Saved by a SEAL

Rate this book
Zane Alexander was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, but the rebellious bad boy traded it, along with his share of the family fortune, for a Navy SEAL trident and freedom from his controlling father.

Ten years later, Zane’s teammates are depending on him to secure the startup capital they need to open their security company and he’s gambling on his skills at covert operations to get it. For a million dollars he’ll fake interest in Missy Greenwood, the Senator’s daughter his father wants him to date in exchange for the investment.

But when Missy is kidnapped and Zane and his team are sent to Nigeria to rescue her and the others being held, bullets as well as sparks of attraction start to fly. There’s no more faking when the danger and the emotions both turn very real in this contemporary romantic suspense.

I liked this book, but it wrapped up to fast. The story was great, but in the last 2 pages she got kidnapped and rescued! It just would have been better longer.

In this second book of the Hot SEALs series we follow Zane's story. He has offered to ask his rich (estranged) father to provide the one million start-up money Zane and his SEAL buddies need to open their security company GAPS (Guardian Angel Protection Services).
Zane left behind his family and controlling Dad when he was 18 to join the Navy against his fathers wishes. But now he desperately wants the money, even if it means doing whatever conditions his Dad presents him with.
Enter Missy Greenwood.
The 25 year old girl had a huge crush on Zane back when she was a little girl & teenager - she followed him around the country club like a puppy. But Zane is five years older and he never really noticed her as a female ☺.
That will change now.
He has to date - and eventually marry - this beautiful rich girl. That's his Dad's condition - do that - and you and your buddies will get your money.
But Zane asking her out comes at a very bad moment - Missy is about to leave for Nigeria. She wants to work as an englisch teacher at a school for african girls, for the nexrt three months.
Unfortunately Nigeria is not the safest place for a rich american girl to spend her time...
Zane might get his chance to meet her again sooner than he thought - but it might be not the romantic/sexy setting they both imagined....

WHAT WiLL HAPPEN TO ZANE & MiSSY?
WiLL THE TWO OF THEM GET THEiR HEA??
WiLL EVERYBODY DiE AT THE END???
WiLL THERE BE A CLiFFHANGER?

I'M NOT TELLiNG YOU THAT OF COURSE ☺

As you might know by now I am such a huge fan of everything Navy SEAL!!!!!
Total fangirl!!!

description

We have this really hot SEAL Zane....
who we already fell in love with in NIGHT WITH A SEAL!

description

... he's such a mix of dangerous bad boy warrior and former country club rich boy ☺ adorable!
And Missy is a really great heroine too.
Most girls in books get on my nerves a lot ☺ but Missy was really great and cute and innocent and adorable but she still knows how to deal with this big, bad country club SEAL.

I really loved this story.
It had everything a good book needs...

FUNNY MOMENTS
SEXY & ROMANTIC MOMENTS
DANGEROUS MOMENTS
ADORABLE MOMENTS

Yes, it was a bit short - I would've loved another 200 pages - but pfff - it had everything I need in my stories.

I can't wait to read the next book about Chris who is verrry interested in his ex-team-mates' sister Darci ☺

SAVED BY A SEAL
was a short but really great Romantic Suspense!

And as I said before - I would sooo love it if someone would make a movie/tv-show out of this series - just so we could stare and fangirl at hot SEALs all day long!!!!

This is a newer author for me, I am very happy to have picked up this book. It was a quick little read that was rather delightful. Plenty of action and steam in this short read.

Love Zane’s attitude and Missy’s sass! They are quite the pair, attracted to each other but not wanting to fall into their parent’s plans. It was a swift leap to love with this book, something I am not always a fan of, I prefer the whole courtship over time.

I love a mixed narrative, really helps you see both characters clearly and understand their motives. It is especially key here because they are not really on the same page when things start. I do see this as a love will grow sort of relationship.

The smexy stuff is delicious, especially when read by Craig Jessen who is a delightful narrator. His smooth tone rolls over you as he keeps the story moving at a steady pace. I will definitely be looking for more of his reads!! Yummy yummy!

In the end I would have liked the story to be a bit longer, I think that would have helped sell the romance more. Do not get me wrong there is chemistry, but it is more lust than love at this point. I tend to like more show than tell in my romances. I will be looking for other reads from this author, because I hear she has more hot SEALs! Love a man in uniform!

