Keely Flynn, founder of Lollygag Blog, recounts the bumpy transition from a carefree twentysomething to that of a card-carrying grownup- all in the space of one year. From buying a broken-down foreclosure to (surprise!) a new baby in the first year of marriage, life comes fast and hilarious as Flynn navigates the joys, pitfalls, and taco cravings that go hand-in-hand with parenthood, homeownership, and some semblance of adulthood.
I breezed through this book, because it was an easy, fun read. Keely shares her year of ups and downs of first-time home ownership coupled (and compounded by) a first pregnancy, in a funny, self-deprecating and witty way. To the point where I want to hug her, and simultaneously shout, "NO! Don't be a fool, don't buy that ramshackle house!" But buy the house they did, and what ensued, would bring anyone to their knees in tears AND laughter. If anyone can survive fixing up a house while breaking down with grace and wit, it's Keely Flynn. A do-not-miss-read.
I must be a happy crier because I laughed, cried and snorted my way through this book. Perhaps it was my own experience of MAJOR house renovations while following two young kids and a toddler who could only crawl through plaster dust and then suck his fingers. Perhaps it was because the author was so darn likeable, but I really enjoyed this book from start to finish.
A lovely, laugh-out-loud book about simultaneously becoming a parent and the homeowner of a major fixer-upper. Loved it! A completely delicious treat of a book.
