The story is about two sisters, two twins who don't look like one another.

Mel returns from Australia after her 20-year marriage ends to find her sister Abbie behaving strangely. They didn't see one another for four years when Mel came to their parents' funerals after a car accident, but Abbie seems dramatically changed. Mel is astonished that Abbie put their family house for sale without consulting her. The more she looks into Abbie's life, the more secrets come to life.

The story has a slow beginning and, strangely, Mel didn't see sooner that something was wrong with Abbie. The book gets a bit more alive closer to the end, but the end itself seems unfinished.

After her 20-year marriage dissolves, Mel moves back to her hometown with her twin sister, Abbie. It's been a while, but Abbie seems to have changed. She used to be happy, carefree, but these days she seems to be moody, secretive.

Home is supposed to be your safe place ... but Mel is finding it anything but.

This was a slow starter, with some twists and turns that aren't so shocking. I didn't particularly like the relationship between the sisters, they were a bit under-developed. This was an okay read, although I had expected more from this author.

Many thanks to the author / Inkubator Books / Netgalley for the digital copy of this psychological drama. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

This was a fascinating book with lots of twists and turns. It kept my interest all the way through even though parts of it were a bit farfetched. I expect there will be a follow up as the ending leaves you wondering what will happen next. A good read.

Thank you Netgalley, Inkubator Books, and Lorna Dounaeva for this ARC.

I nearly put this book down at first as it was so slow and boring. When we finally meet Abbie, things start to get a little more interesting. She is far from the sister Mel remembers her to be. The story doesn't really pick up until about 60% through. Secrets revealed, the heat turns up, twists in the story begin to unfold.

The final twist was a doozy I did not see coming. It felt a little abrupt and rushed, but it was jaw dropping.

The writing was easy to read. But the book bored me to death! For half the book it was just going around in circle and the author was trying to hide the details but it felt like she just forgot to write it. Wasn’t a page turner for me to want to find out what wrong. When it got to the punch line that was it! 5 seconds of joy and back to boredom! I didn’t feel any excitement on the twists and turns sorry this book didn’t do anything for me

The Wrong Twin is told from Mel’s point of view. She’s running from a marriage she isn’t happy in, back to her home in the UK and her twin sister Abbie. Abbie has been acting off, and Mel can’t seem to figure out what is going on with her. As the story unfolds, Mel learns there have been so many changes happening while she’s been gone that she can barely keep up.

I’ve read all of Dounaeva’s books, and this one felt different from her other books. I didn’t really care for Mel. It was hard to deal with the fact that she was so incredibly clueless. I didn’t care for how she let Abbie control her, and the same goes for her ex, Peter. He keeps pushing this narrative that Mel is ill when there are absolutely no signs of it. It didn’t make sense and felt forced. Overall, this was a mixed bag for me, with some highs and lows. It definitely felt different from her other works. I encourage others to give it a read.

I love stories about twins! This one is easy to read and easy to follow. The plot line is Mel, our main character, moves back to the UK from Australia when her marriage falls apart. She moves back into the family home with her twin sister who has dramatically altered in personality. Where she was once happy and outgoing, she is now gloomy and hostile. Maybe it’s because she’s carrying some dark secrets. And why is there a mysterious man following her? Mel may have left trouble behind in Australia but she has encountered something much more sinister in her childhood home. I found this to be quite a slow burn for the first half but the creepy vibe picks up in the last 40% and while the ending is very unexpected, it is a bit rushed. The story of Abbie and Mel, 2 twins, who return to live together due to life circumstances after a life apart.
Mel has just moved into the family home after leaving her husband of 20 years in Australia.
When she gets home she begins to notice strange things about her sister but she blames it on the fact that they haven't seen each other for a long time.
Until Cyrus appears, a mysterious man who makes her suspect that her sister is not who she thought.
Not bad but the twist although it is curious, it is not that it has left me perplexed. I have been missing more tension in this thriller.

