The Hunted Omegas #2

Fated to the Feral Wolf

Rate this book
I never would have seen him coming, not in a million years. Feral. Growling. Terrifying. Until my wolf claimed him as hers.

Shay

I'm a lot of things; a loyal best friend, music lover, introvert. All labels I'd happily claim are mine. Survivor of abuse, I'll claim because it's true, and I'm a survivor. But fated mate? That one feels like an ill-fitting glove. Especially when said mate has been feral for years, and nobody knows what sent him over the edge, let alone how to get him back.

But there's no denying my wolf, and she wants him. So what's a girl to do? Bathe the stinky wolf if he's going to sneak into my bed and then play him Mozart until dawn. Obviously. But a fated mate connection is a once-in-a-lifetime bond. And if he can't turn back into a man... will I be alone forever, even with him at my side?

Dirge

I've been on the run for so many years, I don't remember how to be a man, not really. But Shay calls to that part of me, the part I hid away so long ago. She's everything a man could want. Gorgeous, intelligent, and funny, all wrapped into a stunning, shyly sweet package.

There's nothing under the moon I want more than to hold her in my arms. That's the problem, though; if I give into the urge, and if I change back and take her as mine... I sign her death warrant. The fates have foretold it, and the only way I can save her is to never go back, no matter how badly it hurts. To save her, I have to stay a wolf.

Again the “I can’t be with you..” like in the previous book - only this time it isn’t “I’m dying” it is “you will die”. Same basic rain cloud that hangs over every page and makes a reader miserable and, in this case, annoyed. Then, when that gets settled, it’s “but what if..?” or “what if?” or “what if?” “Just in case, we still can’t be together”. WHICH makes Dirge (MMC) the most weak-boned, whiny-baby, male lead character in a long time. Good grief man, grow a pair and go after what you want!!!

Aside from that? I still like the world and the (other) characters, although I’m not sure if I’ll continue. The action is not as strong in this book as compared to the first, but there is enough to keep things interesting - just not near the end. At that point, the story is mainly about Shay and Dirge FINALLY figuring stuff out.

Is this book about Leigh or Brielle? I felt like Shay was a secondary character in her own book it was really frustrating, then at some point in the last chapters the author remembers that the MC have some conflict that need to be cleared. Shay finds out she's some freaking super power an Dierge is afraid of something bad to happen again but the author never developed it all was clear up in the blink of an eye if they're your MC you have to develop their conflicts and all the others are side characters.
I'm disappointed and not gonna read the next book because I can't go on reading about then hoping on a plane and finding out more endless problems.

I loved shy but strong Shay and dedicated Dirge and the progress of their relationship through adventures of their family. Now I can't wait for Leigh's story to come

Ugh these storylines have so much potential and I always love the beginning but it’s ends up losing me about 40% into the book

Second book in The Hunted Omegas. I love the sisters. The found family. Forbidden lovers trope. He falls first. Fated mates. I loved this story. The writing is actually so beautiful too. Booktok needs to pour more hype of this entire series.

SADLY, I WILL NOT BE FINISHING THIS SERIES

Several reasons why, but these are the main ones.

👎Brielle: At the end of the first book I felt like too many ends were left untied. They are a big presence in this book - too big of a presence, if you ask me. The main story is Brielle - finding out about her curse, sickness and designation - Shay and Dirge's story is just a sideplot.

👎Narration: Because of Shay and Dirge's romance only being a side plot - while they are still the narrators of the story - a lot of the chapters actually had nothing to do with them. It was just them narrating what was happening with Brielle (and, to an extent, Leigh as well...)

👎"Bestie": Again, the "bestie" thing almost gave me hives. Do people really talk like that?

👎Leigh: Honestly, Leigh just absolutely rubbed me the wrong way.

I felt like everything In this book was more telling than showing, ya know?

Like it was written but the words had no elegance in them to paint a picture. If that makes since. As well as something that is a personal ick of mine while reading is when authors think it’s funny to degrade men.

