Callisto Carvanis: And A Legacy Was Born

Copyright 2015 Shakuita Johnson

Coming Dec 2015

Prologue

580 AD

Reagan Carvanis looked at the babe in her arms and couldn't help but fall in love. This was the one--she was absolutely positive. The spawn before her were human, but she was more Mystic than the others. This one would help Reagan exact her revenge. She would mold the child to be cold, calculating, and most of all, ruthless like her brethren. What those Mystic bastards didn't realize was that on the day they forced Reagan out of her home, they also made an enemy of her. She wasn't the only one who felt this way, either. Everyone who was chosen that day decided that they would make their own mission. It was a mission that comprised of helping The Mooyer Society take out as many of those heartless bastards as possible.
As Reagan worked herself up with thoughts of revenge, the baby's soft cooing brought her back to the present. Yes, her baby girl. The one that would strike fear into countless hearts. She had a great destiny in mind for this little girl. Even though Reagan possessed little Mystic powers, she had enough, and so would her little girl. The newborn needed a name, one that would strike fear into all those who knew it. One that would be said in hushed whispers for centuries to come, even when she was long dead. She needed to think... Maria? No, too plain. Jeanette? Never! Esmeralda? Ha! She laughed at herself for that one. Then it hit her. Callisto Carvanis! She didn't understand why she hadn't thought of it sooner. It was perfection. It meant 'most beautiful' and there was a rich mythology behind it that her little girl would do proud. Reagan would make sure of it.
Suddenly her husband rushed in. He had missed their daughter's birth on account of his scouting mission with the Mooyers. Reagan understood completely. He was the current Carvanis Legacy Head of The Mooyer Society and was called away for business. She couldn't have been happier with the husband she had chosen. Caden Carvanis was everything she could ever hope for in a partner. He was brutal, vicious, cold, and vindictive--all traits that any Mystic would love, whether 'pure blood' or not. Her only wish was that she could share everything with him. As it was, she could never tell him of her mixed blood or he would kill her and the children. Even with her hatred for her own kind, Caden would not understand. He despised all things not human. Well, he hated humans, too, and that was what Reagan liked most about him. But paranormal creatures had as much right to be in the world as anyone else.
Her thoughts were interrupted by her husband's voice.
"Well, how is she? Are you all right?" Caden asked in that gruff voice of his.
"Of course, dear. Come. Take a look at our daughter. Callisto Carvanis," Reagan stated proudly.
Caden lifted an eyebrow and looked at her with a small smirk on his lips.
"You have a thing for Greek tales, amica mea? You do know the legends behind the name?" Caden asked, amused.
It was Reagan's turn to smirk.
"Why do you think I gave her such a name? She will be revered for centuries and her name will go down in the history books. She will outshine even the brightest star, our little Callisto."
Caden gave out a gruff laugh.
"Whatever makes you happy. Let me hold her before I have to leave again. There is much to do in this war we fight every day. We will not be on the losing side. I won't allow it as long as I have breath in my body."
Reagan handed over her precious bundle to her husband and just watched him. His blonde hair was tied securely to his nape with a leather strap and his blue eyes sparkled like diamonds in the sun. His features were rough, and the lines around his face were more from frowns than smiles. His frame towered over her tiny figure by a full foot, and she wouldn't have it any other way. He was a big, burly man who killed out of duty, and she loved him all the more for it. She longed to be by his side on the battlefield, but she had other important matters to tend to, like raising her children to be as cold and ruthless as their predecessors. Her heart swelled with love as she watched her daughter and her husband together. That was her legacy to this world--a small six-pound, two-ounce baby girl with the heart of a predator.

I received an eARC in exchange for an honest review. I made no guarantee of a favorable review and the opinions expressed here are my own and unbiased.

This was the first book I've read written by this author and I was very impressed by her writing style and I found it hard to put down. The storyline was well written and the characters were strong. Callisto is a strong female lead and she is simply a bad ass who doesn't let anyone or anything stand in her way. A strong plot that keeps you caught up to the bitter end so be prepared to lose yourself while reading it. This book does contain mature reading material so it is suitable for 18+.

