I had forgotten about this series, but enjoy the folksy Nebraska ranch life. In a previous book in this series Kate’s husband was the Sheriff but was caught in a long term affair. Kate divorced him and ran against him for sheriff and won. These are all adventures derived from Kate winning the sheriff’s race.

As always, I enjoy the Kate Fox series, and especially the narrator for this series. I am usually surprised at the end of each book, as to who dunnit...or similar ending. This one did not disappoint.
Kate is still finding her way in the world, and helping her father figure things out as well since Kate's mother up and left with an old fling, and "spoiler alert" Kate's biological father. But her dad Hank, has started sewing some wild oats, which has the majority of the Fox children, all adults, in an uproar. And many blame Kate for their mother's leaving, and the breaking up of the family. Add to that, she is constantly battling her ex mother-in-law, to keep her job as the county sheriff. This time, Dalia is committing small acts of theft, to try to discredit Kate as sheriff so her son, Kate's ex-husband, can get the job back. And add to that a real crime, Kate has her hands full.

I always look forward to keeping up the Kate Fox Series. In #7 we are back in Sandhills, Nebraska! Kate Fox and family are still in the aftermath of some family changes. As the story progresses Kate begins to question if she really wants to continue being sheriff or do what she loves , cattle ranching.
We get a closer look at brothers Newt and Earl, both known for being pickers and not so hygienic. We learn about their past, some misjudgments, and see the softer side of them.
Per usual Sheriff Kate Fox is being run amuck putting out fires and trying to crack the current crisis with Poupon in tow.
I gave this ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. The author’s use of figurative language always gives me a little giggle. I think this series has a strong group of characters no matter how small their appearance is in the book. I feel like I was right in the center of each scene! Love these books!!!

Oh the drama! Kate just can’t catch a break! She’s being bombarded by one thing after another with no time to resolve one issue before another one pops up. Her ex mother-in-law is badmouthing Kate’s performance as sheriff all over town, there is a slew of petty crimes and a woman with a questionable history of mental illness has returned to town. As if those things impacting her job as sheriff aren’t enough, there’s even more Fox family drama with Kate once again caught in the middle and dealing with a family divided. The teaser at the end sets things up for even more drama! I can’t wait to see how that turns out!

What do you get when you combine long lost love, a family fractured, a psychopath intent on going out in a blaze of glory? The 7th Kate Fox story is what you get. I have enjoyed each of the previous Kate Fox episodes, but Double Back brings the Fox family into clear focus and tests Kate’s resolve in solving a crime wave while she attempts to protect the Johnson brothers. Double Back is my favorite of the Kate Fox books. I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book from the publisher and chose to provide this review.

Sheriff Kate Fox is feeling the aftermath of her mother’s double life and escape, from some her siblings and the town. Her dad is becoming to talk of the town, and somehow her siblings feel it is her responsibility to talk sense to him. A slew of unexplained problems is keeping Kate all over the county, and to top it off Newt and Early, the Vietnam twins, are fighting. Kate is pretty sure she knows who is behind the unexplained problems, but will it keep her from helping the twins resolve the issue before it is too late.

Book #7 of the Kate Fox Series!
Double Back is book #7 of the Kate Fox series! I have enjoyed every book so far and this one did not disappoint! Kate finds herself with a slew of petty crimes all over her county & starts wondering what is going on. As the county sheriff she struggles to keep up with the sudden spike in crimes, but somehow she is able to manage it all. This is a fast paced storyline that keeps you guessing and keeps you reading! Kate Fox is a hot mess that will keep you entertained along with the Fox family shenanigans! I can’t wait to read book #8!

This series is refreshingly different. Kate Fox is not the typical Sheriff who is a former Army Ranger, sharpshooter and Karate expert. Just a woman from a big family ina small midwestern town trying to find out what she wants and where she belongs. The relationships are the story not the local crimes she has to solve. I have enjoyed them all. I thought in book 6 the reference to the 60's and the war protesters was right on. There were fanatics who took to violence. I know because I was there (no violence peace ful protests only! Enjoying book 8 now.

