Loved it

Well, that was a swoony little treat! Elsie Silver fans are sure to love this grumpy single dad romance, which had similar vibes but a fresh, distinct feel. I adored the secretly sweet hero, who genuinely felt like he would never be enough for our strong and determined heroine. She knocked him off-balance the first time they met, and every chemistry-filled interaction just brings them closer. I loved the vulnerability our hero showed and the way he was steadfast in his feelings. The banter was playful, and the slowish burn shifted into a truly spicy read. It reminded me of Silver’s work in the best ways, and I’m eager to see where the series goes next - this was great.

The story follows James, a woman who works in a male-dominated industry. She grew up on a horse ranch and always believed that she’d take over as the lead trainer one day, but it’s become clear that her father will never give that job to a woman. Finally ready to move on, James accepts a position at a horse ranch out of state. She’ll be working with a horse who has proven to be difficult, under the supervision of the owner’s son, Adam. The man is always scowling and hesitant to let James in, but she soon discovers that he’s just got resting grump face. Adam is kind and loving with his son, and he seems to appreciate James’ training skills. But they both have their reasons to avoid crossing any lines, and that could prove to be trouble.

Bright is a new-to-me author, so I wasn’t sure what to expect diving in, but this grabbed my attention almost immediately. It was clear that both James and Adam were compelling characters, and they had an instant spark. I also loved that the story remains light overall, but isn’t afraid to dig deeper. Adam’s heart has never recovered from the end of his marriage, and neither has his self-esteem. He’s been left to feel like he’ll never be enough for any woman, let alone one as perfect for him as James. That causes just enough tension to keep things interesting, while also making it clear how good they are for each other. There’s some definite swoon and spice, especially when Adam allows himself to be vulnerable. I love a moody, broody cowboy who reveals himself to be soft and tender underneath the gruff, and that’s exactly what we’ve got here. There’s also a great supporting cast of characters, with breadcrumbs sprinkled throughout about future couples. I am absolutely intrigued - this was a very solid series starter, and an exceedingly bingeable read.

Book: 1.5-2 stars

Beginning felt like it would be a winner then no. The pacing became too fast and relationship was so surface level, didn’t make any sense where it went from boss, to hookup buddies to friends with benefits to in a relationship. And the miscommunication these two had was annoying.

I wanted to DNF, but I didn’t have another book so I sucked it up.. which was a mistake because it sucked.

POV - Dual 👫🏻

“For anyone who thought they had found their happily-ever-after only to watch it explode in their face... Good news, my love. You're not done yet.”

I’m a simple Gal. Cowboys, and Donuts, that’s all I ask for. And when I tell you Elizabeth delivered on the Cowboy(s) 😏
This was my first read by Elizabeth Bright, and I couldn’t get enough. I finished this book in like, a day? I hated having to put it down. This was such a smooth, easy read with a story they kept on flowing beautifully.

We have James, a strong FMC who knows her worth but is fighting for her dad to see it too. She wants to work at their family business, Blue Skies farm and be head horse trainer, but gets over looked and passed up. So what does she do? She goes where she’s wanted. And that just so happens to be at Lodestar Ranch in Colorado.
And that my friends, is where Adam comes in. He’s a grumpy cowboy & single dad, with a past relationship that really did him in. He believes that your one true love only happens once in life, and that already happened to him..Right?
So when he finds out James, in her cute pink cowboy boots, is the new trainer..? This girl thinks she’s going to be able to ride the unridable Palimino “Belle the Beast”? Well here’s the thing. James doesn’t back down from a fight, and most certainly won’t stay down if thrown off a horse. All it takes is a little patience, hope and most importantly, work to rebuild that trust and create a bond with Ad..Belle. Belle, the horse. 😁

This story gives playful banter, sentiment, swoon worthy moments, laughs and downright tugs on all your heart strings.
The supporting characters through out this book were immaculate and had me wanting to know more about them and their backstories.
- The brothers?? I need their books ASAP, I haven’t picked who’s my favorite yet.
- Hannah? I laughed out loud 🪡🧵❤️ easily one of my fav characters.
- Chloe and Essie? The best of friends we all need, and want in our lives.
- And of course we can’t forget Ted and his sandwich making skills. 😉