3.0 RATING- Was just looking for a shorter read to fill some "in between" time I had and this worked just fine. I didn't like it as much as the first book in the series but was okay.

Trigger warnings: war, kidnapping, shitty parenting, death (implied, off the page), terrorism

2.5 stars.

Y'all, this was Not Good. I literally only picked it up because the blurb mentioned that the heroine gets kidnapped in Nigeria and the hero and his SEAL buddies come to the rescue, and I'm trying to read books set in 50 different countries this year and I figured that given the length of this, it was an easy way to tick off a country. Uuuuuuuunfortunately, about 15 pages of this is actually set in Nigeria and the "she gets kidnapped" part literally happens in the last 20% of the book.

Instead, the bulk of the story is Zane dealing with his dad and reconnecting with Missy and, like, them going shopping together to buy her stuff she'll need for her trip to Nigeria??? There's a whole discussion about the benefits of moisture-wicking underwear that seems to go on forever, and then the kidnapping is almost an afterthought.

But add in the fact that I didn't really like Zane as a protagonist and this was decidedly meh for me. At least I got through it quickly... (The cover is absolutely appalling omg)

An exciting, fast-paced installment in the author’s Hot SEALS series!

This was Zane Alexander, the boy who had been a Casanova since he hit puberty.

Saved by a SEAL by Cat Johnson is another exciting, fast-paced installment in the author’s Hot SEALS series. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to playboy Zane's story. Even though this is the second book in the series, it can be enjoyed as a standalone, if that is your preference. The romantic relationship and the development of the danger plot are fully contained within this novel. That said, your enjoyment in the book would be increased if you have read the series in order, as the character development of Zane and his friends began in the first book.

Saved by a SEAL picks up where Night with a SEAL ended. In the first book, Zane Alexander had promised his close-knit group of friends that he would obtain the hefty financing needed to start their new security business from his rich father. As this story opens, Zane meets with his father - only to discover that his father is attaching terms-personal-to-Zane to the deal. The terms drive home why Zane rebelled as a youth. With no allowance for Zane’s feelings, Mr. Alexander wants Zane marry Missy Greenwood, who had a crush on Zane before he went into the military. She is five years younger than Zane and a senator's daughter. Zane shudders at the thought. Not wanting to let his friends down, Zane makes arrangements to meet up with Missy…

In the meantime, it’s been ten years since Zane left for the military. Missy has moved on. To the dismay of her family, she has volunteered to teach English in war-torn Nigeria. When Zane calls her, she is preparing to leave the country.

I really liked both Zane and Missy. They are drawn as realistic, upstanding characters who care about the world and its people. I shudder at the thought of growing up with Zane's father. Missy may be a society girl, but she’s down-to-earth. Will the team get the funding to finance their breakaway from the bureaucratic military? You need to read this installment to be in the know!

Following please find a few of my favorite quotes from Saved by a SEAL:

Zane rolled his eyes, glad he had come alone. Hell of a negotiator John would be. He would have given the whole damn company away and they'd all have been working for his father, God help them.
"So, how long?" John asked.
"I hope soon. With any luck he 'll have something for me to sign tomorrow. I'm going to hang here tonight, unless we get called in." It wouldn't kill him to sleep under his father's roof for one night, probably. That would also give time for the required show of good faith: the date with Missy.
"So that will be it then, a signed contract and we're good to go?"
"That's it." A signed contract and Zane's bachelorhood, if his father had his way.
---
"That reminds me. Make sure you drink a lot of water while you're there, or you'll dehydrate fast. And if you find yourself not peeing, or your urine is dark in color, you're not drinking enough."
The last thing in the world she'd ever wanted to discuss with Zane Alexander was the color of her pee.
---
Zane liked his love life simple: catch and release, and then move on. The problem was, Missy wasn't anything like his usual prey.
---
She would love to think he was reluctant to leave her, but she realized he was waiting to make sure she got safely into the house before he drove away. Zane might be the most frustrating man on earth, a paradox she couldn't figure out, but he was the type of guy to make sure a woman was safe before he left her in the dark. Just as he was the type of man who'd chosen the best knife for her to carry to Nigeria. He was also the type to kiss a woman breathless and leave her alone and confused. With a sigh, she turned and made her way to the front door, digging for her key as she went. One sleepless night pondering Zane and this odd day definitely wouldn't be enough to figure out the mystery of the man. But, it would be a start...