Like when a women makes a sex joke to him, or openly makes a crude crass comment that if the roles were reversed it wouldn’t be funny. It to me is very disgusting and disrespectful across the field. I personally hate these kinds of people because where’s the class.

But that’s just my personal preference, everyone is different but this book was just ehh.

book 2 complete, and guess what? still a mid tier read. completely inconsistent characterization, lack of world-building, it had it all. but i’m invested in this overarching plot line even tho once again i feel like nothing was resolved so i am forging on ahead to the next book. it has my least fav fmc but it also is accidental pregnancy so who knows maybe i’ll be into it?

Omg I absolutely loved it!

For starters, I have been in a book slump for a couple months, I haven't been able to focus on a book in what feels like forever (my fellow readers probably understand that) and this book. THIS BOOK! I read book 1 with Brielle and Kane and absolutely loved it too, but this one has become my favorite!! I loved that it was a continued storyline from Book 1, just a different couple.

Shay, she's fierce and loyal and she's an absolute survivor. Surviving a traumatic event at such a young age shaped an absolute warrior woman! She's shy and sweet, but so strong.

Dirge, the feral wolf. Hot, hot, hot! Definitely book husband material. He's sweet and completely devoted to Shay, definitely cinnamon roll vibes.

This book was spicy and emotional, full of twists and turns that I was just not expecting. And it kept me completely sucked in, I finished this book in a day. The plot was full and engaging, it answered questions from Book 1 and raised more questions I look forward to having answered in the next one. I definitely definitely recommend you read this book if you like paranormal wolf shifter romances!

Better than the first but I just feel like something is missing…

I actually enjoyed this one more than the first. I do understand that with most shifter books you’re going to get insta-love but the first book took it to a whole new level. It went from “she can’t be my mate, I don’t want one, she’s weak” to “I love you, I would k*|| myself if you died” in the span of two pages. This one felt more organic but again something about this series is just so incredibly juvenile. The good thing is that they’re so quick to read that I don’t mind wasting a few hours to finish them all. I’ve read these first two in about 5hrs. Even though they’re not the best I will say they make you want to know what’s going to happen next.

3.5-4*

I was even more engaged with this book than I was with the first one. Not sure if it was the epilogue cliffhanger from the first installment, but I was all in for this one. Almost gave up sleep just so I could read more and that’s how I know that a book is good. It still had a small wattpad feeling, but in a totally good way. I was even more in love with the ideas behind the world building.
The main couple was somehow more awesome than the first one. I love when the heroines are amazingly kickassing fighters, that defend themselves and their friends. It was also awesome to see her come out of her shell and learn how to stand up for what she wanted. The hero was clearly troubled but I could totally understand where he was coming from, my heart ached for him the entire time. Honestly, they were an incredible couple together and deserved to finally get their happiness.
This series is turning out to be a lot better than I expected and it was a very nice surprise. The writing is smooth and easy to read, letting you get comfortable with the story. I’m in love with the different world building and how it’s being shown. Yes, I wish we had more answers faster, but it’s also interesting to learn with the characters. I’m looking forward to continuing to the next installment.

I really need to check that all books in a series are out before devouring the first 2 to realise the 3rd isn't out for another 6 weeks. Oops.

I've absolutely loved both these stories so far, and I have a feeling the 3rd one will be my favourite.

The way April writes is addictive, the stories focus on the main character for the book, but you also get to continue the stories of all the other characters. I cannot wait to find out more about Shays Fae heritage and the meaning behind the coin. I also cannot wait to learn more about Brielle being an omega and what that will mean for the world.

Yeah, I was SO excited for this audiobook to come out, and then when it did come out I IMMEDIATELY bought it and stayed excited…. For about a day and then I was randomly hit with a CRAVING for a different trope and my interest in this book quickly faded away, which is NOT fair, because I definitely would have loved this one more if I was in the right mood to enjoy it. For the mood I was in for the second half of the book, I’ve left it at 3 ✨.