This beautiful story will leave you grasping at the reigns for more..and you just so happen to be in luck…😉
Buuuut in the meantime, In the words of Chloe, “Save a horse…Save so many horses.” 😜💕

HUGE Thank You to Elizabeth Bright for this ARC. I can’t wait for what more you have to come, and I’ll be on the sidelines cheering you on as you go! 👏🏻❤️

The way I CANNOT BELIEVE NO ONE IS TALKING ABOUT THIS BOOK. Like, friends... We love Elsie, and Melanie, and Lena, and Hannah.... We need to add Elizabeth to the list of authors that write THE BEST steamy and swoony western romances.
.
I am utterly obsessed with this book! I finally had to drag myself away from my kindle at 3am and was immediately back to reading when I woke up the next morning. The grumpy sunshine goodness that was packed into the pages was SO fun to read. The whole only soft for her, she makes him want to be a better person, he’s her biggest supporter vibes that Adam and James had going is my FAVORITE and I was cheesing for most of the book. Throw in the hot cowboy, single dad romance vibes and you already know I was sold.
.
I’ve read a bunch of cowboy romances and even more single dad romances... and this is definitely one of my favorites! A must read!

“She was like the sun. The closer I got to her orbit, the warmer I felt. And I was so fucking cold. Cold and empty.”

After four average or bad books, I was on the verge of a reading slump, but this one, I couldn't put down. It has everything I love in a romance. An independent, straightforward, witty and compassionate heroine who is fighting for the recognition she deserves. A grumpy, sarcastic, slightly broken hero with a golden heart. A heartwarming, emotional story about two people who are perfect for each other, overcoming their doubts and falling in love. Furthermore, just the right amount of banter and funny text messages. Lots of interesting side characters that I can't wait to read more about. Great scenes with family and friends. And even horses! (I missed a dog, though.)

So despite a few minor flaws, the book was a hit for me. I'm looking forward to Adam's brother's story with barrel racing champion Essie, to be published in fall 2024 (no exact date yet).

As for the title that catched my attention in the first place…

We watched him go because that ass wasn't something to look away from.

Disgruntled, I poked my straw into my iced coffee with a little more force than necessary. “Damn it. Why'd he have to be all nice and gentlemanly? Now I definitely can't bitch about him behind his back.”

Chloe snickered as she popped open her can of sparkling water. “That's not a gentleman. That's a cowboy. Completely different breed of animal.” She grinned at me. “You know what they say, a cowboy in the streets, a beast in the sheets.”

I nearly choked on my drink. “That's not how the saying goes.”

“Well, it should be.”

💬 Dammit this book was so good! I did have a little bit of a leg up on the story, because I actually read the third book in this series first because I read it as an ARC (which was how I discovered Bright) and because the third book was so amazing I haven't been able to stop thinking about this series and I pretty much just NEEDED to read it.

And this book definitely did not disappoint! When I say I devoured it I mean I ate it all left no crumbs (that's what the kids are saying these days right? 🤣)

Adam and James' story was so sweet and had me swooning all over the place. And honestly poor Adam just is breaking my heart with everything he's been through and how it destroyed him.

I also thought Bright did a really good job of portraying loss, and the complexity of emotions that surround those situations, especially with Adam but also with Ted.

The sandwich names were a very small part of the story, but it had me cracking up, and just like in Wild Wild Cowboy the girls' friend group giving her shit about Adam - especially Chloe 🤣 pretty sure we all need a Chloe in our life. (And hopefully a book focused on her?!?! PLEASE)

Another thing I noticed from WWC that was also in this book (and hopefully in the second book!!) is the text conversations at the beginning of a lot of the chapters- it was hilarious and I loved it so much.

I think my only complaint is that I wish there had been a little bit more of the story. Don't get me wrong the story was perfect, it's just that I wanted to bask in more of the story lol.

A Cowboy in the Streets
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 (4.75)

Thank you Elizabeth Bright and her team for giving me that opportunity to receive an eARC of this book. I am so very glad I was able to read this and read her work for the first time.