This is a paranormal with a touch of romance. This is the first book in The Dark Indiscretions Chronicles, it leaves off with a cliff hanger, ugh, but I can not wait to read what comes next. I recommend this for adults only due to the sexual content. This story has so many twists and turns that I never knew what would happen next. And I was shocked at what happened many times, yes mouth open, wide eyed, shocked. I did not know what to think, how to feel. Callisto is a revengeful person, and her revenge is well very cruel. On the other hand she has been through so much, and she loves hard. I was tore between love and hate for her.

Callisto Carvanis started off having a normal childhood. Nothing exciting ever happened for her. Until she is old enough to understand her reason for being, but they never expected her to decide to make her own path. She will not take orders from anyone else. She is determined to make her name a legacy, and she will tear apart anyone who stands in her way.

favorite passages:
"She will outshine even the brightest star, our little Callisto."
"His blonde hair was tied securely to his nape with a leather strap and his blue eyes sparkled like diamonds in the sun."
"The rage she felt at their betrayal still stung like a thousand thorns upon her sensitive flesh."
"Her heart beat as heavy as the droplets of rain coming down on the roof."<3
"She was death and destruction; she was pain and suffering."
"She didn't belong in the shadows, she was meant to dance in the light."
"Alone we are death; together we are the end of days."
"Death would be too great for the ones who took her heart from this world."

OMG!!!! This book is AMAZING!!!!

I am usually not a fan of paranormal books, but Shakuita Johnson has made me a fan!!! This book had everything in it to make it an instant classic - in my opinion. Once I picked it up and started reading, I could not put it down.

Shakuita Johnson has created one of the BADDEST literary characters that I have had the pleasure of reading in a LONG TIME. Callisto is not to be underestimated or messed with. She is someone that I would prefer not to meet in a dark alley or anywhere else for that matter. She is a force of nature and her story deserved to be told.

The writing in this book is on point!! It was easy to get into and follow. I loved how this book has ties to the other books in the Ms. Johnson's Dark Indiscretions Series. Also, I loved the fact that you do not have to have read the other books to follow Callisto's story. If you have not read the other Dark Indiscretions books - this book will make you want to grab the entire series.

I am screaming from the roof tops that you need to read this book!!! It has some really dark points, an epic love story, and so much more!! You will be on the edge of your seats reading this book and not want to put it down!! Callisto's story is one that I will read again and again. I am also looking forward to seeing her throughout the Dark Indiscretions series.

This book is receiving 5 stars from me, because that is the highest rating available. It deserves so much more!! Awesomely Amazing job Shakuita Johnson!!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and can not wait for MORE! If you enjoy paranormal love stories with plots that keep you guessing as to what's going to happen next, then this book is for you. This book is not for the faint of heart, that is for sure. So, if you like your books sex and violence free, then you'll wanna pass.

While I was reading, I found myself with a love/hate relationship with Callisto Carvanis. I love how she refuses to go with the status quo and fights for what she believes in, but there are times where she is just a down right bitch and I wanted to smack her. I love that Johnson was able to create a character that evoked so much emotion from me. That is a sign of a great writer.

I am really looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

OMG! That's all I said when I read this book! In this book you get answers to many questions you have from Dark Indiscretions. Didn't know if I wanted to be scared of Callisto or feel sorry for her. What I do know is there was total respect for her. What do you do when you want to rule the world? Start a secret society to kill all the other monsters in the world; of course! She knew exactly what she wanted and went for it. Even if it was a plan cooked up by a crazy a**. And to have a totally devoted man by her side while she sees her plan through. Couldn't have asked for anything else. Well maybe that her children didn't hate her and one of them isn't going to bring her down. To the author: You have truly outdone yourself! Can't wait to see more from this series!

Callisto Carvanis: And A Legacy Was Born (The Dark Indiscretions Chronicles Book 1) by Shakuita Johnson was absolutely amazing from start to finish. I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review. Callisto is the female main character that you will love. She is a strong female lead character and the literary world needs more main female characters like this.
I thought the story was well written and beautifully executed. Shakuita Johnson has a way of drawing you into the story with the opening line. I couldn’t put the book down it was that good. The writing was exceptional, the action and drama was on point, and it had my favorite of character development.
I will definitely recommend this book to my friends and family. I give this book 5/5 Platypires.

