Antecedents' Legacy #3

Terran Tactics: Antecedents' Legacy, Book 3

Rate this book
MX Hub had proven to have challenges that Zander hadn't anticipated.

Accidentally getting tagged by a rogue element, he thwarted corporate espionage at Maverick Mecha Manufacturing. Lavella Hemoesta, the owner of Maverick, met with him to work out a deal so her company wouldn't be given bad press. That meeting changed the future for both Lavella and Zander.

After a few false starts, including a multiple homicide in a hedge maze, the pair finally found time for intimate fun. Zander flipped the script on Lavella, making the Vampire prey instead of the predator, firmly setting their budding relationship in stone. After the whirlwind sex, Zander proposed a crazy idea that set the stage for something unseen by galactic a mecha tournament.

During the tournament, Zander led his team to victory using his training as a military contractor. In doing so, he flouted the training left by the Antecedents, but his squad won handily every time. Some of the losing squads took it badly, but none as badly as Smaztil Hammish, the lead pilot of Proud Axe. When the Dwarven pilots lost, they physically attacked Zander's at the end of the tournament.

With the tournament over and a party waiting, the crew stopped only long enough to try collecting their bets. The organized crime group who'd taken the bet refused to pay up. Instead of a bloody confrontation, Zander just forwarded the video evidence to the magistrates and they left the gang behind.

What would come from Zander's flagrant disregard of the Antecedents' training? Would the criminal organization take umbrage at being called out? Only time will tell…

Excellent as always!

I love reading zander’s adventures, there’s a hell of a mix of madcap violence, strategy and cunning, with a dash of kinky that just always cheers me up!

I love a good shoot-em-up

Zander and crew start fighting the bugs.

It’s glorious.

They also dealt with the dude that welshed on their bet.

You know what you're getting

A very typical Schinhofen book, so if you like his harem-lit style you'll like this. I find it a bit annoying how ignorant the aliens are made out to be, it's not that the MC is a genius he just does things they've never thought of. "Wow, in the thousands of years we've been using these weapons we've never thought of the configuration you just suggested!"

I have read almost all of this author's books. Some books of his I did not care for such as the Alpha World and Apocolypse Gates series, but most have been quite good.

This series, I will admit that I started reading more to support the author than an interest in the books themselves. I feared this series would be too gamish (my main problem with the other books he has written, as I am too damn old for video games and do not see the attraction of them) which so far it has not been.

This book continues where the previous book left off. One thing this author does frequently with his series is have the time between books either mere hours, or even a few days pass between them.

I do like the unusual and creative twist with the traditional Western (even some Asian) mythical creatures in a Science Fiction setting. So maybe these books are Science Fantasy? Is that even a genre?

One thing I dislike about this series and this book in particular - the lack of orbital bombardment and the lack of nuclear weapons. From what little we have learned of the Antecedents, it seems that they purposely set up those that came later to die. If those able to pilot mechs are so rare, why ensure that many will die? Wasting resources (pilots, mechs, weapons, etc.) does not strike me as something an advanced, technology superior race would do without good reasons.

I can see the "we've always done it that way" mentality, as I saw it frequently during my military career. Maybe the author intends that stupidity to be something that Badger fights against. The toxic culture of not being open to new ideas is still prevalent in the military. History teaches us that those that fail to learn from history are determined to repeat it.

I would love to see BDRs (Big Dumb Rocks - i.e. an asteroid) and other orbital bombardment in future books. I would also like to see nukes enter the battlefield (see Starship Troopers, the book not the horrible movies) as their exclusion seems stupid to me with how many life-bearing worlds that are available. Drop a few advanced "clean" nukes on the bugs, and clean up gets much easier.

Not bad, I recommend it

I'm a fan of the authors and their works. I wasn't really sure what all to expect when I started this series. There were a couple of parts in the first book that I absolutely positively hated. Typically I would have moved on to another series, but I view this authored as one of the tried and true so I came back for the sequel. I quite enjoyed the sequel though the series is still more a middle of the road story in comparison to his other works so far as I'm concerned. One of my favorites of this gentleman author started out in a similar position when it comes to my personal preferences. It's safe to say that I will be returning for a fourth book. I'm also looking forward to this book receiving the audio treatment. In short our cast of characters finish up on the Hub and head out for their first real action against the enemy. By the time we get to the end of the book our cast the characters is heading back victoriously and there's the foreseeable question of what the powers of B will do when faced with the effectiveness of our main characters unorthodox and possibly heretical tactics.

