All his life, Andy Jones has been looking after folks. Family and friends, he’ll break himself in half trying to make sure they get what they need. Finally taking something for himself, he hits the road astride a motorcycle, loving the freedom it provides. His travels bring him to Chicago, and Davis Mason, where he finds a sense of brotherhood he’ll do anything to keep. Anything.
Full description: Andrew Jones grew up in a small town in Wyoming, and as a teen watched his family implode following his father’s death. Driven by a need to provide for his little brother and remaining family, he begins looking for work, restlessly traveling from job to job on his Indian motorcycle, looking for something he cannot define.
Meeting Davis Mason, President of the Rebel Wayfarers MC in Chicago, is a central point in his life. Andy earns the name Slate, and over the following years gradually assumes the persona as first a prospect into Mason’s MC, then full patch member. He has finally found the brotherhood he longed for, the sense of connection and belonging…a family and a home.
The only thing missing from Slate’s life is a woman who can love him…all of him. He finds his match in a daughter of the MC, and his dreams become filled with her silent smiles, unruly red hair, and soft curves. She’s wary and afraid, having been hurt in the past, but Slate works to gain her trust, slowly building something between them.
Just as their relationship begins to grow, ghosts from their previous lives threaten to ruin everything. His brother comes to town, bringing his band and his own brand of troubles. Slate watches helplessly as events conspire to put the woman he loves in grave danger.
Can he save his woman from the dangers brought to her doorstep by the past, or will she and their love be a casualty of conflict within the club.

I just finished reading Slate and man, what a ride this was. I started my journey with MC books only a few months ago - didn't know this type of books even existed before then. I came upon Tillie Cole's Hades Hangmen, and then Lilly Atlas' No Prisoners. Burned through them. Was quickly hooked. Parting with them, I found Mica. Intrigued. At the beginning I had to get used to the style of the book. Had to learn it. Appreciate it. Then came Slate. I loved how MariaLisa showed his development through the years. How he molded, formed into the person he has become. How each experience made him. How he put everyone important in his life before himself. At first I was hesitant - more than half of the book deals with events from before Mica. I loved it. I love Slate, love the man he is, his loyalty, his love, his passion. He found his place in the world. It's difficult to put into words how Slate is permanently engraved into my soul. Don't mistake it as another biker romance, ladies. Far from it. The characters SHINE through the pages, you can see them clearly surrounding you, becoming a part of you. Life shown in these books isn't easy. It's real. The characters are real, the places, feelings and emotions - they all are real. You laugh, giggle and cry with Slate. MariaLisa - thank you, for creating such an awesome world for us to enjoy. I cannot wait to get to know Bear. I bet the books just get better and better. All the best to you, girl.
Epic series!!! Each book gets better and better, I am so glad I stuck with this series!! I liked the first book Mica but gave it 4 stars because I didn’t like how a few things turned out and then Slate absolutely blew me away!! Slate was an epic read and I would put it up there with one of my top favorite mc reads.
Bear is just as good and I am really looking forward to finishing the rest of this series. I highly recommend reading The Rebel Wayfarers for fans of authors such as Lauren Gilley, Susan Fanetti, Catherine Johnson, and Beth Flynn. I am so glad I discovered Maralisa DeMora!
This is about the journey Andy/Slate takes to become a MC brother and find his love Ruby, who becomes an offical MC Princess for the club (just like Mica). This MC Princess concept is cool and fleshed out quite well. I really liked reading about the Rebels and Andy's journey. Lots of interesting characters that populate not only this book but the series. If you're in it for the main romance, note that he doesn't meet Ruby until about 70% into the book, but Slate's life and his life's journey is what make this a good book for me. (Note: I'm astounded and happy about this since I couldn't get through the first book in this series - a lot of characters reoccur from that first book, and I'm fine with knowing them through later books in the series rather than that first one. If I were a beta reader for the author, I'd suggest re-editing that first one so more people would get to know this lovely series).
After Andys father dies Andy and his family sell their ranch and move to town. Andy does his hardest to take care of his mother and brother Benny. When his brother goes to live with their grandparents, Andy hits the road on his motorbike. I loved the journey that Andy took us on with him.
Although this book is quite long I absolutely loved it. Will be looking forward to reading more by this author.
I felt this story was a little slow in the beginning but by the end of the book, I realized that a lot of that back story for Slate was kind of necessary. It showed his growth and what is most important, family... no matter what shape it comes in. There was a little repeat from Mica but from Slate's POV. But then it really got good and I love Slate so much after reading his story.