Craig Jessen nails the narration of this series. His voice is clear. His performance is polished. His delivery is natural and well-paced. He differentiates between the characters, pausing at the appropriate times. His performance enhanced my enjoyment of the book. I am glad to see that he’s narrated the first five books in this series. Unfortunately, the rest aren’t available as audios – so I will have to switch to reading the books after that.

I became acquainted with Cat Johnson’s books at the Coastal Magic Convention last year. Since then, I’ve read two books in her Oklahoma Nights series, three books in her Midnight Cowboys series and listened to two of her Hot SEALs books. That doesn’t count the books I’ve picked up to read soon! Her books always hold my interest with well-plotted story lines. I love her sexy heroes whether they are cowboys or military. If you enjoy intriguing romances with spice, sizzle and dangerous thrills, I’d recommend that you pick up Saved by a SEAL! I already have SEALED at Midnight queued to listen to soon!

A great blend of heat, swoon and suspense!
Saved by a SEAL was loaded with action and romance. A great blend of heat and swoon mixed with some heart-pounding suspense.

I listened to Saved by a SEAL on audiobook. I loved the narration. It was just what I needed to make a busy afternoon of housework speed by enjoyably!

Ending was rushed - again

Better character development and storyline than in book 1. Not sure why these are so short, they just seem to end. The author seems to focus on the wrong things. We got a ridiculous amount of time on shopping - it was boring and not important to the story. And how can I be the only one who thinks Missy is crazy and naive. How is she going to Nigeria with absolutely no guidance from her employer???? Anyways, I digress, so after that, we get 5 minutes on the "Saved" part of the story???

The author also does a good job of making the heroes a$$holes, but no time on the redemption part. The women are doormats.

The narrator was better in this book (good male voices) but I still had to listen at 2x speed. So a short book was even shorter.

This is the second book in the series.

In this book, we met our hero in the last book. Our hero comes from a wealthy family, but he never has told anyone about them. Upon his friend, we met in the first book as our hero, looking towards him for funding for their new business. Our hero figures if he gives his father what he wants, then he'll more than likely get what he's asking for. However, his father pulls a swift one on him and wants even more than what our hero thinks he would. However, he knows his friends are counting on him to get the money so he presses on.

One of the conditions was to go on a date, serious date, with one of the girls from his childhood and he has to pretend he's interested in her. However, once they get to know each other he finds this girl from his childhood, which is also our heroine, isn't so bad at all. However, she's going overseas to teach within a few days.

However, when her teaching assignment doesn't quite go to plan, and she needs help. The hero's team gets called in the help her. During this time, they get to know more about each other and soon can't hold back their attraction to each other. However, how can he be interested in our heroine but he doesn't want her involved in anything to do with his father. After the hero loses funding for their new business, how can he get the money together for everything? How can he he involved with the heroine without his father being a cause? What happens is a great twist.

I loved this one too. However, I had a small problem with getting over the rich kid part of both the hero and heroine. I found mainly the heroine was too rich raised, but all of a sudden she was ok with cheaper and not richy stuff? I just didn't buy that part of the story line. However, if you got past the rich part, the characters were likable and did sound like people you could have spoken to or know. The plot was good with the happenings and how things folded together. The ending part was great because you didn't know exactly what was going to happen which is great.

While I did enjoy reading (well, technically listening to the audio) Saved by a SEAL, and there were lots of good in it, I don't think this was a good fit of a story for me - and maybe it was because I mostly only listened to it while I was driving to/from work, so the constant start/stop left me feeling a bit disconnected to the story and characters. I also think it's more a "my personal taste/preferences" thing that made me not really connect with the story- I'm sure others will enjoy this wholeheartedly. I also wasn't a huge fan in the narration of it - which may have also affected things for me.

