Krystal is a famous singer turned fugitive ex-wife charged with kidnapping. Morgan is the superstar in love with her and desperate to bring her back to safety. Devon is the reporter sent to deliver the message.
Escaping an abusive ex-husband and a custody case that had turned into nothing more than a media circus, Krystal builds a new life in the small town of Coos Bay, Oregon. To protect her daughter from her deranged ex, she constructs an identity far removed from the once glitzy existence she shared with her fiancé Morgan.
Teaching music to children and living in a modest dwelling in nearly total isolation proves the perfect cover against discovery. Krystal feels safe after hiding successfully for two years, but she is unprepared when a new complication threatens her artfully constructed identity: the arrival of Devon Howard.
Is there more to Devon’s tale about his relocation to Oregon to finish his novel? Is her neighbor really harmless? And can Krystal keep herself safe from the powerful attraction she feels for Devon? Does love and the truth conquer all?
Award-Winning author Susan Ward is a #1 bestselling author of Rock Star Romance and New Adult Fiction. Known for complex, gritty, and unpredictable emotional reads, to the delight of her readers she is always expanding her fictional universe.
She likes her romance books to be packed with exciting heroes who keep you guessing, and intelligent, complicated heroines who make them work to get them. Her stories are filled with twists you won't see coming, both laughter and tears, and her Happy Endings are never cookie-cutter, but always deliciously satisfying.
She lives in California with her husband and dog Lady. Her favorite things to do are writing an angsty HEA love story, drinking coffee, eating chocolate, having a good glass of wine, traveling, binge watching TV series once the episodes are fully released, and chatting with her readers.
What a wonderful story. Once again, Susan Ward has worked her way into my heart with her writing. This is not the type of book to rush through. I wanted to savor it and let it lead me through the gamut of emotions that it evoked.
One can’t help but be sympathetic to the plight of, Krystal Stafford. She is a smart, strong character running from an abusive past and trying to protect her daughter. She serves as an apt representation of what it’s like to be a woman on the run. Ward skillfully reveals the turmoil Krystal faces in her decision to allow herself to love, but it’s hardly a fair decision for her—who could resist the likes of Devon Howard? Beautiful, intelligent, and supremely patient—he is more than desirable.
I certainly wouldn’t call this book a light read. If you’re looking for a novel to get lost in, to feel all of the emotions that come with complicated yet passionate love, and to have your faith restored that happy endings can come after devastation, this is the book for you.
So, lets just say this - Susan Ward has a way with rockstar stories and the Signature does not disappoint.
A completely different type of tale than Girl on the Half Shell, the Signature is a story of betrayal and true heartache, one that brings together two of the most unlikely people - a Pullitzer press reporter and a rockstar - and weaves a web between the two that you cannot put down.
With well developed characters and a setting painted in a way that you feel you are right there - It it no surprise The Signature was an Amazon Bestseller.
Not an explicit romance, yet it still makes your heart race and beat with passion and fury.
I could not help but to fall in love with Devon, and I felt everything from empathy to anger for Krystal Stafford.
A FIVE star read reminiscent of the romance I grew up on and I want more -
Signature has ever emotion than an abused female may experience. Everything from love, betrayal, mistrust, confusion, being scared, scarred, insecure but also strength and determination. Do not doubt that there is strength sometimes in running away than it is to stay. Especially when it involves protecting your child. Read this for the emotional level of what a mom will do for her child when pushed in a corner and what one man will do to protect her.
What can I say about this book it was absolutely wonderful. It was a book that made you laugh and cry it drags you in and kept you reading to the very last page.. The subject matter is not something you usually aren't comfortable with, but it was done in such a way that you had to keep reading. This was a great book I recommend this book to everyone. I won this book on Goodreads. Thank you
I wasn't sure I'd like this book about a rock star, since I'm not a huge fan of celebrity and hoopla, but I did. It's really about community, family, and courage against formidable odds. The characters are likable and believable, and they have so much to overcome. Well done.