Thank you Netgalley and Inkubator Books for the eARC.
Mel, after 20 years, has left her husband and Australia to return to her original home in England, where her twin Abbie still lives. But the the homecoming is not as expected: her sister is not the same; she's distant, neglects her supposedly beloved dog, Otto, and is no longer the outgoing person she used to be. Mel's uneasy and confused. Terrified after a stranger breaks into her home, her life seems to spiral out of control.
I got frustrated with some of the decisions she made and felt so sorry for poor Otto. But she redeemed herself by finally fighting for herself and her new life. It's a gripping read and I didn't see the final truth about Abbie coming, quite the
surprise. The end of the book had me dropping my jaw, whoa! I hope there will be a follow-up, I'd like to know how life turns out for Mel and Otto.
Definitely recommended.

It's been 20 years and Mel left her life and husband in Australia and returned home to England to live with her twin sister Abbie. But her happiness at being home is short lived; her sister who used to be outgoing is now distant and uncaring.
With Abbie's mysterious behaviour Mel is spooked out and when someone breaks into the house it seems like everything around her is under attack. It is up to Mel to figure out what is happening with her beloved sister and how to get her life back on track.

The plot of this story is what drove me into picking this NetGalley read and I am sad to say I was disappointed.
The characters were blank, the storyline was dragging and about 50% of the beginning of the book is just the everyday life of the twins. By then I already lost the hope to actually enjoy the characters. At least there is some action after that. There are quite a few twists but it felt like they were just piling up to make a big end.
What surprised me was the epilogue. I can see it working if there is gonna be a second book but it didn't feel like a satisfying end. Although it did make me feel something, which is more than the rest of the book did.

Okay, if you want a quick summary of this book, i'd tell you:
The book started so weakly, the lead character, Mel, was so lame and pushover to a fault, there wasn't much happening in the first 50% of the book, it was literally just the everyday life of Mel and her strange sister.
The story starts to get some volume in the next half, secrets are slowly getting revealed, and finally, we get some action.
But to be honest, the twist wasn't that powerful, it was so underwhelming, and after the first twist is up the book just went on poorly, it felt like it was done just to be submitted before a deadline.
Didn't like it at all.

Not So Good (SPOILER ALERT)

The first half was boring, but I must say that it gained momentum in the second half. It's hard to like a story when you don't care for the main character. Mel was too passive and just let people walk all over her. The story was vague on why she left her husband and she was immature in how she handled it. The cheating with a complete stranger that she brought into her home, in their bed so that her husband could catch her in the act was so childish and ridiculous and it spoke to her character. It sometimes seems to me that authors go too far to create shock value and it sometimes backfires and lessens the story as a whole. Well developed characters also make for a stronger story and this didn't have one. Welp...on to the next one...

I found the book somewhat underwhelming. It is a very slow burner, with not a lot happening at all in the first half. It does start to pick up some pace in the second half. Secrets are revealed and there is a big twist at the end. Worth a read but the slow beginning almost stopped me from carrying on with it.

Read Full & Detailed review: https://cynthology.blogspot.com/2021/...

Mel is returning home to England. Her marriage of 20 years with husband Peter in Australia has broken down and she intends to file for divorce. The marriage has succumbed to lack of effort on the part of both. Also, Peter’s patronizing attitude and his know-it-all behaviour has begun to grate on her nerves and she wants out.
But home, she realizes, is different. With the death of their parents seven years ago, twin sister Abbie, is all she has, but her sister, once outgoing, friendly and fashionable, is now hostile, with completely different TV viewing and eating habits and a whole new personality. Then there is a strange man who breaks into the house when Mel is alone and follows her around town.
It appears that Mel’s happy homecoming is crumbling around her. Soon she finds out that she has far more to worry about than Peter’s behaviour and Abbie’s odd moodiness.

The title of the book was perfect. The book cleverly brings out the old nature versus nurture debate.
The Prologue lets us in on the murder of a girl, and the manner in which her body is disposed of, never to be found again.
The narrative brings scenes to life. The descriptions bring to us just the right mix of action and setting to guide us along.

The author doesn’t let Mel think about her marriage much. This lack of information caused me to think, at first, that Mel had made a hasty decision, but once Peter arrived on the scene, we see what she finds troubling about his attitude, and it causes us to warm slightly more towards her. We see a display of his attitude when he tells the security guard at a hotel where he is staying, “I’ll deal with her.”
For nearly three-fifths of the book, I neither liked nor disliked Mel. I felt indifferent towards her. There was just too much information about her work, the shopping she did for the house and other by-the-way stuff. It was only when the pace of the novel picked up that I felt the slightest feeling of concern towards her.

