blessed me beyond measure. From that day, my priority has been and will always be catering to your every desire because you deserve a love that doesn't make you wonder, whimper, or worry. I've got that kind of love, and I'm here to give it to you.

From the moment I read the snippet she posted on TikTok, my exact statement was “this that ‘Luca’ Grey”! For me *places hand on chest* Luca has been the standard in the Huffington world. So to get a preview into the world of Mercer, I knew for those 3-4 short paragraphs that he was going to rock my world. I was in love with Mercer from the moment we got a glimpse on him in Ledge’s book and Grey definitely saved the best Domino for last. From the very beginning of the book, our first encounter of him, I was in LOVE 🥰. Like dig up my entire backyard, front yard AND basement if it means I get a Mercer in return!
Mercer had this silent yet commanding presence that you can’t help but give your undivided attention to. His actions were LOUD, his dedication to Vallei was LOUD and most importantly, his love was LOUD. If “pull up” was a person, it would be Mercer because baybeeee the man was the pull up king! Whether it was a 15 minute pull up or one that required a three hour drive, he was coming! He anticipated a need for his presence without the words falling from Vallei’s lips. I mean sis hit the jackpot and didn’t even know it! Mercer was all consuming in the best was possible.
Book Highlights
* If there’s one thing Mercer is going to tell you to do, it’s to STFU 😆😆 I loved it every single time! * Showing up to her studio mid phone conversation 🥰❤️🥰 * Pulling her off that bus 😩 * The pasta message during date night 🥺❤️ so Chefy of him! * Them serenading each other while they waited for the results. If the man could’ve peed for her he would have😩 * You got served 😆📑🖋️
I can go one and on about why you should read this book but I’ll spare you. Grey’s name in these literary streets speaks for itself. Her work will forever set the standard 🗣️all of em! Don’t sleep on her gift!
Whewww that damn Mercer was everything I thought he would be and more😭😭! BDE yuuur heard me
The way he loved on Vallei was everything omgg! 🥰😭😭🙌🏾🙌🏾
And when he started the song off with IDGAF by TEE GRIZZLEY ft Chris Brown on their date , if I was Vallei too I’d be weak in the knees real bad😂! first date was everything …🤎🤎🤎
That man stood on business periodt!! Mercer sat the bar pretty high 😭🥰, and I love it 😭❤️
Mercer is my favorite M yet! Sigh, where do I even begin. The BDE kept getting worser and worser and I was here for it all.
From the moment Mercer met Vallei, he treated her like she was his. Like he expected her to obey and follow his lead and not in an egotistical way, but in a way that he would never lead her astray. When he said he would do anything for her, that is exactly what he meant! This man was just everything. I love a quiet, flawed, intentional boss of a man that is decisive and don't play about the people he loves and that was Mercer. Wait AND he was a chef too. Sign me up cuz I want to be fed well too 😫😫
Y'all know I'm not one for infidelity, but as Grey said at the end this is the good kind if there is one. Vallei had been unappreciated, overlooked, and cheated on for years. Her thoughts and feelings didn't matter. Philip was a piece of shii, and yes what they were facing was hard but to completely disregard her feelings and the love he supposedly had for her was beyond me. So yes it was the GOOD kind of infidelity.
Mercer came at the right time. God placed a man in her life that would love her unconditionally. That would always always come whenever she needed him. That protected her and didn't let her spend a dime of her own money, even though she was crazy rich. This was such a good love story and I felt the pull they had for each other. I felt the pain of them being apart. I'm so happy they finally got to experience their love on their terms with a miracle in tow.
From the beginning, I have been intrigued by the characters Mercer and Chem. My heart belonged to Mercer's "Anything Pretty" right from the start 🥴. My goodness, Mercer lived up to my expectations and then more. Ugh I just want to pluck him from my phone cause I need a man that's going to pray on me like Mercer. You couldn't help but give Mercer your whole attention because of his quiet authority. His affection, his devotion to Vallei, and his behaviors were all very noticeable. His care, his affection, and his expressions Being the eldest, he wasn't going to mess around with Vallei like his younger brothers ( iykyk them Domino boys love to play). I don't know Grey did her BIG one with this book. However, I did like that this was during Makai's absence because we kind of understand how his decision affected everyone a bit. putting that aside, I would have liked to have seen more of Mercer's illness and, maybe, Phillips's family reaction to the divorce.
I loved Mercer downnnnn! He was everything. I didn’t expect to love him or this story as much as I did, but Grey got the job done. I can’t wait for what’s next!