Oh my. I ate this up. I LOVE MYSELF A GRUMPY COWBOY. Such a perfect grumpy x sunshine book if you need one. Like I loved this book so much. One of my new favorite cowboy romances for sure this year. Like wow.

I really liked James character so much. She was such a positive character, a badass horse trainer, an ambitious woman. I just adored her. She was one head strong FMC who knew what she wanted and she went for it and got what she deserved even when she was unsure of it.

Adam. Oh Adam. That man deserves everything even when he doesn’t think so. He’s a single dad, grumpy cowboy, a very closed off man who I wanted to give a hug to so many times. His mouth? Don’t even get me started on the way this man speaks because I will fall on the floor and melt in a puddle or get on my knees.

I absolutely admired and loved how the relationship between the two unraveled and was created. They were each others missing piece that they needed to be whole.

This book was just so lovely. A short, quick, and amazing read. I am so thankful I got the opportunity to read this before release. Releases May 31!! (Go get it)

Tropes:

finally a book i read a snippet of on tik tok that didn’t let me down. this was so much better than i thought it would be. it was such a quick read but i felt so connected to all the characters.

it also had one of my favourite microtropes - FMC with a traditionally male first name that the MMC assumes is a man before they meet. not sure why but i bloody love it.

Adam & James -

-yes this is a M/F romance and James is a girl. You'll need to get past that unfortunate monstrosity of name choice. It may be the only thing I did not like about this book. Then he goes and nicknames her Buttercup.

*grumpy sunshine
*single dad / widow-ish
*age gap
*one bed
*boss / employee
*cowboy / horse trainer
*small town

I don't even know where to begin because I was giddy almost the entire book. I loved the banter, the character growth, the insecurities and the strong female lead. If I could swoop inside a fictional world and give a cowboy a hug, it would be Adam. This sweet specimen of a man thought he was not capable or worthy of love because his ex really damaged him. When she fell ill with cancer right after giving birth she decided she wanted to do all the things in life- but without Adam. She lived her final year to her fullest and with another man. He allowed the divorce and let her have her final happiness. It was heart wrenching. For 10 years he has raised his son as a single parent.

James came with her own insecurities because she was a girl working in a man's job as a horse trainer. She was damn good at her job while working for her father on his ranch but was never appreciated. When she was overlooked again for a promotion she took a position working on Adam (and his Father's) ranch.

The sexy banter, their chemistry and the way they just completed each other has made this an easy favorite of the year. The relationship between Adam's son and James was flawless. They became friends well before Adam and James became a couple. The plot was executed to perfection.

Then there is the friend group. Ladies we all need these friends in our lives. I can't hardly wait to read the next in this series when it comes out.

This was a cute read. I liked the story, overall, but I didn’t think it was executed well.

There are moments that don’t flow as well as I’d like. It’s as if the author knows where she wants to go, but doesn’t quite know how to get there, so she forces it.

Lots of word repetition, especially in small sections. Sometimes it could’ve been fixed by restructuring sentences. Other times, swapping out certain descriptors.

There were a few instances where the author was just really trying to bring certain points home. We get it. Her dad is a chauvinist. Adam has an aching erection. She has big boobs. We didn’t need it repeated so many times.

There was a bit of inconsistency on the timing. From one week to two to a month. But based on the events and when they were described to have happened, we shouldn’t be a month in. At one point they’d known each other for several months, then later on it was back to two months.

There were a couple off-putting moments. When they briefly discussed the “size” of his brothers. When Essie (knowing James is into Adam) flirts with him. I get the reason, but a friend wouldn’t flirt with my man.

Some of the aspects I’d think would be important (an 11-year-old son, a dead ex love and reading her journals, deciding not to go back to the family ranch) were glossed over. Then the end felt rushed. Age gap was listed as a trope, but we never even talked about it.

I have not read this author until now with this book. After reading the blurb I knew I had to read it and Omg, I am so glad I did. This book was sooo good! I loved it!

James and Adam were wonderful characters. I loved the flirty banter and sexual tension between these too. Seeing them interact with each other was amazing. I loved how James was with Adam's son. James was Adam's sunshine to his grumpiness. Haha!
Add in the spice and wow, I was a goner!

