Vegas Aces: The Playbook #1

Fumbled: Vegas Aces

Rate this book
As a pro football player, I'm known for scoring both on and off the field. All that changes when a tragic accident leaves me as a single dad to a little girl.

With both our lives flipped upside down, I'm scrambling to balance my career while supporting the needs of a girl who just had her life torn apart. My little black book is replaced with pink unicorns, and her peanut allergy means I have to rethink every meal I make. Despite my initial hesitation and uncertainty, I'm determined to do right by her.

Then we meet her reading teacher, Victoria, who's everything I'm not—responsible, bookish, and patient. Our constant verbal clashes feel like some twisted form of foreplay. Watching how quickly she bonds with my daughter in ways I can't proves I need her for more than simply helping me navigate this new life. Convincing her I'm not the man I used to be may be the biggest challenge yet.

Despite my history, I'm determined not to let my past fumble my future.

Fumbled is the first book in the Vegas The Playbook series, which must be listened to in order.

Not for me

Story: ⭐⭐⭐
Trope: single dad, enemies to lovers
Angst: 😱😱
Smexy: 🔥

I didn't know when I started this that it was a multi-book series about the same couple. I have to really love the author to commit to more than a book. Unfortunately, I really struggled the the heroine in the book. She just wasn't very nice and came across as immature and self absorbed . I definitely won't be reading the other books.

Nope.

No real story progression. Like a long excerpt rather than a book.

The only character I liked was the kid and she doesn't get that much page time. She is also, IMHO, treated like a much younger child than she actually is. Our hero's attitude towards women disgusts me. Don't get me wrong - I don't care about how many one night stands anyone has. What I care about is that he instantly thinks about women as tits/ass rather than as people. He's a woe is me character and his pity party at his parents' was so annoying.

Almost as annoying, in fact, as our heroine. She is a pushover and even refers to herself as a doormat. She doesn't even have enough backbone to buy the drink she wants at the cinema. At this point, Owen, dick though he may be, is not the problem. She is the problem. She is terrified it's too late to start again romantically at - wait for it - twenty six. Like - fucking hell, girl, life does exist after thirty! She butts heads with the hero and I don't truly understand why. His cardinal sin is hitting on her for all of about twenty seconds and then continuing to exist. She's honestly pretty bitchy and I hate that word but I can't come up with a better one.

The grammar and syntax are fine. There are some other issues, though. A few examples follow:

- "the women who tend to fall to their feet - or knees, wink, wink - in front of me" Yes, yes, we're all very impressed that this guy is apparently getting plenty of head but how on earth do you fall to your feet?

- The hero books a flight, flies to wherever his parents live, presumably goes through security, and gets a Lyft to their house, all within a couple of hours. Given the flight was 90 minutes away when he booked it, he flew, cleared security and got to their house in half an hour. A little implausible. Yes, I know I'm nitpicking - I can't help myself.

- Speaking of Lyft, did they pay for product placement? I can't imagine why else they are so frequently mentioned.

Fantastic Start to New Series

Travis Woods has it all with a great career in the NFL with the Vegas Aces, friends who have his back and women falling at his feet. That is until one beautiful woman rejects him and he just doesn’t understand how that can happen.

Victoria is a reading specialist at a school and has her best friend at her side who is trying to get Victoria to understand that the man she has been living with is controlling Victoria in every way imaginable.

Back to Travis…Congratulations, It’s a girl!!! Be it a ten-year-old named Harper. Due to a tragedy Travis is named as Harper’s guardian and for a very good reason.

OMG!! The sexual frustration in this book is hotter than hot but its Travis and Victoria’s denial that made this book such a page turner. I can’t recommend this book highly enough and now I wait (im…patiently for the next book in this series.)

This is the second book I’ve read by the author and just like the first, I really enjoyed it and will continue to make my way through her backlist.