Mannn say… Grey got a way with words to make you feel it in your MF chest!!!!
Whewww!! What a beautiful love story. So pure and raw even through the valleys of love and life.
Mercer did not disappoint!! Everything about him! His attentiveness, his love, his communication, his BDE! Ugh!! Love love love him down!!
Vallei! From her aura, to her talents, to the way she loves MY MAN! My girl you deserve the world and I’m so glad you didn’t let your husband stop you from meeting the love of your life.
What a perfect way to end this series. I say this every time I write a review for Grey but the pen gets better and better every single time. Like I never thought I could continue to fall in love like this. 🥹❤️
Mercer…swoon 🥰😍 That man was quiet, observant, and oozing all the sexy. I love a quiet, stoic man and that was exactly who Mercer was. He demanded attention and commanded a room without a word like no other. He wasn't looking for love when he Met Vallei, but he fell hard and fast for her. Vallei was in a loveless marriage, suffering in silence. Mercer came into her life and flipped it upside down, in the most amazing, loving, protective way. Mercer loved that girl with his whole heart. And when he said “anything”, he meant It. Mercer saying “anything” is a whole love language. Although Vallei didn't really leave a lasting impression on me, I still enjoyed her. Love that she got her HEA. She so deserves it. This book was heavy on the family and the love part. I love getting to know these siblings. I love how they loved each other, I love how they loved their women. I love how protective they are of their circle. Loved, loved this one. Can't wait for Chem. 4.8⭐️⭐️
Vallei had felt overlooked and unappreciated for years, constantly being cheated on. Phillip wasn't worth a damn. Then Mercer entered her life at just the right moment. His love for Vallei was everything she had been missing; his devotion and affection was felt, even through the screen. *When he prayed over her womb*🥹
I started this book at 4:45pm. as i’m typing this, it’s 2:50a. I haven’t put this book down. this was just a good book bro. mercer and vallei are truly my favorites. I can’t wait to see what vallei’s book has in store for us. i’m interested to get more back story on chem & egypt also. they are forever super cute to me. kleu is my all time fave because she was not playing with mercer 🤣🤣🤣 I enjoyed reading about vallei & mal’s relationship & seeing how they navigate friendship. vallei’s momma???? love her. 10/10.
Mercerrrrrr 😍😍😍 I love him! He plays no games and he’s always going to step behind the ones he loves. I absolutely adored how he cares for Vallei and how he treats her. Their love and chemistry is incredible. Vallei has such a sweet and pure soul. She is the perfect person for Mercer. Someone to calm him and keep him tethered when needed.
I can’t decide who I love more between Makai and Mercer. They have been my favorites out of all the men in the Grey Huffington universe.
I am so upset that this was the final instalment for the Berkeley Bread Series. I am going to miss them 🤍
This was the perfect ending to the series, Mercer & Vallei, I loved them so much. The level of maturity both of them displayed really made this storyline. When I first heard it was an infidelity trope (although I don’t mind the trope), I was nervous about how it would go, but as per usual, Grey never disappoints! The story was well thought out, everything both Mercer & Vallei did was justified , I stand on it!!
Mercer’s struggles & having the pressures of being the Second-first born and having everything together , was a story well explored & seeing how he was able to find a safe space to surrender and be himself, was beautiful.
Vallei, a creative goddess, everything about her I loved and I was rooting for her from the beginning! Her talent, her way with words, the poems, just everything! She was so deserving of her hearts desires.
There was just so much Grey Huffington covered, well written.
The smut though 🥵🥵🥵🔥🔥🔥
It was good to see my faves pop up again. it’s never goodbye, it’s see you later 🤍
Have Mercy, this story had me hooked after Mercer made his presence and his intentions a major factor in the very beginning. Most of the time I try to understand weakwoman syndrome. But Vallei took the entire cake. She allowed her slick embarrassing unable to pass the bar exam husband run amok in their relationship. With all the BS her husband doled out, I did not care that Phillip was a member of that attorney brood. And although Vallei was not ready for Mercer, she was over Phillip's antics.. However, Mercer's onstage presence would be perfect for this new miniseries I would love to see. My heart ached with all the obstacles hurled at Vallei and Mercer combined. In the end. Mercer prevailed with his girl in tow.
I love this one so much. I don’t know who to pick I loved Luca as much as I loved Mercer and then there’s makai to, can I just have them all?
I loved how patient and loving Mercer was to Vallei. From the moment they first saw each other they fell in love.
