Lights Out #2

After the Noise: Lights Out, Book 2

Rate this book
In the aftermath of the destruction, Shaun finds himself trapped by the winter.

With little other choice, he joins a group of survivors doing the best they can. His idea of "best" isn’t always shared by the group, though. But before the weather breaks, when he wants to resume his journey, they all face conflict.

Miles away, doing the best that she can, Abbie is adapting to life without power; her own situation is far from ideal.

After the sound of the falling bombs fade, as the dark world they live in tries to recover, they have to find a way to adapt to their new reality.

Devon is from the UK, having lived in many places until finally settling in the Midlands. His career in public services started in his teens and has provided a wealth of experiences, both good and some very bad, which form the basis of the book ideas that cause regular insomnia.

He first started reading for fun as an adult, having tried his hardest to avoid anything resembling academia growing up, and at that point the world became a far bigger place. He has been reading, at least one book at a time, ever since.

His debut works, the After It Happened series, (Survival, Humanity, Society) were published in April 2016 followed by Hope (July 2016) and Sanctuary (December 2016). The first part of the series concluded with the release of Rebellion which was published in June 2017.

Storming high into the charts with the first books of the After It Happened series, Devon launched into the top 10 sellers listings in the UK, Australia, Canada and the US, and he made the decision to write full time shortly after the launch of Hope.

Devon’s self-published beginnings caused a stir in the publishing world, and resulted in contracts with Podium Publishing for Audible, narrated by R.C. Bray (The Martian, Expeditionary Force, Arisen), before a publishing deal for kindle and paperbacks with Vulpine Press.

Further works have seen the start of a multi-author series, sci-fi/post-apocalyptic cross genre, futuristic dystopian and alternative history zombie apocalypse. Spin-off books from the After It Happened world have been announced for 2018.

Looking forward to Part 3

Devon Ford is a master story teller in the post-apocalyptic genre, and this story is up to his standards. With the primary characters being scattered in a most challenging set of conditions, I have found Mr. Ford's stories keeping me wanting to read straight through, but doing it slowly to catch the richness of the tale.

Nice to read something in this genre not American

Overall a good read, though I struggle with the stupid in some characters, even the main ones. It’s great to read something not set in the US where every character has an AR15.

Great book

A great follow on I can't wait for the third edition. Slow burning action throughout with story lines that are believable and characters that are real and understandably.

A brilliant follow on from book 1, I thoroughly enjoyed the second instalment of Abbie, Shaun and Lydia’s end of the World Adventure. It’s the kind of book you struggle to put down, with plenty of drama and suspense, and a thought provoking storyline that makes you wonder … what would you do? How would you behave? How would you change? During a night of insomnia I actually found myself reflecting this :-D

Thrilled that the author must have found a new editor ;-)

This is another thrilling story in the series. Love the main characters, Shaun, Abbie, Lydia and Chunk the dog, very likeable even with all their faults. Each chapter is engrossing and before you know it, you've come to the end. I really can't wait for the next book to come out to see where it's all heading.

It just gets more and more suspenseful

Book 2 of this excellent series has held me captivated. I am hoping for some happy reunification. The world is in a mess, no doubt, but a bit of a happy and hopeful ending is pulling me into reading the final book of this exciting series immediately. Cannot wait to find other books by Mr. Ford. He is an excellent writer, i assure you.

The continuation into Book 2 also pulled me into the story, with a well paced, action induced plot and well versed interactions with the characters. I enjoy books that create a decent connection to the main characters and Devon didn't fail.

3.25/5 - audiobook

Not as engaging as the first installation, but still some great development and character moments.

The distraction of endless errors which should have been caught by a proofreader rather spoils what could be a really good read.