I love MariaLisa's writing style. She gives in depth with the characters journey through life and how they become the person they are by the end of the story. and love how close the Rebel family is. I just cant believe all the people Slate/Andy met in his life and they are touched by his loyalty and respect. MariaLisa has me addicted the Rebel Wayfarers MC series..
READ, RATED AND REVIEWED AS PART OF THE BUNDLED SET :
4.5 Stars
Oh this book was so much better than book one! I thoroughly enjoyed reading Slate's story, from the very beginning, throughout his journey on his bike and the different places and people he came across until he finally found his place with the Rebels. His was an amazing beginning, with an interesting middle and an even better ending! I loved it!
The only thing that I didn't like about this book was the three to four chapters that I literally skipped because they were the just copied from book one and that was when Mica came into the picture. Those chapters could have been left out of the book or could have been condensed into one short chapter but to have those same three or four chapters word for word...ugh it was just boring as hell to read again. There were like a few paragraphs from Slate's POV but not enough to sit there and read those chapters, it was easier to just skip them..
I was glad Slate got his HEA, it was surprising it wasn't with the person I thought it would be with, but she was to young and annoyingly indecisive so his new woman was perfect for him...sweet and all about the club life!
FYI: This series cannot be read as Standalones. All these books interact in some form or fashion and it's better for the reader to read them in order or else you'll be confused as fuck!
I just finished Slate and I really enjoyed this book. I'm all about bikers so of course I'm all over it! It is apart of the Rebel Wayfarers Series and even though it could be read as a stand alone, I recommend reading this in order starting with the 1st one, Mica so you can really get a feel for all the characters especially Slate. It wasn't what I had expected. I was thinking it was going to pick up where we left off with Mica but I like how it started from the beginning with Andy, aka Slate. You see how he started out the sweet loving kid trying to help his family out, especially his brother Ben. It brings us through his journey in life and even though he is a little harder than he was, he still helps people and now they help him in return. I really enjoyed that. I loved how even though he ended being president to his own chapter we still hear from Mason and Tug and the others. I really liked the chemistry between Slate and Melanie. It was a quick one but believe able, sexy and hot. Couldnt have ask for anything better. Another plus....I can't wait to see what happens now. GAH. So many. Bear, Jason, Mason, Hoss, Gunny, JJ. So many and all I can say it I am so there.
I read this in the truck while David was driving and listened to the last 20% once I got the car and drove back home from Kansas City. Although I loved Slates story.... I felt it dragged on and on until the 78 or 79% mark when he finally got his chance at romance. And Honestly I kept thinking if he ends up like Mason I'm done with this series. My husband kept looking over at me and saying No feel good romance yet? I was like So as much as I Love/hated this story I did enjoy the ending. I felt that his life story background was a bit too long and drawn out. And honestly I think if I am doing all this thinking and checking at what percentage I'm at in a book and why there is no this or that... Then the author lost me. Because I should be so enveloped in the story that I don't know where I am in it. I'm giving it 4 stars even though I think that it was a 3.5. All is not lost I am still interested in the series and I've started Bear's story. It's really good right off the bat! So onward I go with the series!
This is a re read and it was just as great the 2nd time around. I love Slate he's an all around decent human. How hard he worked as a kid, what he did for his family and what he had to witness his mother go through...I can't even begin to imagine. I love how he traveled trying to find his place and we meet a lot of characters that are in all the books to come. Ruby, another tough as hell woman who has been to hell and back more than once. They needed each other and they are perfect together.
So, as much as I loved book one, Mica, this so far is my favourite!! I love how the author gives us EVERYTHING regarding Slate/Andy, his past and how he ends up with the Rebel Wayfarers. This truly was a fantastic story!!! The characters were really well written, the story flowed smoother than the road they ride on and everything was just AMAZING!! Loved it!!
This book was so much better than the 1st 1, not sure bears story can top this when it releases in december, loved how it spanned over 20 years since slate was a teenager
Slate's story broke my heart and all I wanted to do was cry (ugly tears) but slowly seeing him put himself back together was amazing and seeing how it all ended was awesome!!!
This book is very well written.Absolutely Love Maria Lisa. She coved everything in this book.I love Andy and his story and everything he went thru to become who he is,Excellent.
Wow. I thoroughly enjoyed reading all about Slate, getting his story right from where things started to go wrong when he was a teenager, up to present day when he's found his forever home with the Rebel Wayfarers MC. He had quite the adventure and for a lot of it I just wanted to give the guy a hug lol. Just when you think the story is going to go one way, MariaLisa deMora says nope, fooled you, it's all going this way now lol. This story pulled me in from the first page and held onto me until the last. I can't wait to see what's going to happen next.