For years the doctors have been telling Vallei she can’t have children via natural conception and what happens when Mercer comes through. Maybe Philip was the problem.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This series was so awesome!!!! Mercer’s story was so unexpected and kept me in a chokehold!!!!!! I don’t even know how to unpack this!!! I just know I felt all of it! Ms Huffington knows how to make you FEEL it!!! Ohhhhh emmmm geeeeeeee…just wow!!! Why I’m not made about it at all???? Maybe because I experienced the neglect that Vallei lived and I understand how you operate when you are afraid to leave what’s already left you!
I don’t know how I’m going to put into words all that I’m feeling or thinking. I’m going to start off with bravo 👏 grey just bravo! Mercer the final installment of the Domino Berkeley Bred crew came with all we wanted. I don’t agree with infidelity but in this relationship it was a lost cause Vallei was dealt with a bad hand of a person that she was supposed to call her other half he degraded her spirit in pieces by showing her she was nothing. Mercer came full force but are we really surprised he’s a domino that man said idgaf lmao. He gave her back life spiritually, mentally, physically and emotionally in many ways, even while battling his own issues just goes to show how strong love can be. Grey executed she wrote the 💩 out this book full throttle. Seeing the crew again with their brotherly love and compassion and women supporting women and making Vallei feel their love was so nostalgic and heart warming. Vallei and Mercer got their blessings and more. I can imagine how Makai acted when he came home to all these new things in play and wish I got to see that 😂 but we got to see what went on in those months missing. I loved Vallei’s mom she spoke life into her constantly and was always at her front and back as a mother should. I love Grey’s representation into mental illness and not making it control who they are but working to who they wanna be❤️. I’m excited for Chems journey to come and learn about his mysteriousness as the oldest brother in the shadows especially being introduced to his women “Egypt” yall hear that name sounds like royalty dripping 🤣. As well as his sisters who I definitely feel we might get more of as well a very interesting bunch. I’m really going to miss this the Eisenberg and Domino chapters closed but I love it because it means they got the happiness they all deserved and are thriving especially with them constantly bringing new life into their world making more blessings🥹. Now I’m about to finish the crews story with Vallei and Kleu’s lil novella next✌️
(Definitely a spoiler below sorry)
Penelope a real one as a sister in law and women sis said idc if that’s my brother leave his behind and call your man I’m with the antics lmbo
P.s. Mercer and Vallei naming their son after Malachi (messenger of god) made me wanna cry I just love these people‼️
I can’t wait for all the work Grey got in the bag for us coming dear lord 👏
Mercer was the perfect end to the Berkeley Bred series. The oldest of the Dominoes and arguably the hardest. Mercer shot to top 3 for me. He was a grown damn man. GROWN. He was stepping for Pretty and I was pining for him. Wearing the weight that comes with being the eldest and the guilt of being gone during some of the most tumultuous times in his brother’s life caused a tear in Mercer’s cool exterior. I adored that he was in therapy; reading that did something for me. Although clearly a fictional character, it was nice to see a man seek help outside of their comfort zone, outside of their immediate circle. We witnessed Mercer work through a condition that he absolutely despised while still facing it and taking the necessary precaution to ensure he was whole for his brothers….his livelihood….his Pretty. I enjoyed this. Grey be writing. Ya hear me.
I was not ready for this one 😭😭🫶🏾🫶🏾 the writing was just BEAUTIFUL ❤️ by far my favorite of the Berkeley Bred series! I loved seeing the different layers of Mercer and to watch him step in his greatness despite fear and what life has dealt him was just beautiful to witness. Vallei was just a beautiful soul 💕 diff one of my favorite characters! and I loved her happy ending the most... their love story was imperfect and just unmatched ❤️
“Not my fucking Pretty.” - Mercer. • • From beginning to the end this book had me hooked so much that I finished in 7 days. The minute Mercer showed up at Vallei’s door unannounced and took control was the minute I knew I needed to read this book in its entirety. • • Vallei’s story of going from a loveless marriage to being loved properly is a story I couldn’t overlook. Watching Vallei transform into the woman that she was destined to be because she was being loved properly was something to truly read about because I feel like many women can relate to her. • • What can I say about Mercer? BABY HE IS THAT 🥷! Hands down. I don’t know about the other brothers, but Mercer is top notch. • • SOME OF MY FAVORITE SCENES: - The bus scene. - The first time Vallei met the family. - The broom closet. So nasty and spicy. - Mercer finally taking Vallei away. - Mercer calling Phillip a square. I swear Phillip was a white man. 😂😂 - Vallei FINALLY telling Phillip off. 😡 - THE ENDING. 🥹🥹🥹🥹😩 • • I was happy that this book touched on so many topics like — mental health/illness, loss, grief, death, and so much more. It made the story very relatable. • • I know Grey said we’re leaving Berkeley, but I wanna stay right here. It feels so heavenly! 🥹
Mercer really was a great way to end the series. He knew what he wanted and was mature enough to make sound decisions in acquiring Vallei. I still felt the gangster in him but he also loved Vallei in such a healthy and thorough way. Talk about the master of “Coach Her Through It”. He fulfilled and exceeded every fantasy.
