Love is Blind is a story about Kelsey Roston finding love where she least expected it, all the while navigating high school as a senior. Finding friends and acceptance, she gets offers that happen to one in a million and proves that once knocked down, she shows her strength by getting right back up. And though life gives us scars, they are nothing to be ashamed of. It goes to show how strong we are and that we survived.
I really wanted to find a reason to rate this higher. Really!!! I did not dislike the characters, the story was fine and it could have been a nice novella... And it should have been, but the writing was so.... lacking!!!! It read like the diary of a middle schooler, complete with the vocabulary and wordsmithship of such.... Instead of it being laconic but poignant, it was just... lacking in everything! I even think I am being generous with the rating, but I am hoping that the author is a very, very young person who is venturing into writing and I want to support new authors.... My advice, find a good editor and gather more emotional experiences - those were most lacking in the story... I am sorry to be like that, but it is my honest opinion. As a story, the only target audience would be mid-graders to high-school at the most. Nice message otherwise.
This book was pretty much a mess. The writing went from past to present tense sometimes in the same sentence. The formatting changed halfway through the book. The plot was too simple and I felt like I was missing whole chapters. It reads like it was written by a teenager with no life experience. Just one example: one of the characters gets beaten up. She is unconscious for 8 hours and the doctor says she has some internal bleeding and says his advice is for her to stay in the hospital overnight. Really? Unconscious for 8 hours and internal bleeding and your "advice" is to stay overnight?? It was an okay effort but not worth more than 1.5 stars.
I'm only three chapters in right now and I'm... not sure what to think. I thought it would be a casual story about two people falling for one-another, but... Kelsey and Rain are literally "dating" after having known one-another for only one day. I don't mean "going on a date", I mean it was actually worded "well if you're going to be dating my daughter". On their SECOND DAY together, Kelsey reveals her leg injury and literally worries if Rain "won't want to date her anymore". Lady... you met ONE day ago, Jesus Christ!
I feel like if this were a straight couple, I'd be ripping this book apart, but since F/F romance books are not nearly as common as straight romance books, it feels like this author thinks she can get away with stuff like this. I'm wondering if I shouldn't write to the author and tell her that. It's insulting when you think about it. "Hey, they're starved for any kind of literature they can identify with; I can write a book over a three day week-end, not even edit it, and I'll still make thousands in sales!" Gurl, BYE.
I swear, I'm giving this one more hour to turn it around, and if not, f**k this s**t, I'm out. Maybe I will write her a letter and include a copy of "Annie on my Mind" with a note "So you can learn how to tell a good story and maybe turn out something that isn't basically a 200+ page joke about how stupid you think your audience is".

FiveStars This is an amazing yet quick read. It is wonderfully written. You cant help but fall in love with Kelsey and Rayane. This book drew me in on the first page and I could not put it down. It made me laugh it made me cry. When something happenes you cant help but feel the emotion as if you are there. The way the characters are written you feel their pain. Alex Gryffron fouond the perfect ammount of details. There were not to many so that you wanted to skip over some parts and not to few that you were left wondering about anything. It was just enough so you know all you need to know to connect on an emotional level. I loved it from the first page to the last. ThreeStar A very easy to read fresh novel.
Good to read about families accepting their daughter being a lesbian with such ease and confidence. The novel also touched upon some of the dangers of being an "out" lesbian. It was a satisfying novel with a lovely finale.
I think young teenagers might identify with this book and be helped by some of the refreshing concepts.
It would be a helpful for British reader if the age of the main characters was identified early in the novel due to the differences in educational terms.
When Kelsey was hurt and hospitalised then almost immediately went on to have her eye procedure I was a little alarmed with the speed at which this occurred.
I was also aware of, in parts, of Erik Schubach's influence, obviously in a positive way.
This story matures as Kelsey herself matures and this is one of the strengths of the book. A very easy to read novel.