Missy was awesome in knowing herself, being able to fight through her insecurities, and being willing to chase down what she wanted. However that same assertiveness also made me wince at times (although Zane seemed to like it, and that's what matters, yeah? lol). She also had a heart of gold in wanting to teach the girls in Nigeria and doled out forgiveness which softened me towards her.

I loved Zane's sense of protectiveness and how his integrity refused to follow through on a bad decision. However, dude was quite the jerk a few times and even though he won Missy over, and even though I kinda softened towards him with some of his actions in Nigeria, I still wasn't as drawn to him as a hero as I wish I could have been.

I loved their first date and how they were able to build off their past connection. And I loved the moments in the truck together. But I also felt the kidnapping and rescue was a bit anti-climatic and wish more time would have been expanding upon that instead of the repetitive internal dialogue from both Zane and Missy.

If your looking for a SEAL story where the emphasis is more on the relationship and less on the action (suspense) and enjoy an assertive heroine and a hero who has some jerky moments he's gotta sort out, this would be a great fit.

I got so invested in book 1 of the series that couldn’t wait to listen to the next story. Needless to say, I loved it and now am seriously hooked.
This time , we get Zane Alexander’s story. He’s the player/playboy of the group, from a wealthy family and definitely not in good terms with his father. But now that Zane and some of his teammates are considering not re-enlisting and creating a private security company that can do what the government’s red tape doesn’t allow, he and his friends are in need of 1M. His father will give him the money so long as he’s part owner AND Zane woos Missy Greenwood.
Missy Greenwood is a senator’s daughter and the “kid” that always was followed him at the country club.
What started as a date gets complicated and they go their separate ways. Neither happy with the outcome.
But when Missy is in danger, will Zane and his team safe her and the schoolgirls she’s been working with , in time? And if he does, will past actions be forgiven and trust given back?
It’s a story filled with the complexities of family dynamics, friendships, danger, hope, new beginnings and of course, romance.
Another wonderful story in this series. The narrator was very good with the delivery of the voices and we always knew who was speaking.
Looking forward to the next book in the series.

I listened to the audio book. It was supposed to be a 4+ hr listen, but it did not seem that long. The narration was ok. When the book began, it was hard for me to distinguish one character from another. This got easier as I moved forward in the book.

It was a quick read with some romance and action, but I did not expect it to move as quickly as it did. I thought there would be more details. Like when Zane's team went to Nigeria to rescue Missy, I thought there would be a lot more to that part of the story. The team got the word about the rescue. The team was told to sit tight, and the next scene, they were rescuing Missy, driving away from the camp, and then she was at home.

We could only infer that only 6 students survived because no one would answer Missy's questions. There was nothing said about what happened to Missy's friend after the rescue. That was just one part of the book that felt like it raced through the entire situation. At so many points I expected so much more.

There were steamy parts. The romantic parts occurred at the beginning of the book for me. Overall, the book didn't feel like it was enough. It was ok, but seemed to skim through the story. There was an HEA. I guess the ending was HEA'y enough.

Zane is tasked with getting the start-up money from his father, in order to start GAPS. Guardian Angel Protection Agency (GAPS) is his friend Jon's idea and he doesn't want to let them down. However his father has conditions for Zane, date and potentially marry Missy, the Senator's daughter. Zane being a known playboy, isn't willing to marry anyone but a simple date will help him catch up with his old friend Missy, and show his father he at least tried.

However meeting Missy he seeing her for more than the tag-along she once was, and for the woman she is now. He finds himself having fun getting to know her again. After learning she is going to be teaching in a remote part of Nigeria he helps her prepare. After his father puts additional conditions on the investment he decides to turn him down, not wanting to hurt Missy.

However when she is kidnapped, he realizes just how much he cares for her. Willing to put his playboy ways behind him and fight for Missy.

Missy and Zane have known each other for years, but Zane is 5 years older, and Missy had a crush on him when she was still too young for him. Zane and his SEAL brothers want to start a protection agency, and his father will fund it if Zane dates and hopefully marries Missy. Missy is the daughter of a senator, and Zane’s father wants that political connection. It bothers Zane to know he’s dating Missy under false pretenses, so he comes clean. Then he acts like an idiot, and then he doesn’t. You’ll need to read the story to get the details.