Too short!

With how long I waited for the next installment and how quickly I read through said installment, the story was entirely too short!

I enjoyed this book because it was a good mix of slice of life, world building, and action. I was a little worried the slice of life was going a little long, and then the action came. And the action was fantastic. I appreciate that we don't hear about every round fired and every enemy downed; just an intro and an aftermath. It works out very well for the scope of the battles the author has created.

The groundwork is laid for what happens next and I'm looking very forward to it.

This book reminds me of another series by the author. Besides the minor head nods that have been seen in most of his work, there were some more heavy influences from the Binding Words series. While I really enjoyed that series, I hope this series doesn't turn into a Sci-Fi version of that.

Simply Built Different

After having binged this entire series in a single night instead of being productive, I can confidently say that Daniel Schinhofen is Simply Built Different compared to the other authors in the HaremLit genre. The characters are more varied with greater depth. The setting is surprisingly open-minded, with less adherence to Western gender/sexuality norms (the line about cheating being more acceptable than polygamy struck hard). And all in all, I just feel better reading this. I don’t like to leave reviews on most things but this really deserves it. If you like this genre, you should try this series out, as well as the rest of his stories.

Thanks for the great read, Mr. Schinhofen. I wish I could say that I’m going to pass out now, given it’s 4:30 am, but unfortunately I have work that I have delayed for too long. So thanks for giving me something to chew on.

Brilliant

Another brilliant instalment in the internet's legacy series. My only complaint is this book ended too soon and the wait till the next one. Loved badgers development and looking forward to what harkens next. I started out with last horizon all those years ago (which is still a great read) then alpha world toke my favourite spot, then got into binding world and apocalypse gate, now Jim suck with three favourite series with lucks voice, this series and aethers revival as some of my top series to read. You can see how well you've progressed as an author and any new release by you had me doing what I'm reading even when part way through so i can re-read the earlier books before starting the new one. Keep them coming.

Another very strong offering by the author in this space faring tale of a Earth our timeline mercenary that is transported into an alternate universe that is more futuristic than ours. The subplots of the book and series are all common tropes to the author, so nothing really new, just different names.

The MC is the classic Schinhofen type: Takes no bullshit, can't stand "Skippy", and takes on what is thrust is his way. He's in no rush when it comes to new harem members.

There is one new woman added to the harem, and it's well done. There is another one or two queued up, and the table's being set for them to come join when they are ready. It works well.

This is one of the better space faring series, and I can't wait for the sequel.

Really good!

Fun, adventurous and action packed, it's a real page turner that's hard to stop once you start.
And as in any Schinhofen novel, plenty of escapade and brilliant relationship development with friends, allies and even deeper connections with Zanders lovers.

It's really fun to read about this vast universe and all these races and culture... And apart from the disastrous first arrival, the second time going face to face with love bugs rather than a simulation.
But that encounter will be for you readers to enjoy!

Worth the buy and will be looking forward to the next book!

Gotta say, mecha, bugs, fabled beings, fun, and adult shenanigans...

..they all blend to make a good mix.

The MC is a little rebellious to stupid authority, which I can understand.

The characters are fun. And the different mecha types & potential builds might benefit from some crunchiness, but all is good so far.

I like that he builds camraderie amongst multiple other groups.

The Spork Cult is a cute twist. I use them but dislike them as he does. I wonder how far this aspect will be taken? Time will tell.

I do wonder the author will resolve the issue of Zander & Captain V.

Looking forward to more.

Badger and crew finally get to take on some bugs outside of training. After some plot threads get finished up on MX Hub. The Assembly ends up putting out an emergency call for multiple incursions and every pilot on MX Hub gets sent out. Since Dreams is undergoing upgrades, it cannot go itself, so Zander and the others are sent out on a bigger ship to fill out their fingers. We get to see Zander's tactics in play. Also more types of bugs and what some of them can do.

We do get some setup for the next volume. Which I am looking forward to.

