Alissa Lewis is looking for more than just inspiration… she needs an escape.
After being unceremoniously fired from the newspaper she where worked for years, Alissa feels lost and uncertain. On a whim, she books a getaway to a literary-themed B&B near a small beachfront town called Blueberry Bay.
She's hoping a change of scenery will give her a fresh start, and from the moment she arrives, she's enchanted by the beautiful landscapes and friendly people. As luck would have it, an opportunity to extend her stay arises when she finds out that the local paper is hiring. There's only one problem—the man who runs it is as grumpy as he is intriguing.
Dane Taylor is from New York, and unlike Alissa, he's skeptical of the peaceful charm small-town life has to offer. But as the two of them begin to work together, Alissa realizes they have more in common than she first thought. And as Dane reveals his softer side, feelings start to develop that neither of them expected.
Shaking things up even more, Alissa's twin sister Caitlin pays a surprise visit and admits that her marriage is in trouble.
As the sisters lean on each other through the changes and challenges they face, Alissa realizes she's at a crossroads between the life she thought she wanted and the true meaning of happiness.
She thought Blueberry Bay would be her escape, but instead, it's starting to feel a lot like... home.
Nestled against the beautiful New England town of Whale Harbor, Blueberry Bay is a cozy coastal town with sandy beaches and a cast of characters who'll make you laugh, smile, and be swept away. If you enjoy clean romance and stories that celebrate family and friendship, this series is for you!
A Whisper in the Bay by Fiona Baker is the first book in a series called Chasing Tides set in Whale Harbor/Blueberry Bay, Rhode Island. I believe this book is listed as a romance, but it is a closed door, side of romance on the side of a change or crossroads in life arc for both Dane and Alissa. This is the first book I have read by Ms. Baker, but it certainly won't be my last. I love crossroads...change of life...second chances novels. I love characters who are brave enough to admit they are not happy or satisfied with their lives, and make changes and take risks to gain the lives they want. Alissa is living in Denver, Colorado and has a job as a journalist. She is suddenly let go because she is not a good fit. She goes to a B&B in Whale Harbor, Rhode Island to get some perspective on her options, learns about an opening at a newly started newspaper, and gets a job. Dane is the owner of the newspaper and is caught up in his own crossroads cycle. Dane is also figuring out how to make a successful newspaper and more. I really enjoyed reading A Whisper in the Bay, and I am looking forward to reading the other books in the series. I am hoping that readers learn more about the back stories of the characters in each book.
Fiona Baker's new series Chasing Tides leads off with A Whisper in the Bay. After losing her job as a writer for a large Denver newspaper, Alyssa Lewis escapes to a small town in Maine to think and reconsider her life choices. She meets Dane Taylor, who runs the small town newspaper and she is hired as a writer. Her creative spirit is really enhanced by the people and personality of the unique little town. I liked meeting a lot of new characters, like Alyssa's twin sister Caitlin, and reconnecting with characters from other series. I really loved the vivacious and positive spirit of adventure displayed by Alyssa. The plot was interesting, and I look forward to the next book in the series.
Yet another great book from Fiona Baker. I was drawn into this story right away and didn’t want to put it down. I read it in two days.
Following our dreams is important and can create such a fulfilling feeling. Alissa ignited a love of writing again for Dane that he had lost. Blueberry Bay infused Alissa and reignited her passion as a writer. Her story flowed with the beauty and sense of calm that surrounded her.
They say that when one door closes another opens. This is exactly what happens in this story. Alissa goes on vacation after a traumatic event and finds something she wasn’t looking for. And from there the story unfolds. Great ending and looking forward to the next in the series
Fiona Baker gives her readers what they want. I was drawn into this story right away. The characters are realistic, friendly and the small coastal towns jump off the pages of there beauty and atmosphere. I can't wait to read the second book. Get your copy you'll see what I mean. As always happy reading.
What a delightful read! Just what I needed! Well developed characters in an interesting setting, sounds like a great place to live and stretch your boundaries, beyond your doubts. Life gives us such exciting challenges if we dare to accept them, the sky and sea are the limits! 👍👍
A Whisper in the Bay is a quiet, comfortable easy read…a perfect choice to relax with. I read it while traveling the Amalfi Coast, and enjoyed my train, bus, plane or just before bed moments as I lost myself in Alissa’s life journey. I’m inspired to check out the coast of Rhode Island now.
Ahhhhhh… what nice vacation for the soul to stop in Blueberry Bay
With all the uncertainty in daily life, taking a breather in the bay was the braincation I needed! Love the characters emerging and the feeling of the place and the story and subtext.
The book started out a little slow But the more I got into it the more it made me feel good. I love I love that it is a warm love story And that there's nothing vulgar about it.
I love easy, happy, feel good stories. This one just fit the bill so well. A young girl is searching for herself and stumbles across a great opportunity while away from home. I love happy endings and this one is great. Wonderful story
It was a lovely story about a young woman trying to figure out her life ....She finds her happiness in a new location she has a new job and finds love along the way....It was a quick read and an enjoyable one ...Thank - you , M.L.😊
Not sure what all the hype is for this book and the 4+ ratings. I must have missed something. I found the plot to be shallow and predictable and frankly not worth my time.
Great new series! I absolutely love Fiona Baker's books, and this one did not disappoint! I can't wait for more of Dane, Alissa, Caitlin, and the town of Blueberry Bay.
It took me awhile to get into this book but when I did it was great. The details are wonderful and I would love to visit Blueberry Bay and eat at The Crab!
Alissa is on vacation in Blueberry Bay after being fired from her newspaper job in Denver. She finds a job at the fledging paper. A really good story and good writing.
Fulfillment does come from unexpected places, especially if it comes with a person you love. Great read and I want to find out what happened in the coming books.