Vallei really spoke to my creative side. Her character had a lot of depth and she really rose on the list of my favourite Huffington girls. I love that she got her miracle but also that she learned from her past and made requests and decisions that benefitted her.
I love this book and I can’t wait to see what Grey comes up with next!
Grey!!!!!!! I cannot believe this story. It was so so so good! My pearls were clutched. My jaw dropped. My heart ached. My tears fell. Mercer is my man my man my man!!!! I cannot believe the gentleness and care that was taken in these two hearts. What a conclusion to the Berkley Bred series!
Grey Huffington did the thang with this book. This book captivated my attention from the first page. A beautiful love story. I have so many highlighted areas!!!!! I love Mercer!!! Just read the damn book.
Mercer is my favorite MMC in this series. I really enjoyed his book and I had to give the FMC some grace but overall I like her character. I like this book.
Makai, you had a good run however, Mercer has moved up the ranks. As soon as he entered that kitchen, he defined standing on business. Mercer and Vallei were locked in from the start. I loved the way Grey didn't shy away from the mental health history that has played a huge role in the Domino family's life. Grey, you did a great job at highlighting the daily struggles and showing that therapy can be an amazing addition to the treatment plan. So many painful themes were beautifully addressed and processed in this book. Mercer elevated as book Bae as soon as he stopped off that elevator. Everything afrerwards had me like Whew!!!!! I love the strong support systems that were evident. Those Domino/Eisenberg men and women continue to display loyalty, love, and dedication to ensure their loved ones are alwaysI good.
Ohhhhhh, Chem! From the start, I knew you'd be the one. Impatiently waiting for your arrival. See you soon❤️
4.5 stars come thru Mercer! Mercer for the win ladies and gentlemen. talk about changing someone's life. talk about Divine Destiny. the name man of your dreams knocks in your door?
this story was good once you get past the prologues. painful and long.
This was a great series. I did not want it to end. Mercer, my goodness. I loved this book. Between Makai and Mercer, I’m not sure who I love more. And I can’t forget about my man Luca. Grey Huffington is the goat.
Okay, I realize that the issue lies with me when it comes to this author. It's me, not them. I don't like the way they write. I don't like the way the characters are written and I don't like the way the characters exist. There's no better way to explain it but in that way.
I immediately read Makai's book before I read this one because I thought these two books would be the ones that would interest me the most based off the summaries. The other summaries didn't pique my interest in any way so I intentionally skipped those books because I can do what I want. But anyway, a lot of this review will be comparing and contrasting Makai's book with this one. You've been warned!
I liked Vallei better than I liked Glacier, but that's not saying much. Vallei felt older to me, and maybe that's why I felt more of a connection to her? I'm not saying it was a strong connection, but it had whispers of a connection, if you will. Mercer and Makai were incredibly similar. There wasn't much of a difference between the two men. Which also speaks volumes about the lack of imagination and creativity that can be found in these books. Just because people are related by blood doesn't automatically mean they're going to be damn near the same person. That's not how that works. Hell, they could be raised by the same parents in the same house for the same amount of time and they're still not going to be that similar to each other.
These characters just feel so ... empty. They feel so one-dimensional and flat in some ways and I can't quite put my finger on why they feel that way. I found both stories to be very wordy and verbose, so it wasn't a matter of there not being enough written but the way their stories were executed. It's almost like the author picked a popular character trope and applied it to the character and decided to let the trope do the heavy lifting instead of giving the readers a reason to root for and bond with the characters. There wasn't much to work with when it came to relating to these characters. Like, give me a reason to want these people to find their happiness and get their happy endings. Show me why they deserve it! Despite all that, I can say that Vallei felt more real than the rest of the characters I've read about. She still wasn't as layered and developed as I would like but she was far better than everyone else around her.
Either way, this was my second time trying to give this author a chance and I know where I stand with her. This author is NOT my cup of tea and that's fine. Her series are meant for someone, but that someone is not me unfortunately. Do I recommend this book? No. Do I recommend this author? Also, no.