The other characters were hilarious too. I love Adam's family ranch and the small town it was apart of. Made me want to visit it if it was real!

This is a must read and I recommend it!

A COWBOY IN THE STREETS was a delight to read and I loved every second of it! In fact, this is how you write a grumpy MMC without using grumpy as an excuse for the MMC to be an asshole. Adam was scowly, didn't like to express his feelings, and wasn't overly social but he always respected James, both as a person but also for her talent as a horse trainer. He didn't want to be attracted to her, especially since he was her boss, but he never made that her problem or blamed her for his attraction (something I've seen too much in boss/employee romances). And yes, Adam started out struggling to communicate and was emotionally unavailable but the growth this man went through was beautiful to read!

James was equally fantastic and I loved how competent and determined she was to be successful in a male dominated field while also staying true to herself. She never hesitated to stand up for herself and go after what she wanted, including leaving her family's horse ranch and striking out on her own. I also really enjoyed her growing friendship with Chloe, Essie, and Hannah and the way she found her place at Lodestar Ranch. James was an incredibly self-aware woman with a ton of compassion and she was just the kind of partner Adam needed to bring some sunshine to his life.

There wasn't anything earth shattering about the plot but I loved Adam and James's romance and the way they cared for each other. Adam had a lot of baggage from his first marriage and didn't believe he would ever fall in love again or that he was enough to make someone else happy, so seeing James choose him and put him first was really nice. They both put in the work to make their relationship work and their chemistry was off the charts. Adam might spend most of his time scowling around the ranch but when things got heated that man had a filthy mouth.

Throw in some meddling brothers, a sweet 12 year old boy, some beautiful horses, and a pair of pink cowboy boots (that stay on 😉) and this was everything I was looking for in a cowboy romance. I can't wait to read more in this series!

I always claim I don't particularly like contemporary cowboy romances but I may have to admit to being a liar because this book has just proved me wrong on that score. I discovered this author through her histroms and then decided to give her contemporary romances a try and holy moly, this was a scorcher. There's a lot of loss and grief talk in this book so please pay attention to my content notes at the end of this review. But I loved the two MCs in this book, loved the ranch setting, and am very eager to start the next book. It's angsty but also soft, tender and sweet and sexy and I loved it but it very much may not be for everyone.

Content Notes: Hero lost his mother to cancer (off page) resulting in his dad turning to alcohol in his grief and causing their ranch to suffer as a result; dad has since stopped drinking; hero's late ex-wife was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer shortly after the birth of their son (now 11), and decided to leave him for her true love because she was dying and didn't want to spend the rest of her remaining days with someone she was not in love with. (all of this happens off page but is told via recollection). Heroine's father is sexist and misogynistic; slut shaming from minor side character;

This book is definitely a 4.5 stars. I love the characters, especially James, Adam and Ben. They’re a cute little family, it’s so heartwarming. I loved most of the characters honestly, (except for Steven and James’s dad). The love aspect was really good, I loved seeing their love bloom, and the one bed trope? OH MY GOD! One bed trope literally never fails.

I laughed when Essie put Adam’s hat on her, yes, it was really messy of her but it had to be done. She knew they needed a push and she did just that. I loved when James made a claim on Adam and called her his, it’s so refreshing to see the fmc taking control because it’s always the mmc.

It hurt so bad that Adam got screwed up by Emily, he did not deserve that at all 💔. He thought he wasn’t capable of love, when he definitely was!! I can’t wait for the next book for the series, (hopefully🙏) and I think it’s going to be Essie’s and that other brother (I forgot his name lol).

The reason why I took off .5 stars is because it felt a little too rushed. Everything was happening like BOOM BOOOM BOOM, and I was trying to understand.. but maybe that’s just my slowness.. But nevertheless, I read this book in one day, and loved it!

I absolutely adored this book, it got me out of a massive reading slump which I am so grateful for!

The chemistry and romance is even better than the spice and the pace of the plot was absolutely my favorite part. This book captured my attention from page 1, and I was never waiting for it to hook me again.

I finished the book within 24 hours, but for 8 of those hours I was sleeping and another 8 I was working. So basically I just devoured it.