You’ll enjoy this book if you like these tropes… ♡

♥ Sports Romance
✿ Single Dad
♥ Undeniable Chemistry
✿ Enemies-to-Lovers
♥ Angsty
✿ Witty Banter
♥ Football Romance
✿ Marriage of Convenience
♥ Forced Proximity
✿ Spicy 🌶️

Fumbled is the first book in the Vegas Aces: The Playbook series and it was everything I never knew I needed. It was a sweet, heartfelt, emotional, quirky, lighthearted, fun and entertaining read and it swept me up off my feet within a couple of chapters and added in the fact that it is my all-time favourite trope… SINGLE DAD *Swoon* it was amazing! I absolutely loved Victoria and Travis. The push and pull between them drove me crazy in the best way. I love enemies-to-lovers. That hate these two had for each other in the beginning made for some intense sexual tension and palpable chemistry!

I am excited to see how this story unfolds! Bring on book two!

5 STARS!

Again, this is going to be five books for this story. Unfortunately I did not realize this. I could read the next four in Kindle Unlimited, but won’t. Why does an author make a story five books? Any takers on the fact that in the next book most of this book is regurgitated? Usually, when an author does this the entire story could have been told in one book, just longer then this one. Maybe this author has enough ‘story’ to go five books, but I doubt it. Very frustrating. The story isn’t that good at this point for four more books….will pass on any more from this author.

🎧🎧AUDIOBOOK REVIEW🎧🎧

I’ve never really been a fan of serial publications mainly because when I read or listen to a story, one of the main criteria I look for is how a story makes me feel overall. I want the author to pull me in as if I was a bystander in the story. Basically, I want to be in it from beginning to end. With serial publications, the minute an instalment ends, I’m pulled from the story to move on to my next book or audiobook. Even if the next instalment comes a week later, which is rare because the norm is more like a couple weeks to a month, my brain still has to push back from the few books I might have read in between to get back in it. *shrug* I don’t like it. BUT GUESS WHAT … (lol)

Me and this serial are gonna get along just fine. I feel it!

Fumbled is the first installment in Travis & Victoria’s journey. I already know just from listening to this little bit of their story that I’m hooked not only on them, but also Lisa Suzanne! I already told you guys serial stories make me twitchy, so it stands to reason you have to be really good to hook me into this format. Lisa just did. I may or may not have already spent a stooped amount of money/credits making sure her previous *series* are ready for me when the time comes for me to binge. Do with that tidbit of information what you will!

This leg of the story is more of an introduction of Travis and the single father circumstance that drops out of the sky into his life like a meteor. I liked how Suzanne wrote this part. It comes across as organic and genuine and it really made me feel good. This is also the introduction of Victoria into their lives, and I liked that just as much. It sets up their chemistry and spark really well and begins to unfold their journey nicely. There’s not really much else to tell you except that my gut tells me Lisa isn’t going to make me #twitchy with dramatics that make my eyes roll so I am really looking forward to getting to installment 2 very soon!!

OH, NARRATION! Lance Greenfield and Callie Dalton made an already enjoyable story a party in my ears for about 5 hours so they're also #winning!! lol

Lisa Suzanne is back at it- this time it's Travis Woods who is getting his life flipped upside down in the Vegas Aces: The Playbook series. It's not necessary to have read any of the other Vegas Aces books in order to enjoy this one, though they are fantastic and give little insights to some of the other characters that are around in the story. But do be aware that this is the first book in a 5 book series following the same storyline so THIS series MUST be read in order and books 1-4 will end in cliffhangers.

The ending in this one? I'm having a mild panic attack having read it- it's a doozy.

Back in Tristan's series (VA: The Wide Receiver) Travis had confided that he had a daughter he never met- but that all came to an end when the mother named him as custodian to the little girl, Harper, should something ever happen to her and her husband. Despite his fears, Travis accepts the responsibility and challenge of taking his daughter and honestly the way these two interact is so sweet and adorable you'd never know that they were essentially strangers.

On the other side of this story though is Victoria Hartley- the reading specialist at Harper's new school and the only woman to turn down Tristan yet somehow still bury under his skin. ALL the tensions burn strong between these two as they ride that thin thin line between hating each other and being unable to desire anything else. So naturally Victoria is the one at school that Harper has formed a connection with- making tensions rise even higher between her and Tristan. Nothing has really happened between these two with the exception of a hot kiss but good lord when they finally cross that line and hate bang or whatever it's gonna be something else.