Metaphors.
It isn't often that I would comment on the literary aspect of a generally pedestrian genre. But the metaphors that are generously and so seamlessly into the body of the work begs notice. Especially since they are so common, yet so uniquely fitted to the Sand hills work of rugged Nebraska ranchers. I suspect she created a few of her own, but I also suspect she caught them with spoken with her poetic year. While this book is worth the read for those metaphors alone, the bonus is that that are woven into a damn good story. Full of Shannon Baker wit and charm.

As Kate digs deeper, she finds some shocking revelations. A gripping thriller with a surprising ending. The author aptly portrays the psyche of a manipulative and vicious killer and Kate's courage in handling a dangerous situation.

these 7 books are addicting…
Started this series not quite sure if I would like them… the storyline is different different from most others I have liked.
However… they did catch my interest… and I read all 7 of them… I’m anxiously awaiting the 8th!
One sheriff in each of four counties in rural Nebraska… LOTS of land to cover with LOTS of twists and turns… I had trouble putting these down! I hope you enjoy these as much as I did!

I wanna reach out and touch Louise around her neck. I am getting sick and tired of family taking their angst out against Kate when all she is trying to do is help. As far as Ted is concerned, he doesn't deserve to be sheriff of anything other than his home since he can't manage to complete a task. As far as Roxy's mom is concerned she I hope someone injuries her property or for ger to get into some kind of trouble. I wonder if she would suck it up and go to Katr or rely on her incompetent son.

Again, Baker’s eloquent descriptives coupled with practical characters who remind us all of someone we know as we follow a story that goes far to quickly. And not another story until January 2024, after that cliffhanger? It’s already in my calendar so I won’t miss it the day it drops.

Double Back
I have read previous Kate Fox books and enjoyed them but this one i nearly didn’t bother finishing.
The first half was boring and Kate letting civilians override her to go on calls was unbelievable.
For goodness sakes write her with some backbone.
The Ramonas was just too confusing to follow.

Getting better and better
I've read 7 books now and can't wait to start #8 even though it's late but took the time for this. I like books with likeable characters. I love the Fox family even if they are a train wreck most of the time. These are a great light read, the story lines are intriguing. Get caught up in this family.

Kate had her hands full in this book.
There is so much for Kate to stay on top of. Stolen items from homes and the golf course. A person from the past of the brothers Johnson. Family blaming her for things that happened that were beyond her control. It's a most read to see the family and county dynamics, but to see how Kate handles it all.

Kate has family issues to deal with since her mother ran off with her lover, leaving her dad and siblings reeling. Being Sherif is getting more complicated as Kate's ex-mother-in-law is stirring up trouble to try and show that Kate is incompetent. Woven in is the mystery of a woman returning to town who seems to have dementia. Another win for the Kate Fox series.

Toward the end of the story, the brothers rescued her and prevented the Ford Mustang from falling down a cliff during a dangerous storm. I am anxious to read the next Katie Fox book!

A fun and easy read. The quotes the writer uses, interjecting comments during her stories makes for

Not up to her past performances
I can't honestly review This entire book because I couldn't get past the 72nd page due to all the folksy metaphors and down-home attempts at humor.
I liked her stories better when there was more story and less clutter.

Another winner
The seventh book in Shannon Baker's Sheriff Kate Fox series is as action packed and fast paced as the last book! Family drama never ends with the Fox family ,or her ex MIL. Kate juggles them while she chases down thieves, and Earl/Newt are in trouble up to their necks. An exciting read.

Being a Sheriff in a small town had Kate thinking of peace and quiet. Not so. When she investigates an older woman living with her brothers, things happen that are dangerous. Fast paced, suspenseful.

Double Back has a good plot and, as always, is beautifully written. However, there are too many descriptions of places and feelings and less action, and too much family drama. But provides good entertainment for a few hours.

I liked the story but it was not my favorite book in this series. I felt it just dragged on and on. I really like this series and I hope Baxter is brought back. I'm sorry I have to wait so long for the next book.

good story
I’m a little tired of this wimpy heroine. Hard to believe she can chase murderers but has no backbone. Set her loose and let her hold her own for once. I read for the other characters not Kate.

Turmoil
Kate' s life is a mess. Her dad is staying with her and acting like a teen aged boy. Numerous small crimes are popping up all over the county. Her family is split apart after Kate's involvement in finding out about their mother's past.