It’s a quick read, and there is a good amount of tension. Because of their long-standing knowledge of each other, this isn’t technically an ‘insta-love’ story, but it feels a little like one. Nevertheless, the story moves at a fast pace, and the characters are likable, except when Zane acts like a jerk. This seems to be the start of a new series that looks promising.

Unexpected love

Even though I enjoyed this story a lot, I felt like there were parts missing. SPOILER : orders to prepare and wait were given then next thing you know feet hit the ground on a mission. What happened to the negotiation? What happen to the orders for the mission? I would have enjoyed seeing Zane squirm while waiting for orders to come down and feel his emotions come to light for Missy while he waited. This is just one example. Other than that this story was excellent. I enjoyed the family drama, the support between friends and the discovery of feeling complete. The story line is dramatic and adventurous with a sweetness added in to it. I'm looking forward to the next one.

Missy and Zane had known each other as children and teenagers. I loved how they reconnected and had a more grown up attraction. Missy was strong willed and wanted to be more independent from her family. Zane was very protective of her until he realized that it was more. They definitely were a fun couple when they were conversing. Craig Jessen made the characters come alive, and I enjoyed his changes in voice. I recommend this story.

I received a copy of this audiobook as a gift, and this is my unsolicited review.

Our families and our pasts do shape us. Sometimes for the better, sometimes it can leave us broken. It all depends on how we response. Zane had more to overcome than most and I so wanted to slap him so many times during the reading of this book. In the end he finally did what was right for Missy and himself, let go of the negative influences of his past, and they were able to find their HEA. Cat Johnson did a wonderful job creating a story that showed two very different sides... the healing power of love & forgiveness, the other the damaging effects of manipulation & greed.

My only issue with this book is that I read Desire in DC first which is the story of Missy's parents. That book her mom was independent and strong and didn't care about money and her father was poor and came from middle class. This book made it seem like her mom was all about money qnd upper class. Also Missy would be 25. In the first book they were hoping to adopt an older boy when Missy was born. Her brother married and moved away 20 years prior. So they what? Adopted an older teen who then just took off five years later?????

3.5 Stars

I've never had a book redeem itself to such an extent before. The first half of Saved By a SEAL was pretty dull but the writing had a great flow and it was short so I kept reading. I honestly didn't expect it to get better, but it did. And then some. So if I were to rate each half it would be 2.5 stars for the first and 4.5 for the last. Now I'm kind of jonesing for the next book...

Loved it, and on to the next, something good gets you/ me and boom, keep going, even if checking acct screaming, lol

Loved Zane and Missy's story just as much as Jon and Ali, btw loved it was Jon who got to Missy and Diana (her associate teacher) first, and his comment, WONDERFUL!

This is the second book in the Hot SEALs series, but it can be read/listened to as a stand alone. I actually liked the story even better than the first book. Some characters over lap with the first in the series, Night with a SEAL, but most of the characters and settings are unique to this book.

I listened to the Audible version. Craig Jessen does a nice job with the narration.

I am liking this series. I do enjoy that they’re nice, quick reads but I can’t help but wonder if I wouldn’t LOVE them if they’re re a bit longer and I got to know the other characters better. So far both books have been one night stands. Leave. Danger! Oh, wait, I love you! Hopefully the others follow a slightly different plot.

Zane and Missy

A very good story with great characters
After 10 years Zane thought he might do this one thing for him. At first he said yes then added on that he needed to court and marry Missy. Until he met Missy again he could take one for his friends. But when his dad moved the markers he called it off. Called Missy and told her the whole truth.

Really 3 1/2

Very short, quick reads. So much happens, but there are many time gaps. Ending was too abrupt. Things get resolved too quickly. Book needs better editing. But I liked it!! I'm jumping to book 9 in the series to get Ali & Jon's HEA!!

There are more to these characters than meets the eye. While the hero is a little difficult to like at times, you have to respect his decisions. The heroine is a little too naïve for my tastes but she does show some spine when it counts.

Again another quick, hot romance with a little angst and action/drama plus hot bedroom times. Why did I start this series? Now I want to read the rest of the series, especially when there is another book with them later on (plus another book for the couple in the fist book).