I'm already on edge with this book. It has a bit of a different feel than some of the other Vegas Aces books- at the moment anyway. Travis' big secret is already out but there are so many new directions of things that could go wrong. Harper's allergy, Victoria's ex, the weird family from back in LA- so many things could pop up and make Travis spiral that I can't wait to get my hands on the next book.

4.5 SINGLE DAD STARS !

Travis is a superstar football player for the Vegas Aces which also allows him to be a superstar playboy off of the field . But when a tragic accident leaves him being the new single dad to Harper, who is in fact his biological daughter, that he has never met .. life takes a huge turn for Travis . Victoria is Harper’s new reading teacher and she has had enough of the grumpy football star who Harper calls dad . But even with all of the tension, dislike and bickering matches these two get in .. they have incredibly explosive chemistry . But will that be enough for everything that is in store for them ?

WOW !!! Lisa always does such an amazing job with all of her series and Travis’ is starting off with such a bang ! And as always Lisa has ended book one with one epic cliffhanger that has left me wanting so much more . I can’t wait to see what happens next in False Start .

This is book one in the Vegas Aces: The Playbook series and it ends on a CLIFFHANGER . This book cannot be read as a complete standalone .

This was my first Lisa Suzanne book and it did not disappoint!! I love a good sports romance and the enemies to lovers in here was top notch, real true hate lol This was also my first single dad story and it was great, something about a bachelor bad boy football player turned single dad overnight does something to me 🥵

The dynamics between the MMC and the FMC were great, that slow burn was everything! Harper, the daughter is such a sweet, likable kid and I can’t begin to imagine her heartbreak. Plus I loved Mandy, she’s the kind of best friend we all need!

This was overall such a sweet story with a little bit of spice, but it doesn’t end here. There’s a small cliffhanger and the second book is called False Start, which I’m about to start.

“It’s a d*mn shame you have a boyfriend, Hartley”
- Lisa Suzanne, Fumbled (Vegas Aces Playbook, Book 1)

ARC Review 📝 But does she? Or is him quickly out of the picture? And does it matter if Travis and Victoria dislike each other so much? Or do they? 😏

Travis’ life drastically changed with one phone call.
Harper’s life drastically changed with one accident.
Victoria’s life changed… not so drastically. But definitely not drama free.

And while everybody is adapting to a new life as a parent, as a parentless-with-new-dad kid, and as a “homeless” single woman, they are also discovering each other. Or better yet, discovering that they can’t really escape each other 😂

This is the first of five books telling Travis and Victorian’s story (and Harper’s) with lots of rep and lots of banter 👏🏼 major extra points for it being football, my favorite IRL sport 😎

What’s inside:
🖤sports romance 🏈
🖤hate to love
🖤single dad
🖤first in a series (not interconnected standalones)
🖤teacher/parent
🖤learning disabilities rep

Fumbled is the first book in the Vegas Aces: The Playbook series. This is my first book by Lisa Suzanne, and I was not disappointed. I am a huge sports romance fan and love reading books that give more information about the characters as I progress through a series. This series follows Travis and Victoria and must be read in order.

Travis is an NFL football player for the Vegas Aces. He is a playboy and is not used to women turning him down. Enter Victoria. While she is at a restaurant picking up dinner, Travis notices her and shoots his shot. Victoria turns him down because she is in a relationship. Travis' life gets turned upside down when he learns the parents of his biological daughter have passed away in an accident. He is now the named guardian of his 10-year-old daughter, Harper, whom he had no knowledge of. As Travis begins to navigate the complexities of his new reality, he enrolls Harper in a school recommended by another player. Turns out Victoria is a reading specialist at Harper's school. When Victoria tries to be an ally to Harper and help with her difficulties with reading, Travis doesn't take Victoria's involvement well. Although Travis and Victoria struggle to communicate properly and work together for Harper's sake, it is clear that something is developing between them.

As this is the first book in the series, the story focuses on the development of Travis and Victoria's relationship. Neither of them is ready to fully admit they are attracted to each other and are sitting in denial. It is still early, and at this point, they've only kissed. When they finally decide to lean into the tension, things will really heat up. This book ends with a cliffhanger, and I'm excited to continue the series to see what happens next.