Another book that I have enjoyed reading...tangled lives and loves. Touching on abuse, fame, hiding, fear, and love - this book had me on the edge all the way through it. The end had twists I hadn't foreseen, and I was surprised and delighted to be caught unaware!
Wonderful book! Krystal has been abused by her ex-husband and has to go into hiding to protect her daughter and herself! Devon is a writer bent on writing the true story! A love story with healing and discovery you don't want to miss!
PG13/R - Sex, but described with euphemism; Language (including deity, 3 FBombs that come after 50% into the book). Emotional trigger: domestic violence. Don't read the epilogue unless you want to be sucked into another story that I can't find a book for!
I am a fan of Susan Ward , this book is a little different to some of her others in so much as there is very little described sexual encounters. However there is plenty of sexual tension as well as actual sex. The story is well drawn out, and rather complex but that made for an interesting read. Former popstar Krystal runs from an abusive ex who tries to kill her. She assumes a new identity but Devon a reporter tracks her down after two years . Their love story develops and makes this book so well worth reading.
Great story with great characters. The storyline was strong and believable. I got dragged right into their lives and felt the joy and anger and hurt......oh and the love.
This is the story of a woman learning who she really is after an abusive marriage and being charged with kidnapping her daughter. This act forces Krystal to run and use the "underground" to escape her abusive ex-husband and protect her daughter from his violence. The story is propelled by a reporter being tipped off to her true location, and it's through telling her story that she begins to discover who she really is and her confidence.
This is a powerful love story. A woman, rising star singer, goes on the run with the underground to safety. She is safe in a small town for two years. She is discovered by reporter. Not to expose her but to write her story. She finds friendship, trust and love. Highly recommend. Warning: there are maturities of how much she was abused by her ex-husband. It may be upsetting to some people.
This book started out slow and I was not sure that I wanted to continue. I hung in there and was glad I did. This was a sweet love story with a few twists in it. I highly recommend it to everyone.
I won't rate this one because I suspect my aversion is largely a personal taste thing. Abused heroine, savior hero is possibly my favorite romance trope this one just wasn't working for me. I don't usually do at synopsis because that's what the blurb is for but I found this one a bit confusing so for anyone elsewho did as well...a quick rundown. Krystle, our heroine, was married to Nick abusive ex husband, addict, and musician. She had an affair with Morgan, rock star who started her career and probably saved her life. When faced with turning full custody of kiddo to psycho ex heroine runs, goes underground though she does such a crap job it's a wonder no one found her before the start of the book. Morgan implores our hero, Pulitzer winning journalist, to find heroine and get her back home. Now that's done to my thoughts on this. This book aimed for a poignant slow burn, a romance built over time showing what they're building together. There are several issues with this. First, for me at least it missed it's mark...or overshot it rather. Instead of a gentle swell of romantic music it was more like a never ending loud cacophony. The writer aimed for poignant, I found it absurdly ott. We get it she's beautiful and innocent, a perfect unicorn. Everything about her is wonderful and perfect and nothing she does is wrong. Every man in the book put her on this pedestal and it made for a very unrealistic over romanticized stock character rather than someone I could identify with and invest emotions in. That fact made it easier for me to see through her portrayal to facts that poke holes in this perfect character. For instance, she runs to save get child's life yet leaves her with a veritable stranger to take a nap? Second, the slow burn is simultaneously there and not there. It is a remarkably slow paced book which in the end is why I gave up on it...sheer boredom, but on the other hand there's Insta lust on the part of both characters. The third issue I have is that the entire "relationship" we're supposed to be spending all this time building is built on a selfish lie on the part of the hero. Tldr: the book was too slow moving for my tastes. Spent all this time supposedly building a relationship, but on a lie, and somehow managed to be both ott prose wise and boring plot wise. dnf @47%