After the beginning of the first book I was hoping for an interesting story of Zander coming to terms with his new situation and his battles with the ‘Entoma’ worms and bugs, plus a range of interesting technology and tactics.

However a big chunk of the three books has been a cross between a poor soap opera and a weird soft porn novel. In fact since chapter two of the first book, there were well over a thousand pages before there is any real combat against the ‘Entoma’.

The last part of this book was much better, although I think the author took too many liberties with the ‘Entoma’.

Like Good Whiskey

This one is smooth, with a bite to get your attention. Picking up from the end of the previous, we see plans get enacted, violence be instigated, and mecha fighting giant bugs.
I found the pacing, dialogue, and action to be interesting, evocative, and concise; Schinhofen has learned how to give necessary details and let the reader's mind add the flourishes. I am looking forward to the next one.

Satisfying sequel

Alternate universe, SF advanced tech, save the galaxy, alien races, adult situations

All the training demonstrated during the tournament to devastating success gets field testing. Plenty of action. Selda again proves her worth, and Badger does what he does best. Obviously, there will at least be a book 4, but there's potential for more. As the meme says, "Moah, plz!" Excellent editing. Enjoyed.

Excellent blend of science fiction and fantasy!

Daniel Schinhofen can't seem to write a bad story. The worst thing about this book is that now I have to wait months for the next one!
His characters continue to be interesting and distinct. His MC is without prejudice against anyone due to their race or gender.
The plot is well designed and flows fluidly. I really can't wait for the next installment.

Excellent story

Well written tale. Full rollercoaster of a story. You experienced the ups and downs emotionally, the characters are real and become friends. You cheer for them and cry with them. Yes and scream no at times. Truly a gifted author, I look forward to seeing where this leads.

It feels odd...

... but this series has become my favorite to read and, if you will, 'live' in. Most books I read, I see as mental movies but not consistently. Most of Mr. Schinhofen's I get dumped right into it. I see the Entoman, I experience the battles. That makes a book of the top shelf for me. Thank you for the experience, Sir!

So so good

I've read literally every book Daniel Schinhofen has published on Kindle. I'm a huge fan for a reason.

This third addition to this series may be the best so far. I love all his series, but this one is a special favorite; this is an amazing book.

I cannot recommend it enough.

Outstanding as always

I wasn't sure how much I would like this series. An almost pure sci fi style isn't what I've been into for awhile now. I read it because we'll it's Schinhofen, and so far no matter how out of my usual reading style he goes his writing always gets me over my hesitation and I end up loving the series. I very much look forward to the next book in the series.

I liked it, but it didn't grab me as much as the first book. I like that we didn't get the details of most of the sexual liasons that went on here, but I found the pacing off. Or something. For whatever reason this was just not a 5 in my reading experience, but lots of other people (likely the author's hardcore fans) feel differently, so YMMV.

Nice continuation to the series.

This was an all around great book and a good continuation to the series. I don’t think it’s as good as his other series and not the biggest fan of the cocky MC womanizer but I know a lot of people prefer that so I can’t rock points for preference. Otherwise the characters and interactions and writing are well done.

Absolutely love this series

So not sure what initially caused me to pass on this series, but am so glad that I came back to it. Loved it to the point that ideas all 3 books in 3 days. Once I started I couldn’t put it down. Might be my favorite series from an author who makes incredible books.

Daniel S. has a number of series he keeps

Updating by writing new novels to up the body, er, book count.

Although the series usually have various elements in common, they are NOT the same in tone or feel.

For anyone on Kindle, especially anyone on Kindle Unlimited, Schinhofen us an Author/Writer well worth adding to your "Following" list.

Terrific story

Zander has finally fought the Entoma
! In a mech. This is a great continuation of the story, the evolution of Zander and how he is starting to accept the relationships with his ladies is great to see.

This is the best book out of the series so far. From the time I bought it to the time I finished. It was hard to put it down. It has some what of a slow start, but boy oh boy there is a lot happening in this book. It is must read. I cannot wait for the next book in the series.

dang another epic book

I love this series. It’s a twist on his writing style that does not focus hardcore on feelings. The action and drama are great! The core ideas are fun and he does a great job building on them to pull you into the story. Can’t wait for book 4!