This story follows Andrew’s journey after leaving Wyoming. Maria Lisa’s writing took me on a journey with Andrew while he goes through life in search of acceptance and belonging. The author was able to make me feel Andy’s need to constantly move from one city to another, where he never felt at home, his loneliness, his need to belong. Through the authors writing I knew that Andy was a caring and loving person and wherever he was at that moment in his life he would always help the people who surrounded him. He had many women over the years but no one was able to accept him for who he was, or was able to make him feel like he was home.
I have to say that from the very first page of Slate’s story I was pulled in. The author brings us into Andy’s past 20 years ago where he lost his father at 15 years old. Since the loss of his father, he has taken care of the family’s ranch and his 5 year old brother Benjamin. I liked that the author showed me what happened to Andy in his past because it gave me a better understanding of what he was going though. Life was not easy for him. His mother sold their ranch to pay for bills and moved them into a smaller house. His mother was a drunk and did not take care of the boys so Andy was forced to act like the parent and take care of his family. His mother would sleep with men to get money and use the money for alcohol over the years. After benny moves with his grandmother, Andy decides to pack up and leave Wyoming and his mother for good.
The author held nothing back with describing what Andy and his little brother went through after the loss of their father. It was hard for me to read and not feel pain and sadness for them.
When he finally reaches Chicago, he feels like this is a place that he could settle down, he makes some friends and he gets a job as a bouncer. Jacksons is a bar that is neutral territory for the gang so they have a safe place to hang out. Mason is the President of the Wayfarer’s MC and after a while Andy is recruited into the MC and is known as Slate since he has traveled a lot.
Maria Lisa gives readers the good and bad about life in the MC and how involved members are in that lifestyle. There are parts that are not easy to read but I was able to see why Slate felt like he finally had a home. He was not judged or forced to live the lifestyle, he chose it. Because of his loyalty to the club, he was made an Enforcer. Of course being an Enforcer meant he dealt with a lot of violent and illegal situations and because of those situations he started to feel restless. When another division of their MC needs help Slate is sent to Indiana. Things begin to look up for Slate there. He becomes the VP where he meets Melanie Davison. A woman that he is drawn too. Melanie (Ruby) is Mason’s daughter. She is not like any other woman he has met in his travels. Slate’s need to be around and protect Ruby goes against anything he has ever experienced all his years. The author beautifully shows this pull between the two and she shows us how unlike in the past Slate does not feel restless. What makes it also more natural is the relationship and love transpires over a period of months. This is not instant (LOVE THAT).
“I’ve never wanted to have an old lady before, but that’s all I can think about since I saw you. I don’t know if we’d be a good match, but god***, you are all I can see. Full f****** disclosure.”
“Baby, what I want is you in my bed. I want nothing more than you in my room until I move out, and then you with me in my house…our house. I want to come home to you; I want to make love to you…I simply want you.”
“I want that too Slate.”
“Baby, I need you to know that I’m not f******* around here. I don’t do casual. I need the words, Ruby. This means something to me, and you have to f****** know that.”
“It’s not casual for me either, Slate. I’ve never felt anything like this before, I want you.”
Ruby and Slates’ love story is not an easy one, just as Slates journey was not easy. Their pasts are determined to pop up and ruin they home they both found in each other. The author has a way of writing this story that literally pulls you in. I was intrigued and wanted to know if Slate (Andy) would ever find what he was searching for and if Ruby and Slate would get a HEA after all the pain they endured. This book is gritty, hard and the sex is just as harder. This is definitely one worth picking up.
“F****** wet for me, baby. F****** drenched. Love f****** you. I want this a**. One day, baby, I want all of you. You are mine. Yeah, baby come for me."
The more I read of this series, the more I fall in love with it!!! Learning Slate's story from the very beginning was great! Getting to know Andy from boyhood to manhood, seeing what molded him into the strong man he became... Totally makes me understand him and why he is the way he is. I was a little upset when things didn't work the way I thought they would at one point in the story, but I got over that when Ruby came into the story!!!! She was so perfect for Slate!!!
I LOVE SLATE!!! Slate did not have an easy childhood losing his father then his mom not being the way she needs to be. So he does what is needed and help support them until he just has to leave and when he does his whole life changes a little at a time, each significant thing that happens leads to a tattoo one of my favorites is The past is just practice , or never let fear decide your fate. Buying his Indian bike brought him to Chicago and meeting Mason and in that leads to his woman and family..