Third Person, Dual POV

Adam (MMC) and James (MMC)

Pros:
I absolutely adored how, at the start of the story, the FMC confronts her dad and basically quits her job when he overlooks her for a promotion just because she's a woman 😤. Well done, girl, don't let anyone underestimate you!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I appreciate that she stands for herself and values herself, not settling for less.

The spicy scenes were hot 🥵😳 but pretty mild. There's a lot of chemistry between the MC's.

Cons:
The MMC has a kid, yet we barely see/hear/read much about him 🤨🤦🏼‍♀️.

I do not appreciate how they named the "problem horse" (who simply didn't want to be ridden but had a gentle demeanor besides that) "Bell The B*tch". That's really unfair towards the animal, who is in her right to have her own preferences 🤬🐎.

All the drama with Adam's wife who died was a bit too tragic imo, but ok 😩🙄.

Final thoughts:
This book was well written and is interesting if you are into cowboy romances. 🤠 Having said that, there wasn't anything that I hadn't read before, and there were too many pages for the fairly simple story 🤷‍♀️.

Happy reading! 📚

Adam Hale truly could win the award for “world’s most grumpiest cowboy”, except when it comes to his to life as a dad . And the exception is going to be changing once again now that there is a new horse trainer on the Lodestar ranch, James .

James just wants to prove her to her dad that she is worth his time but when he passed her up for the head trainer position at their family ranch, James goes to where she is actually wanted . Even if being wanted also comes with a drop dead gorgeous, grouchy as sin, cowboy . Even more so when the training is of the “Belle the Beast” and Adam doesn’t think she can do it .

I read this book in almost one complete go because it was just so good . Adam is the broodiest, swooniest cowboy around and then you have James who is so strong and knows exactly what she brings to this world . The playful banter and swoon worthy moments mixed with the slow burn of it between these two is just *chefs kiss* ! I can’t wait to read the rest of this series !

This is book one in the Lodestar Ranch series and it can be read as a complete standalone .

I stumbled upon this series on Goodreads and all I can say is, I’m glad I took the plunge. It was a cute and quick read, set at a Colorado Ranch filled with lovable supporting characters.

This was the first book in the series and if you’re in the market for grumpy/sunshine, single dad, independent FMC, grief/loss, this book is for you.

I’m excited that there are 3 more books to read before I have to pack up and leave Lodestar Ranch!

I love a good cowboy romance, and this one checked so many boxes! this was such a fun, quick read. I loved the characters, and there was some really great humor and banter.

I loved Adam SO so so so much oh my gosh😭 protect him at all costs my grumpy lil cowboy.

All of the supporting characters were great, too! Such a good start to the lodestar ranch series, and I can’t wait to see where the other books take these characters as the series continues.

Thank you to Elizabeth Bright for providing me with a digital ARC copy. Everyone check this out when it releases on May 31!!

Small-town single dad is my all-time favorite trope, I can never say no to one. But after reading quite a few of them this month, I felt burnt out and frankly sick of that trope. UNTIL this book came along, and oh boy does it manage to stand out. This book exceeded my expectations, I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed it. I love Elizabeth’s writing, it’s witty and freakin’ hilarious, it’s just the kind of humor I enjoy.

Adam the grumpy dad stole my entire heart, he’d been hurt before and thinks he doesn’t believe in love anymore. But he knows that James is special and he couldn’t let her go. I love that he didn’t go into a denial phase for too long, as that usually annoys me so much in a broken MMC. James is just a delight, she knows what she wants and goes for it, she’s definitely not a doormat or pushover, and I can’t express how much I appreciate a heroine like this.

The slow burn in this book was excruciating but oh-my did it pay off🥵 This grumpy daddy got some dirty mouth on him y’all! And the ending! Forget about misunderstanding, we don’t know her. The grand gesture at the end just sealed the deal for me, when the hero does that he’s automatically earned Top-Tier Book Boyfriend Material. I cannot rave enough about this book, if you’re a fan of a small-town single dad or grumpy/sunshine trope, you will love this. I absolutely adore this book, a MUST-READ!