NARRATION:
This book is narrated by Callie Dalton and Lance Greenfield. Both gave a really good performance and portrayed Victoria and Travis well. This did a great job bringing the characters to life. I could feel the tension they were trying so hard to suppress. I was not a huge fan of Lance's voice at first because I didn't feel he sounded like a playboy NFL player, but he grew on me, and I got used to his voice.

Thanks to Lisa Suzanne and Valentine PR for providing a gifted audiobook copy. Opinions expressed are my own.

This was my first book by Lisa Suzanne, but it won’t be the last. Fumbled is the first book in the Vegas Aces: The Playbook series and cannot be read as a standalone.

Travis Woods is a wide receiver for the Vegas Aces. He’s 28 and living his best life, just playing football and hooking up. In short, he’s a total playboy.

Victoria Hartley is a 26-year-old woman who works as a reading specialist at an elementary school. She’s in a stable relationship with her boyfriend of three years and is focused on her career.

When Travis and Victoria meet, he hits on her and she flat out rejects him. It’s a big hit to his ego because he’s used to women falling all over him. That’s not the worst part of his night though. No, he soon learns that the child he fathered ten years ago and has never met is suddenly going to be in his custody as her parents have passed away.

Travis quickly accepted that he was going to have a child to raise and didn’t even blink at the fact that his whole life was going to change. He quickly bonds with Harper, his daughter, and makes all the arrangements to change his former bachelor pad into a home for her. He also has to learn about her food allergies and her education.

Victoria ends up working closely with Harper when Harper is enrolled at the school Victoria works at. Harper quickly becomes attached to Victoria and trusts her.

Now Travis and Victoria can’t avoid each other and have to be cordial as Harper is involved and her education is the most important thing. They don’t like each other, but they also want each other.

I loved all of the moments between Travis and Harper. He was so sweet with her, and she was adorable and sassy to him, putting him in his place sometimes. As for Travis and Victoria? Well, they definitely had sparks and so much tension. I need to see where their story goes because their frustration with each other is not worked out. Also, the cliffhanger has me anxious for the next book.

Fumbled (Vegas Aces: The Playbook Book 1) by Lisa Suzanne
Review
4⭐️

This is the first book in the Vegas Aces Series that I read as an ARC, and it just left me wanting MORE!
Travis' world is flipped upside down when the daughter he fathered 10 years ago during an affair, the daughter he watched grow up from a distance, the daughter he hasn't ever met, comes crashing into his world with her prized dinocorns and allergy to his favorite food.

You can't help but fall in love with Harper, and the relationship we get to watch grow between her and her dad, Travis.

Victoria is a beautiful woman, who turns Travis down one night at a bar, and has no idea how important Travis would become in her life, and that her role in his life isn't what she originally fantasized.

I cannot wait to see where this relationship between Travis, Harper, and Victoria ends up going!

What a great book!

This was my first by Lisa and I really enjoyed it.

I found myself rooting for the characters right from the beginning and I can't wait to continue this series.

I related to the FMC in a lot of different ways (toxic ex & working with children) and I loved the character development in the MMC in such a short time.

You get:
• Contemporary Romance
• Sports Romance
• Dual POV
• Spicy
• Unexpected Child
• Forbidden Love
• Teacher/Parent

What an emotional roller coaster of a story. Life stops you dead in your tracks sometimes, and makes you really think about some hard decisions. Then throw in seeing some of your own life events thru the eyes of another. Be sure to grab the next book in this series. You'll definitely want to keep reading about these awesome and unique characters.

This book reminds me of The Game Plan move with the Rock. I mean a few differences on how they get their daughters- but still through death of a parent. They both play football. Both get like a 10 year old daughter. Both have peanut allergies. The female is a teacher in the new kids life. Irks me at how unoriginal that part of the story is. Hence the the low stars.