Although Slate is the second book in the Rebel Wayfarers MC series, you do not have to read Mica first. This book is Slate’s story – his adolescence, his years on the road after leaving home to find work to help support his family, the clubs he encountered while traveling for work, and his time with the Rebel Wayfarers. If you read Mica you will likely appreciate the minimal overlap between the books, not because it eliminates repetitive scenes, but because you learn the things that happened behind the scenes that Mica wasn’t aware of. I found this especially insightful when reading Ray’s attempted abduction of Mica from her house while Slate, Tug, and Tucker were there – I liked learning why Slate had gone to Mica’s room that night when he did.
The first third of the book details various aspects of Slate’s life before he meets Mason. Ms. deMora does a wonderful job of painting the picture of the painful yet impacting adolescence Andy (Slate) experienced and how it shaped who he would become. I loved how each of the significant experiences of his life were revealed and how they served as the story behind one of his many tattoos. It is through this that we learn that Slate is a sentimental man who takes life’s lessons to heart. Make no mistake, Slate is a total bada$$ but he is also a friend and a Brother to many people. I for one would much rather be a recipient of his loyalty and friendship than to be responsible for pissing him off and being the object of his wrath. Even though he and Essa did not end up together (my apologies to those readers of Mica who didn’t figure that out from Slate’s synopsis) I thoroughly enjoyed reading about their time together – the mutual masturbation scene was freaking hot!
I absolutely adored the relationship that Slate developed with Ruby. That he offered her a choice between club Princess and his Old Lady showed how aware he was of her problems even without actually knowing what they were. I really liked how patient he was with Ruby and that he took his time with her so that she became comfortable with him. This allowed the author to build up the sexual tension between Slate and Ruby, thus resulting in some really intense sex scenes. While Slate doesn’t have the same level of action and suspense that most of my MC reads do, it held its own with several threads in the story and had me on the edge of my seat more than once. Slate is an excellent addition to the Rebel Wayfarers MC series and I’m looking forward to reading Bear next.
I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. Reviewed by Angela at Crystal's Many Reviewers!
Andrew Jones is fifteen and he is handling all the work on his family ranch. He is also helping to take care of his younger brother Benny. Benny is only five. Andy's father gets increasingly sick until he finally passes away. After the funeral his mom sells the ranch to meet the bills and they take a small house in town. Over the next few years Andy has to take care of his mother and brother. His mother has become a drunk and she is always picking up men for money. Andy has finally had enough when his brother goes to live with his grandparents. He has enough saved he buys a motorcycle and sets out on an adventure that last for about the next twenty years. He goes from town to town and never joins any MC club. He stays in one place just a short while and he never starts a relationship with women. He doesn't want to be tied down. After each town he stays in he gets a new tattoo to keep in mind something important he has learned. This goes on for several years. Sometimes the MC gangs look on him as a threat and he is beaten up or worse at times. When he finally gets to a small town in Montana he feels like it could be home. He makes some friends and goes to work in a bar as a bouncer. This bar is considered neutral territory for the gangs so he feels safe her. The man that runs the bar Mason recruits him for his gang and after a time Andy joins. They give him the name of Slate because of his traveling. He becomes the enforcer for this gang. Over time he gets involved in a lot of bad situations and he is starting to get restless. Mason sends him to Indiania to help out their division of their club there. While working there he meets Melanie Davison. She works in the club and cooks for the members.. Slate is so drawn to her when he first meets her he calls her Ruby because she has red hair. Join in on this road adventure and meet the people Andy meets along the way. There is so much story here you won't be disappointed. This book does have sexual scenes and a lot of bad language so it is not for everyone. Join Slate and Ruby in this book This is a very long book a little over 500 pages but it is well worth the time to read
I was honored to receive this book for my honest review.
This is Andy’s (Slate) journey to finding happiness and himself along the way.
This review I must admit is a hard one to write the typical way. So here it goes.
Andy’s father passes in which they have to sell the farm that he has loved all his life. Along with that he finds that he must find the fulfillment to go on with his life. His younger brother Benny was always the one that took care of him each night when he came in from the farm. Though admirable in his own way Andy had miss thoughts on what life would bring his brother. He knew that whatever life brought to Benny that he would be ok. But was it all gonna work out that way? Does Benny turn out to be the rock that he so richly needs? Does Benny fall in between the cracks not because he isn’t loved but by the actions that Benny takes? This is you will have to read to believe.