Also, the male narrator’s female voices are TRULY atrocious 😂.

I was loving this book until around 50% in, it just became abit all over the place. I don’t mind reading interconnected standalones without reading previous books as I find I can pick up things fairly quickly that I may not know about, other side characters and small plot points ect however it just felt that the main characters in this book and their romance just wasn’t the main priority.

Okay this series isn’t mind blowing but also I can’t stop. Could the writing be better? Possibly. Could the story be less cheesy? Also probably. But do I want to read the next book? Absolutely. Full of touch her and die through and through and I can’t be mad at that.

“Isn’t it the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen?” she asked, eyes glowing with excitement as she pointed to the crystalline ceiling. I had to chuckle at that. “Not by half, muzică mea.” “Oh, I—” She seemed disappointed, but I stopped her with a finger to her lips. “A pretty rock pales in comparison to the true beauty standing right in front of me.”

I read book 1 as an ARC and I loved it. I didn't realize book 2 was already out and as soon as I came across it I immediately downloaded it. This book is just as good as book 1. I love that with this series she continues the story on the same timeline. Like with most series where there are different main characters for each book, each couple fixes their problem before the new characters' book starts with their problem they have to solve, but this series it looks like the group deals with their problems together and they are all seeking answers for their individual issues but you get new POVs from the new set of main characters if that makes sense? Like they all have their own issues to deal with the big issues are a pack issue and not just the individuals. I really can't wait for the next book to come out.

Not much better than the first, but not the worst.
What? I seem to find a little bit problematic in this PNR. Romance is all of the loose ends that show up in the storytelling. There are a lot of familiar concepts that shifter romance readers will recognize, yet the way they work within the context of this world is not shown. For example, what's the difference between shifter magic and witch magic??
How do you turn rogue??
What are the significance of mate marks and how do they appear?
There seems to be no distinct way of recognizing one's mate which becomes quite confusing as the series goes on and it creates a little bit of a gap within the overall rules of the world. There also seems to be too many convenient hindrances specifically to werewolf shifters within the novel.
So there's an organization that only targets werewolf, omegas and werewolves have no part in their government yet. They're supposed to be seeing on the same level as other species in this world. I'm not sure how that makes sense.
The relationship in this book was another insta love which I absolutely despise. There was no chemistry, no character development or progression and the underlying fear or negative thinking between the character just seems to vanish from one day to the next without any real effort or work being done. Which if that's going to be the case then is it really a problem??
There was also a strange dichotomy of our fmc in this book where in the first book she barely speaks is relatively inside herself and presents a whole other frame of characteristics that denote a being battered and terrified woman. Yet in this book she seems to be the very opposite. It's like she had a personality transplant and it's not believable. I could understand in moments of crisis leaning more into her wolf and thus becoming more aggressive and combative but to have that be the foundation of a personality after she was presented as someone completely different is jarring and lacks a lot of differentiation between the main character characters. This kind of eclipsing character changes also seen in the FMC from the first book where she feels like a completely different person.
The character who really kept this book in line was Dirge. He was a little bit brash a little bit bold and had a very definitive personality that seems to remain consistent if nothing else.
Unfortunately, this book brought the series down a rating level because of its inconsistencies and plot holes in the world building.

I don’t really know how I feel about this book. On the one hand I enjoyed being back in this world and learning more about Bri’s powers and stuff. But then on the other hand I wasn’t fully invested in the story.

What I like about this series is that you get to see the other characters heavily. Which I love. So in a sense this series feels like the main plot is figuring out about Bri but through the eyes of our main couples in that specific book. And that isn’t bad but I think it’s the pacing that takes me out of the story.

In the beginning we had a nice build up but then from one second to the next it jumps to spice. I feel like we aren’t getting an emotional connection between the characters. We don’t really get to know them at all. And in all INAPPROPRIATE times, Shay specifically, is just thinking about sex. It’s only after sex that maybe they can be in each other’s presence and just talk, but even then it’s not long.