The reason is still gets three is because if I didn’t know any of that, it still a good story. For the most part. He is great. Kind of a big turn around, but is handling everything as well as he can considering. But man! Female MC is just nasty. Like what a bitch- and for what? Like she has no reason to be. Hopefully she turns around a bit in the next books or I don’t think I can finish the series- which is a shame since these Vegas Aces books are like a guilty little pleasure.

I’m desperately fumbling through this Audiobook that’s about a guy that’s been struggling through life but ended up becoming a famous footballer whose life is turned upside down when he suddenly became a Dad .
This book was narrated by two narrators new to me who did a good job bringing all the characters to life in this story .

Ok let’s get into this one.

Travis
Growing up and feeling and believing he had no care love or attention from his parents, Travis surely didn’t want the same for the Ten year old little girl who is his biological daughter. This happened with his first crush who was 15 yrs older than him, one who to me had seduced a young Travis, used him and then had him gave up any rights when she got pregnant.
But he didn’t want his daughter going to foster care or going through the same things he did although he has no clue to parenting when football was his primary focus and his life . But he was willing to try no matter how scared he was. Right about now Travis is wishing that this kid comes with a hand book!
But his life is about to change as he fall irreversible and unconditionally in love with this little girl!
A little girl who has inherited his reading disorder.
Despite all that he was determined to keep her and become the best dad ever.

Victoria
Being in a relationship with someone who doesn’t seem to have any true intentions towards her .. her Ex seems to be controlling and lacking in the boyfriend department..
but Victoria seems to be making excuses for bad behavior but then decides no more .
She wanted kids he doesn’t.. she expected more but Lordy this Ex was something else!
This man was really disgusting and treated Victoria poorly.
But despite her betterment this girl stuck it out to the bitter end.. and that’s when she learn the hard way just how despicable her ex is .
But J.C! I truly struggled to connect with this girl ..
which I don’t know if it’s me but yeah .. this girl .

Anyway.
I’m so in love with little Harper .. such a sweet girl who despite her her tragic circumstances showed so much character for a little girl whose life will never be the same but who blindly trust this man she had never met but felt some kinship with!

But omg,it’s the most wonderful thing listening to how Harper and Travis navigate through their circumstances and become more comfortable around each other, but Travis .. the way how he jumps in head first into becoming the dad Harper needed is so sweet admirable and adorable .
But of course this wouldn’t be an easy task as there is struggle and trouble brewing for the newly found Father and Daughter!

But listen .. when Travis met Victoria again I was literally turned off by the way she acted and the things this girl said and assumed about a single dad who’s going through so much .. one would have thought with how mean her ex treated her she would have been kind and sweet towards a stranger.
I really am beginning to not like this girl at all !
For whatever reason Victoria is really mean, a complete B$tch towards Travis. I just couldn’t believe why she’d be so mean and nasty especially when she’s been treated like that by her ex.

But I should have known better, just when I thought this audiobook was coming to a head, Lisa Suzanne hit me upside the head with a cliffhanger!
So yeah .. I’m left seething over this book!

I think I’m in love with another man…Travis Woods, the NFL player with the sweetest daughter on earth…he’s the male protagonist in the novel: Fumbled by Lisa Suzanne, and he is HOT, and sweet, and tough, and oh, so HOT!! This novel starts Ms. Suzanne’s first of five books in The Playbook Series for the Vegas Aces Pro football team and, fair warning…ends in a cliffhanger that had me screaming loud enough for my family members to come running to see what was wrong! NEVER saw that one coming…! I am ashamed to say that this is the first novel I have read by Ms. Suzanne, and I am going to be very busy reading as many of her books as I can get my little hands on, which I am beyond happy will be quite a few! I absolutely LOVED Fumbled and the people who populated this incredible and amazing story. My heart was so deeply touched in so many relatable ways that I could not put it down once I started reading. Ms. Suzanne is a clever and skilled master at the art of writing from the way she juxtaposed so many meaningful events that occur in a young man’s life against his parents, their friends, and other characters’ handling of these same issues that deal with being a “good” and “involved” parent, being the “perfect” child, abandonment, death and loss, giving up one of a person’s greatest pleasures in life to care for and keep a loved one safe, and adjusting to life when our dreams no longer serve us or we cannot change our circumstances at the time. Most profound in this novel were three lessons the characters taught me about: 1. the many different ways that people learn and the handicap created by education systems that only recognize one manner of learning and label a child as “disabled” if their way of learning is different; 2. unconditional love; and, 3. the existence of physical attraction that completely steals the ability to think and reason from a person’s brain! The descriptions and scenes Ms. Suzanne created were powerful and infused with emotions and feelings that crossed the pages and flew into my heart! I cried with Harper’s loss and loneliness, and Travis’ frustration and shame, and when Travis pinned Victoria to the wall, I gasped out loud because it literally took my breath away! Since I already confessed to screaming when I read the last page, I don’t think I need to say that I am anxiously awaiting False Start to learn what happens next…! Run to buy this book NOW!