The pace of the novel was slow, with not much happening. The only thing that the author drives on relentlessly about is a game known as The Artful Assassin whose bugs Mel, a game developer, is trying hard to fix.
I rarely give up on a book and so I plodded on. The reward came at the 69 percent mark, which is way too late. Most readers don’t have that kind of patience.
What made the action sweeter was that it was on the lines of something that I had suspected all along. But the manner in which it was executed still took me by surprise. The mystery, though late to come by, was a good one. The unexpected twist at the end of the book left me wanting more. I hope the author will write a Book 2 to let us in on what happens next.
The bugs in The Artful Assassin haven’t been fixed yet. And perhaps that marriage could do with some fixing too.

The Wrong Twin
by Lorna Dounaeva
Mystery/Thriller
Released on Amazon 6/13/21

When I saw the description of this book I thought it would be an awesome read! I was quite disappointed however when I started reading it.

The story telling fell flat for me. It is super slow with nothing much going on until about 60% into the book. Then at about 73% I had figured out the rest of it and only continued to read to make sure I was right! (To be fair to the author, I do read quite a few thrillers and am pretty good at those logic puzzles... so other people honestly would probably be pleasantly surprised at the twist! ❤😘)

I struggled with this one for a few reasons... the slow start and predictable plot but also because it lacked character development in my opinion. I didnt feel like I was given the chance to connect to them and so felt detached from the story. Honestly... all the characters actually got on my nerves and frustrated me 😂 .

I would recommend this book if you:
- are a twin or like reading about twins
- don't mind a slow burn
- enjoy drama
- are not a reader who likes to get emotionally attached
- are looking for a quick easy read

I liked the basic premise of the story, however, I was left with too many questions at the end. One of the subjects that I had questions was actually brought up at the very end of the book, which I find a very questionable. Some of the other actions by the antagonist just were not at all answered after being presented. In all, leaving a book with many unanswered questions is not a book that I am fond of. The man of the family that drowned, how did the antagonist find out about him and where he was? Why was he killed? We found out that he was dead, but never heard any thoughts from the killer? Was it her that killed him. If the ship just sunk and all of the people were killed, how did the antagonist end up with the mother/wife's necklace. The sister that was killed, why did she just not take her weight belt off? At the end we are left with the feeling that the antagonists' parents knew all about her actions, turned out that they were going to try to run a scam on the remaining victim, we DO get the feeling that she probably figured out what was going on with the parents and their future scam, BUT since she had some kind of not too bright moments, how did she handle it IF she did handle the situation, if indeed she handled the situation, or did she become a victim all over again? The reader was only involved in the last action in the book, not all of the actions in the book that led up to the action at the end. I also found that the lack of conversation between two 'sisters' was just insane, (the heroine?) just swallowing everything that her 'twin' did without questioning or discussing any of it, comes off as not the way a 40 something year old would deal with the situation. I was generous with 3 stars!

If you guys have ever watched Parent Trap, this is a knock off thriller version. This book could have been at least 50 or more pages shorter.

In fact, to take a moment even the ending had me like 🤨 what is this?

Seriously, it already took a solid 15 chapters for it to get good. To even get something to captivate you. 🌝 My goodness, this was a slow burn that gave me an itch I couldn't scratch.😒

I don't in anyway approve or condone what Mel did to Peter. I do not care if you want a way out a relationship, that was horrible in every way. The longer the book went it on it was like okay I see why you might have disliked the relationship but did it really call for allat?

😃😃😃

I'm sorry but I'm still on the fact that it took so long to get to the meat of the issue. Goddamnit, we don't even know if she finished her video game. There was a fade to black scene that had me stunned, because I didn't expect it. I mean I was already suffering from the insufferable build, could have given me a little spice to keep me from losing it.