I was given this ARC for an honest review
Enjoyed learning more of the back story on the Carvanis family, as well as the Mooyer society, since I've read and followed the stories from the very beginning. Callisto is groomed by her family to be a very powerful Mystic that will change the future of the Mooyer society without them even being aware they are being taken over by the very ones they are meant to destroy. Just when u think Mystics can't be any more cruel and calculating, then you'll be surprised by Callisto Carvanis!

Wow. I loved this story .what a rollar coaster ride! Callisto had her life planned out for her since she has been a baby. Well so her mother thought... people should know that things dont always go as planned. I dont know wether to hate Callisto or love her. I love that Callisto is a strong women ,knows what she wants and is gonna get it ! But she is also crazy and evil and just down right nasty. This is a great back story to the Mooyer Society and why Callisto is the way she is. Some parts are not for the faint of heart, they are raw so beware.

Since I first delved into the Dark Indiscretions series, I have always loved this series. Since Callisto first appears in Dark Indiscretions: A Prequel, I have wanted to know more about her. This book blew all of my theories out of the water.

Callisto has taken the Dark Indiscretions series to a whole new level. Well written, great character interaction, and an intense plot will keep you turning pages. I can not wait to see what Shakuita brings us next.

I loved this book. It took me forever to finish because I have not been well lately. However, You must read this one. The story starts at the beginning of Callisto's life and moves along in all of it's sexy, violent, scheming, and convoluted glory. One of my favorite passages is:

" The kind of numb that tells everyone you're at your limit of giving a shit and you're about to bring the rain and pain to any and everyone in your wake."

I just adore this series and can't wait for more.

Ok i received an ARC copy of Callisto in return for an honest review.

So Callisto is on bad bitch and i say that with honesty. Threw out this book you will see what i mean. Callisto knows what she wants and will get it no matter the cost to her or to everyone eles. Callistos mother thought she planed out her life for her welp she thought wrong. At a very young age she figures out what shes capable of.

Callisto is well written. It flows together and doesn't leave you jumping around.

I'm a HUGE paranormal fan.... So throw in some badassery and seriously twisted drama and you've got me hooked! This book had it all!! From the very well written Callisto to the yes, aptly written, evil mom who had her own evil plans.... There's a subtle love story but it went well with this book. Yes, you're seeing this right, I read a book that WASNT based off a love story. But a LIFE story. Callisto is my hero..... And I can't wait to read what happens next!

Shakuita Johnson has done it yet again. She hooked me with The Dark Indiscretions series, now we have Callisto and how it all got started.
Callisto was created to become a puppet in her mother's scheme for revenge. What everyone failed to realize was how powerful this beautiful young strong minded woman would become and no one, not even her mother would tell her how she was going to live her life.
Callisto has her own plans and they are not pretty and nice....
Amazing start to a new series!

This is the first book I've ever read/listened to by this author. When reading a authors work for the first time, you never know what to expect. The first thing that I noticed about this story was the fact it was well written. This tale drew me in within the first few pages.

Callisto is a force to be reckoned with even as a child. She knew what she wanted and stopped at nothing to get it. Her need for power and her desire for building her legacy sets her apart from those around her. But I feel it's because of that desire, she never really LIVED. She loves hard but at the same time but hard enough. A lot of the elements of the story reminded me a lot of familiar stories like Game of Thrones or Reign. The author was spot on with the behaviors and politics of those times. As disturbing as it is, during those days insect was a normal part of society.

I felt sorry for Christian. He loved Callisto so much that he did any and everything she wanted. He followed her plans for centuries, never really taking the time to learn for himself. Because of that, he ends up suffering.

I wasn't as pleased with the ended. Callisto's interactions with the society felt rushed. With all the things she's done over the centuries, I expected more of a BANG ending. This is just the first in the series; I look forward to finding out more.