Fumbled is the first book in Lisa Suzanne's Vegas Aces: The Playbook series and is the start of Travis, Victoria and Harper's story.
Travis Woods is a wide receiver for the Vegas Aces and he is your typical NFL player, so when the beautiful blonde at the bar turns him down he couldn't be more shocked! But when he finds out on the same night that his little girl has tragically lost both of her parents he doesn't have time to dwell on his rejection, he needs to step up and be the father Harper needs even though he's never even met his daughter.
Travis has no idea how to be a dad or what to do with a ten year old, especially one who's grieving the loss of her parents but he is willing to learn, this little girl's world has been turned upside down and he's all she has left, so he needs to set his feelings aside and be there for her, whatever that might entail.
So when he drops Harper off for her first day at school and finds out the girl from the bar works at the school and will be working closely with Harper, Travis jumps to the wrong conclusion and presumes she's there just for him! Which sets them off on the wrong foot and the initial attraction they felt that night turning into strong dislike maybe even hatred for each other.
But Harper is opening up to Victoria, she's becoming a safe and trusted person for Harper which Travis doesn't like, but he knows his little girl needs people she can trust in her new life. But that doesn't mean the sparks have stopped flying between them, they may not like each other very much right now but they cannot deny their body's reaction when they're around each other.
"If an adult female is making her feel safe, I should help build on that rather than resent it. But I have such conflicting feelings every time Victoria Hartley is involved in the conversation that I can't seem to stop myself."
Can Travis and Victoria carry on ignoring the attraction between them or will the sparks between them become too hard to ignore?
Read Fumbled now to find out!
I really enjoyed Fumbled, I could not put it down and I'm so excited for the next books in this addictive series featuring these incredible characters. The thing I really love about the Vegas Aces series' is getting to revisit with the previous couples and seeing where they are now which adds another layer of enjoyment for me, I just love these characters!
I received an arc of Fumbled and I am voluntarily leaving my review.

What a fabulous audiobook.
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this story about Travis and Victoria it really warmed my heart.
Narrated brilliantly by Callie Dalton and Lance Greenfield, they were both excellent at reading this book and portraying the characters in this book...Their voices were easy to listen too clear and expressive,I loved hearing them both read me this book.
This is an amazing ,emotional and sweet romance.
Travis is an superstar NFL player,he is known for being a bit of a ladies man and can have any woman he wanted...Except one woman who rejects his advances and he is instantly inrigued by her...But Travis's life is about to be turned upside down when he is the legal guardian of a 10 year old girl Harper, when her parents die unexpectedly.
Victoria is in a relationship with a controlling man she doesn't realise that he is controlling until her best friend points it out to her.The relationship is all one sided..his side everything revolves around him...it is only a matter of time before she has had enough.
Victoria helps students enhance their reading skills and she loves her job,a new student Harper is grieving and she realises that her Father is the NFL player that she refused a date with.
Through Harper Travis and Victoria are in eachothers lives and the chemistry between them is electrifying. The banter between them is excellent and they never seem to agree on anything, but their attraction is undeniable.
Travis changes so much in this story and it was a joy to see him change from a manwhore to a doting father...Harper is adorable and funny and she changes his life in the best way.
I also loved how all of Travis's team mates support Travis and Harper and will do anything to help them both adjust to their new life together.
Victoria changes too her thoughts about Travis changes and she sees another side to him that not many people see.
I loved listening to this book it is the first installment in a new series from Lisa Suzanne and I know I am going to love it.
Lisa Suzanne has written a phenomenal sports romance that will have you hooked from the start, listening to this Audiobook was a delight to hear. The narrators enhanced the story by making it come alive in a way you can't by reading it yourself.
I was entertained and emotional and amused in equal measure.
This is a great sports romance and I highly recommend it.
Superb.