Let me also had, by the second chapter or so I knew something was wrong with the twin. I wasn't the least bit surprised by the plot twist and I expected more, I wanted more. 🥲

If this book was shorter and to the point maybe I wouldn't be so butt hurt about losing three hours. LET'S ALL REMEMBER THIS BOOK IS IN THIRD PERSON!!! ✋🏽 At one point I started skimming ahead because I was bored out of mind but at least I finished it. 😮‍💨

When Mel leaves her husband of 20 years in Australia, she returns to England to stay with her twin Abby in their family home. They used to be so close but now Abby has changed so much. She used to be happy and outgoing and now she's hostile and grumpy. Mel can't understand the changes and when a sinister stranger starts following her she's more terrified than ever.
This book started out slow but soon the twists and creepy vibe caught me. The ending was unexpected but seemed a little rushed and throughout the book, I didn't really like or connect with any of the characters.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Mel is a game developer, married and living in Australia while her twin Abbie lives in England and runs a tour/fishing boat business.

Mel is unhappy in her marriage, has an affair and runs away from husband Peter, back to England with the intent of not returning to Australia or Peter.

Something is weird about Abbie - the house they grew up in has changed, their father's harp is missing, rooms have been repainted, Abbie has a dog named Otto that she doesn't take care of and Abbie's personality is flat out different. No more party girl, social girl, she spends her time in front of the TV watching horse, racing, car racing at a loud volume.

What's going on?

This is the third book that I read by Lorna Douaneva and I really like her writing style. This book is no different, it has a lot of action, mystery, reflections on life and relationships, and the relentless search for the truth. It is fast-paced, full of action, and gets you hooked from the beginning. Very good entertainment!

First time reading this author

I love a good thriller, the creepier the better. Didn't know what to expect as it's my first book from this author. Wasn't disappointed and found it very easy to read and follow. Very unexpected outcome and didn't want to put down.
I live in Weymouth and would have liked the setting to be a bit more factual. When describing areas it didn't quite fit, apart from the gaudy red, blue and gold clock, that made me chuckle!!

Not bad...
Abbie was weird from the beginning, and the peach shampoo was the hint that confirmed my suspicions. The big reveal was logicial, not some weird plot to fit the mystery.

I just couldnt understand how the vilain knew about some of the childhood memories.
Also, did Mel ever get to fix the bug in her game lol?
Poor Peter, he was condescending but I was hoping a better ending for them, not that weird ending with Joy and Kev -_-

This book is fine - that's about all I have to say about it.

The characters were bland, the storyline was predictable, and the ending was completely dissatisfying.
I would understand if Dounaeva was attempting to enable the possibility of a sequel - but realistically, due to the lack of character development, this novel probably works better as a standalone.

It was an easy read and the dog was likeable, but those are the only positives I can think of.

Although this was easy to read and I read it within 2 days, it never really did it for me.

The pace of the story seemed to be the same most of the way through, although it ramped up towards the end and the reason for the book title suddenly became clear.

I loved the ending though!

Mel moved into her family home thanks to her life taking a wrong turn. Her twin also happens to be there. As she is regrouping though she notices Abbie isn't ok it would seem even alot off. She now has a puzzle to figure out it would seem. She is also being followed so by now we are roped into this one good and tight. As we turn the pages it becomes a terror gulping down until the end.

The Wrong Twin. by Lorna Dounaeva.
My thoughts of this book when I had read the write up about it was so different to what it actually was when I finished it! It seem to start out as I thought to suddenly going in a completely direction … I found it to be very intriguing…
Mel has lived in Australia for quite a while with her husband … her twin sister Abby has been living in the old family in the UK which they had inherited after their parents death. After a break up with her husband Mel moves back to the UK to live with Abby in the house …. A few strange things happen that starts to make Mel think things are not right … but what is going on!
You must read to find out … the book will intrigue you right to the end!

The plot was a little too unbelievable and Mel’s reactions and conclusions were just....odd at times. I won’t give it away but, she sneaks around and then just taps her on the shoulder??? The book was very predictable, but to be fair, I finished it and I don’t finish books I’m not at least kind of enjoying. It did redeem itself with the very ending a little bit- though I still saw that coming.

Just what I look for in this genre; the story kept me off balance, wondering where it heading. DO we have a totally unreliable narrator here? I thought the reveal about Abbie was clever but felt it should have been a bit more detailed with the presentation being more than just a few paragraphs. Loved the final chapter. Dark, just how I like it.