Andy sets forth on a journey to find work whenever he can get it after purchasing his Indian. He gets on his Indian in which he sets out to start his journey of taking care of his family. Along his path he comes to find many characters along the way that in the end will be there when he desperately seeks the help that he so richly will need. For this understanding please pick up this book you won’t be disappointed.
Along his journey he picks up many names along the way but the last name that he picks up is Slate. It so sticks with him in this journey. On the final leg of this journey Slate meets up with Ruby can she tame the beast? Can she be the one that can hold his heart? Can he keep her safe? Can this man find the love that he so richly deserves?
Kudos to the author for this amazing, dynamic read. This was the first book that I have read by you and I am certain that it will not be my last. I really enjoyed taking this dynamic journey with Andy (Slate) and all his friends along the way. A must read for all enjoy it by the pool or even the beach woohoo
I enjoy reading any type of MC books. This book is a twist on MC world through the life of one individual is trying to find his place in the world while traveling across the US on his bike. Andy is a rancher at heart. Growing up on his parent’s ranch in Wyoming he helped to keep the ranch running, especially after his father became ill and could no longer do it. Andy’s life changed forever when his father passes and they sell the ranch and have to move to town. Andy has a giant heart and wants to ensure that everyone is taken care of without any thought to himself. He shows time and time again through the book that he is a selfless individual with a heart of gold. Benny is Andy’s little brother. When Andy needs to leave to find work and find his place in the world, Benny begins living with his Geema. After Andy leaves, he stays true to his word and he makes sure that Benny and his grandparents have what they need by sending them money. Throughout Andy’s motorcycle trip we get to experience so many different MC that he comes across from time to time. The way that Andy proves himself in his odd jobs and his overall good nature, people seem to like him everywhere he goes. The way this book was written gave an excellent back story into Andy’s life and travels and all the adventures along the way. It is hard to even put into words how much I LOVED the characters in this book. As I have said before Andy is an amazing person and it shows by the way people love him and want to be around him. He has the true heart of a MC member, he takes great pride in the brotherhood and it shows. The twists and turns throughout the book definitely kept me on my toes. The very interesting individuals that we were introduced to from town to town, club to club were very entertaining and a bit scary at times. The authors seems to capture the true essence of what it means to be in a MC, to be loyal and true, to hold brotherhood and family above all else. I can’t wait to read more in the Rebel Wayfarers MC series.
The author held nothing back with describing what Andy and his little brother went through after the loss of their father. It was hard for me to read and not feel pain and sadness for them. they watched there mom do things for money that no kids should see and on top of that she used the money to by booze. I have to be honest and say that i did not like this book all that much, i wanted more MC i wanted the rough tough story of the Club and i got a very sad story about one guy and his journey to find love.
i was happy with Ruby's character ,I was glad that Ruby decide she wanted to be a Princess and be untouchable. She had gone through hell with another MC, and once you got to know her and her story you understood her and really felt for her. I knew that Slate would do well by her, because he was oddly really sweet when it game to intimacy and loving women.
I was not a fan of having chapters bouncing all over place making it harder to keep track of everything. Honestly the first half of the book could have been summarized in a 3 or 4 chapters and the reader would have been happy. All I can say is that the more I read the more frustrated I became. I wanted to love this. I really did. But I sadly did not. I had the same problem with book one just too many words for a story that could have been cut in half.
I would give this book a 3 fangs
Reviewer for Paranormal Romance and Authors that Rock
"I GOT THIS"! I loved the story of Andrew Jones (Slate) meets Melanie Davidson (Ruby) I love Slate he is really the nicest man, a gentleman and it came naturally to him. Lord knows the way he grew up he wasn’t taught how to be one. A lot happened to him to make him the way he is. I love his “I GOT THIS” The phrase started when he was a young kid. He had to grow up very fast. His dad died when he was a young teen, his mother became addicted to drugs and sex. He had to be the man and tried to care for his younger brother. Slate takes care of his own! It took Slate a long time to finally find love and I was so happy that he found it with “Ruby”.
I have so many pages bookmarked from the lessons that Slate learned through life and he has those lessons imprinted on his skin in the way of tattoo's. I loved the ending of the book with his forgiveness of his mother and him showing her his tattoo's.
MariaLisa deMora took more time in developing characters and more was explained about Michaela & why Mason became so protective of her.
I am looking forward to reading more about the MC Rebels Wayfarers that are written about in each of these books. The next book in this series is Bear and thank goodness it is already out so no waiting for me. Slate was given to me as an ARC, given to me for an honest review. I very much enjoyed this and am in love these Rebel Wayfarer men. I give Slate 4.5 stars. "I GOT THIS!"