Fumbled is the first book in the Vegas Aces: The Playbook series. This is Travis and Victoria's story. Victoria has been in a relationship with Owen for 3 years and wants what her sister has, which is  kids and a loving partner .
When Travis and Victoria meet,he is used to women falling at his feet and when his charm gets her to  flat out reject him his ego is hurt. But there is chemersery felt for both Travis and Victoria's. Later the same evening  his parents kept calling his phone and he let it go to voicemail. Hedoen't want to talk to them he has always felt like he wasn't wanted by them because they sent his off to boarding school when he was 12 years old. he has never gone back home. he reflects back to the night his mom's best friend seduces him just before he leaves for college and she later tells him he fathered a daughter and she doesn't want him in the girls life. (her husband) couldn't have kids and she wanted one, so she used  18 yr old Travis for that. Travis flies home to go to the funeral and to meet his  10 year old daughter Harper.
Travis quickly accepted that he was going to have a child to raise and didn’t even blink at the fact that his whole life was going to change. He quickly bonds with Harper, he takes her back to Vegas and finds out how much support he has from his teammates and their families. Travis gets Harper  enrolled in the same school his teammate has a daughter Harper's age goes to. Victoria just happens to work at this school as a reading specialist. On Harper's first day Victoria is surprised to see Travis again and that he has a daughter.
As Victoria shows them around the school she takes them to Mandy's (her best friend) classroom. as Travis talks with Mandy, Victoria notices things about how Harper avoids reading the welcome card she gets and the way she holds a pencil that is usually how a young child would. Travis and Victoria get in a heated argument about his choice of women he goes for. Travis decides he doesn't like Victoria and is glad she isn't Harper's teacher. . Victoria tests Harper as she is a new student and learns she has a problem reading. Now Travis and Victoria can't avoid each other. I can't wait for the next book , another great story Lisa.
I received an advanced review copy for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily.

Fans of Lisa's Vegas Aces series have already met Travis Woods, the teammate and best friend of Tristan Higgins, and we also know about the child he fathered with the older woman next door (aka his mother's best friend) but with whom he has had no contact. This storyline is also referenced in the fifth book of Cooper's story in the first set of Vegas Heat books, so Lisa Suzanne fans are definitely ready for this story! However, I have to say that for me, Travis's and Harper's (oh, and Victoria's! 😊) story strikes a definite cord with me for reasons that have little to do with romance or football. The signs are in place early on that both Travis and Harper have learning disabilities - Lisa's background as a former English teacher is in play here - and as the wife of someone with dyslexia and the mother of a neurodivergent daughter as well as a veteran high school English teacher myself (and one who has taught numerous inclusion classes with students on IEPs), this story has all the feels for me. I've dealt with kids (some grown ones, too) who felt less than intelligent because they struggled to learn the way others did. . . I've dealt with parents who felt that mentioning that their children had a possible learning disability meant suggesting that those children were "less than." Both Travis's and Harper's reactions to their situations are spot-on, and Victoria (who is struggling with her own conflicting feels where Travis is concerned) comes across so realistically as the teacher who wants to do more to help "her kids" succeed. (The one thing I kept wanting her to say point blank, and this is true: more often than not, people with learning disabilities have above average intelligence. However, because of the disability, the "smart" may not always be obvious in the classroom until they are taught strategies to help them learn differently.)

Oh, and for those of you for whom the whole romance/football thing is why you're considering reading the book? Loads of chemistry between Victoria and Travis. . . both are still on the love/hate fence at this point, and we have the pieces in place to see it knocked completely over the fence very soon. And in the tradition of Lisa villains. . . we have Owen, who no doubt is going to cause far more trouble before we get to the end of Book 5.
