But those pesky heroes keep getting in the way, and it's all she can do to give them a good fight without killing them. Supervillainy is such an underappreciated job these days....
This story was enjoyable. However, it was my introduction to the Dire Saga and so I had no idea who any of the characters were. I started the first book, Born, right after this one and was very confused. In this book, the main character, Dr. Dire, has established herself as a villain and has a team of heroes who are her arch enemies. However, in Born, nobody recognizes the main character's name, including that hero team from this book who are her arch enemies. This book needs to be relabeled from 0.5 some number that better representative of where it falls in the timeline. This story was enjoyable, but reading it as the introduction to the series really messes up the experience of reading Born because it causes a ton of confusion.
Great sense of humor, nice action flow. Minus a star because it did interesting things with gender throughout only to at the very end spend lots of time describing the character’s features. She is unconvincingly described as plain despite describing herself as having a “snub nose”, high cheekbones, being six feet tall and thin….
A fun little taster tale, but I have no idea where it fits in the cannon. I would much rather read an altenate future Dire story, now that the future has been changed.

Set somewhere in the Andrew Seiple's Teslaverse, Dire fights to make her "Evil" plan a succes. Everything goes just fine, except for those pesky heroes running around and getting in the way.
A quick bit of fun, where Dire gets to be awesome and we get to enjoy the explosive result.
This feels like a teaser of what is to come in later books. A fight a pathway written that we have yet to see the writing for. I understand by what people mean by feeling like it is book 1.5 or later but at the same time I feel this is a great way to see what is to come and whether you want to step into that world. I loved it and really got me pumped for book one. Just felt a little lost at the rivalries and the world. It is very short but informative.
