Part 1 THE FIRST DAYS IN COLLEGE Sam worked so hard to get a chance to go to Boston Film Academy but never in his darkest nightmares could he imagine that he would hate it there from day one. Part 2 CHRISTMAS WITH MITCH One thing that Mitch dreaded the most was coming out to his family but now he is being forced to do it because his mother is relentless trying to set him up on a date with a nice girl, just one date, or maybe two, or a dozen; and that is driving him crazy. Part 3 SUCH A GROWN-UP Coming Fall 2015
3 Stars I had a very difficult time warming up to this MC, Sam Dorsey. True, I didn't have the back story since this is the first novella in the series that I read. He seemed rather self-absorbed, but then aren't most 18 year olds?
What kept me going and allowed me to enjoy the story to the point where Sam redeemed himself was Joel Leslie and his spectacular narration. (Note that this is no longer available because the author tried to screw JL out of $ and published the audiobook with "Joey" Leslie as the narrator--I received it free in a give-away from the author).
Yeah nope. This book sticks with my feelings on the last one. I pretty much don't like Sam much anymore. His neediness to have a boyfriend and inability to stop thinking about another guy when he's supposedly made his choice just drove me batty. I hate love triangles and this one feels ridiculously over forced. It probably won't happen quickly as I'm just not enjoying this series much at all, but I'll probably still finish it. If the next book wasn't the last and wasn't as short as these novellas are I probably wouldn't bother. But it'll be a quick enough read I can get closure on finishing this series while not having to suffer needlessly for too long.
I hated the first half of this book. All those dreams were getting to my nerves! And the way it ended was so lame.. It was a terrible plot.
The second half was much better. It actually reminded me of the first book, which I loved so much. It's nice to finally see Sam making some good decisions.
The last sentence of the book is "And hopefully I'm done with all the drama". Yes. Please be done with it. Because I am.
Books 3.1 (First Days In College) and 3.2 (Christmas with Mitch) were vast improvements over Book 2 (Dirty Dancing), but they are still tainted by the legacy of their prequel. 3.1 earns 3/5 stars due to Sam's lack of true character development. 3.2 earns 5/5 stars, surpassing even Book 1 (Sixteen Candles), due to more rounded portrayals and complex storylines. 3.1 would have been better if the Sam's mistakes in Book 2 were adequately acknowledged rather than rationalized. Overall, Book 3 somehow got me looking forward to Book 4 coming out this year after a disasterous Book 2.
There's definitely a love triangle do Sam, Mitch and Jake. Well, maybe not a triangle but Sam loves both of them and they both love Sam. Bathroom crying and Christmas "entertain" us this time around. 3.3 for Christmas jumpers.
My Rating: 4 of 4 Stars (Short&Light Read Category)
This is the book we have all been waiting for. You know, the fans of Sam Dorsey? The young man torn between two men, Mitch and Jake? The same young man we saw celebrating his sixteenth birthday and dirty dancing? Well, he's back and we fans are getting a glimpse of a whole lot of changes. Best news is, there are two stories happening back to back so we get two for a price of one.
In The First Days of College, Sam gets back in the closet. But first, we see Sam finally getting his courage up and getting to college in the same school he and Mitch planned they would both go to. Thing is, when Mitch went up there ahead, being older, Sam's dream boy, Jake, came into the picture and well, Mitch was hurt. A whole lot and Sam is guilty. A whole lot. He hates it of course, college and his closet, but he admits he was in the wrong and so does his darnedest to make it up to Mitch.
Then Christmas With Mitch opens and, although I should say no spoilers, we do get the idea that Sam and Mitch had made up. The only problem is that Jake may be back and Mitch's parents insist he go out with a girl. This places Sam in a dilemma and he is angry, sad, miserable, angry and then there is Jake. Oh what a sorry tale it is indeed for Sam.
Fortunately, there is a happy ending, that is the only spoiler I am willing to tell, and we smile happy. Overall, this may not be the perfect follow up to the story of Sam and his misadventures with two handsome young men, but it is the perfect story because it is about Sam and his misadventures. He is growing up, ladies and gents, so life can be cruel and people can be as well. Sam makes it through, another spoiler, but we won't really know everything until he grows up, sometime in Fall according to Perie so we have to wait and see.
Meh, I still don't like Sam. I can't believe Mitch took him back, and Jake is pathetic (as is Sam for entertaining taking *him* back). I mostly read this bc it was still sitting on my Kindle, because I really can't root for any of these characters anymore.

Like the first-two books, I really liked this one. It's full of humor and we get attached to the characters quickly. However, there were some elements that came too easily in the story, the background was not developped enough, and the whole story is too short (two parts, 107 pages in all). I'm looking forward to reading the next one!
This book,as well as the previous ones remind me of all the angst of life and love. Being gay in a small town was not easy. Sam has had 2 hot guys after him, made his mistake, suffered and..........well, you will have to read the books too see what happens!! They are well worth the time!!
I really just skimmed through the first part. I got tired of the repetitive dream. If you read it then you will know what I am talking about. The second story was more interesting and I was a little surprised by the ending because Sam usually gets everything and acts very selfishly.