I mean I loved Shay and adored Dirge. He’s my favourite so far. But I just want to get to know the characters more because I enjoy them so much. It’s only surface level. And even Shay’s past was barely spoken about. I want more. Also less insta love.

There also wasn’t that much action in this book which I missed. There also wasn’t really a climax near the end to keep us on our toes like the previous book did with the Mating Challenge and Shay meeting feral Dirge. We needed something dramatic to shock us or entertain us.

I am so fascinated by the storyline through this whole series and I’m really enjoying it, I just want more emotional connection between me and the characters and themselves. Also having group outings could be fun. Because I know this is found family but I’m not really feeling it.

I’m excited for Leigh’s book, I think she is a hilarious character, and hopefully it’s more of a slow burn?

I still enjoyed this book and the world is really fascinating and I do still recommend I just want more from the characters and pacing.

Shay is a ferocious wolf but a quiet woman. Two conflicting sides to the same coin. She meets her fated mate at her best friend's mating ceremony celebration. Then there’s Dirge who is believed to be a feral wolf as he's been in his wolf skin for far too long. To fight for love, for what stand for is the right thing in order to perfect something so blessed as a mate bond. Beautiful. I really have enjoyed how the first book effortless flows right into this book. So whatever questions that weren’t answered were here.

I liked this one more than the first! And I think it’s super interesting how they’re continuing the main plot from book 1 but still changing POVs. I feel like these kinds of books typically do either the same couple for a trilogy or switch couples each book but finish the plot thread for each. I’m excited for book 3!

I truly enjoyed this, and there were some clear and easily seen improvements over B1, which is necessary to read first!!

The story, plot, and romance, were more fully intwined as a whole, with each unfolding together.
However, some of the voices were blending together at times.
Our leading lady was sounding more and more like the previous, down to her need to hide from violence, despite her previous established traits, and also her love of coffee increasing to match, and it’s flavour.

Still utterly enjoyable and likeable, just also greatly liked who she was previously.

Leigh is still my fav, despite my inability to truly relate, 😂 we should all be blessed with a bestie like her 😍

The dialogue, one liners, humour, and conversations flowed so well, were so enjoyable, I sooo wished we would get out of theirs heads some more, and get more of that interaction.

Okay, so here it goes, we need so much more show, and so much less tell.
It dragged down the pace, and filled the pages with skippable waffle.
Our MMC was an awesome cinnamon roll hero, who bit by bit, turned into the previous one, who also talked too much.

Familiarity breeds contempt.
When someone tells you something powerful, beautiful, generous, it hits hard, true, and lasting.
When they do so every day, it’s nice, it’s sweet, it’s … less.

There was so much more description here which was awesome. Except for that it was mostly presented as a tell.
Little interaction with it, grounding the reader in that world. Little to no colour, taste, feel, or smell, other than the partner.

Expand the world, immerse us in it!

The author needs to plan her personal conflict some more. At times it felt a little too dramatic, too contrived, with simple logic and reasoning ignored in order to continue.
I’ve no doubt whatsoever that they can do better, if they slow down and stretch the idea out some more, rather than repeating and circling something already seemingly dealt with. It’s like in the old horrors, where the villain never dies, but miraculously, ridiculously, keeps rising… 😂

This one had a sharper, more abrupt ending.
While the mains romance was concluded, it felt like that was all that was. This one felt incomplete, more like a part 1… part 2 still to come.

Regardless, I not only enjoyed this, I want to read the next, and am excited to see what new improvements have been made, and where the story takes us. This author is one not afraid to grow, and challenge themselves.
I love their version of Omega, now she just needs to incorporate the Sigma 😬😍

I’m excited and nervous to read Leigh’s story.

Side note, it’s definitely worth reading the extra bits after the main story.
