This is the book that coined the phrase "mythos over logos". It is dense as all German thought but if you can penetrate it it will absolutely change the way you perceive your own mind and the minds of others. Mythos over Logos is sometimes framed as mythos vs. logos. This is absolutely wrong. It could be more accurately called mythos inevitably precedes logos. Mythos is often misunderstood as just myths or legends that accumulate in the collective consciousness. In fact it is much broader than that. Everything from historical events to cultural icons can take residence in the mythos and inform our logical thinking. This philosophy drives logical purists crazy, but it's inescapable. It will provide you with the invaluable opportunity to re-evaluate your own thought proccesses. A perfect contemporary example of the danger in not recognizing the validity of mythos over logos is the traditional scientific paradigm. Another very useful exercise after reading this book is to evaluate the analyses of self-proclaimed skeptics.
I don't how hard this book is to obtain in translation. My high school history teacher gave me photocopied translations of the sections he deemed most essential.
Heidegger and Schelling expressed related ideas to this theory, which has definitely continued to evolve. The final irony is that people often perceive this theory as deriding the value of logic, but it actually allows you to conduct more thorough analyses.
