If you're anything like me, the best night is one spent with a brawny highlander, a mysterious werewolf, a conflicted vampire, or a hot-headed Irishman. My stories span the spectrum of romantic fiction from historical, to paranormal, to romantic suspense. But I can always promise my readers one thing: memorable and sexy Celtic heroes who are guaranteed to heat your blood before they steal your heart. Lose yourself in the enchanted Celtic Isles, you never know who, or what, will find you...
I enjoyed this more than the previous novella in the series, but it still had some of the same issues. The MC's in both books seem to meet, hook up, and fall in love at the same time--in the space of a day or two...
The characters are great but it's very insta-love and I think there would be more sexual tension if they didn't end up in bed so soon. Yes, I'm a pleasure delayer!!
Still, a super cool storyline and characters you can root for. Recommended for readers who dig quick, sexy paranormal reads but still want a kick-ass plot.
Ms. Byrne's berserkers' books are always wonderful to read and every time I feel defrauded because they're soooooo very short!
I would love to read one that is long enough to be considered a novel! This one was only 76 pages on my reader!!!! Wayyyyy to short!
Still enough action, hotness and great charactes are packed in it that I'm amazed how she manages to do it!
We have Niall and his band; since he first pages they made me laugh with their "nun" banter!
Then we have Kenna and her, in my opinion, stupid act of fire magick to save the nuns. But, she redeams herself immediately (did I tell you it was a very short story?!) and procedes to ravish Niall - and what a ravishment it is!!! WOW
I loved Niall better than Kenna. He knows what he wants immediately and doesn't mince about it!
I really enjoyed this short (did I tell it?!) installment and I'm looking forward to Malcolm's story! ... hoping it will be longer! :)
Kennas' mission and only desire is to protect her family and keep the world safe because of this she learns to endure. She struggles everyday to pretend she's normal even though she's not. She accepts the ridicule and punishments because she has to. Only she can keep the book safe.
He's a berserker and an invader. His duty is to his goddess Freya, no one else matters for now. He's not under any illusions that for him obtaining a mate is impossible. What woman would find a terrifying killing machine acceptable? How could they control his passions.
Altogether, this was another great book in the berserker world. I really enjoyed our couple this time around because they were a bit more fierce and knew what the both wanted. Kenna wasn't embarrassed about taking what she wanted or being who she is which in turn made her stand out. Naill, our berserker, was definitely more down to earth compared to the others before him an even around him.
FULL REVIEW TO FULL.... I have always loved to reading about Berserkers and when I found Kerrigan Byrne's Novels, I thought I die and went to Berserker heaven. And now she has taken her readers to a whole new level in her newest Book, Indecent.
What do you get when you mix a Beserker from the North with a winsome Fire Druid of the Highlands? You get the next exciting book in the newest trilogy offered up by Ms Byrne. Kenna and Niall whip up the flames of desire that sweep them away from the moment Niall sees Kenna . And like a phoenix those flames may consume them both but in the end they will emerge from those flames and find them mated. Now with unexpected love flowing through their veins giving them strengths not known before. But will this new love and strength be enough, along with their family to prevent the end of the world? The final book cannot come out fast enough. Then I will get to enjoy them all together as a whole dish to be relished!!
2.5 stars. Did not like the heroine. IMO - she as a whore who used men for power. Literally, she took their power through sex. Not a fan. Hero was barely a character. It was all about the overall story and the heroine.
My review contains spoilers and they're mostly my thoughts as I went with the book... for more, visit Punya Reviews...
Indecent, The Moray Druids book 2, too, features a sexy berserker hero, Niall and another druid princess, Kenna of the De Moray family. This was also of the funniest installments of Kerrigan’s Highland Historical novellas that I’ve read so far. The combination, for me, was a complete page turner!
In book 1, Insolent, we’re introduced to the De Moray family, one of the most ancient family of Druids and Witches in the Highlands. Right now, there are only 3 surviving members who are fighting an insane battle to save the world from a coming apocalypse. Malcolm is the King, whose power lies in the element of earth. His sister, Morgana, the h of book 1, wields the power of water. Kenna, their cousin, can manipulate fire. An ancient tome called the Grimoire is what they’re trying to hide from an evil trio, the Wyrd Sisters. These three were once a part of the De Moray family but have gone astray when they surrendered to the dark and evil magic to enhance their powers. Now they seek the Grimoire, which holds the secrets of the universe; everything that you can think of, to use it to bring about said apocalypse and ultimately, to rule the world.
When Morgana met Bael, he was fighting to die, ending a long, miserable and unwanted existence as a berserker. Morgana was certainly not looking to be mated or falling in love. But while saving herself from a band of marauding Vikings, she came across Bael’s badly battered body. She heals him and instantly, his beast decides who it wants and for what purpose. When all was said and done and they’re mated for good, the world was still at danger from the Wyrd Sisters. Kenna and Bael have already ‘met’ the sisters and fought to save themselves from their evil magic. With Malcolm’s help, they even fend off an attack on their keep. When it’s revealed that Kenna has the book and is protecting it from somewhere unknown, we’re left to contemplate of what was to come next.
I liked that story quite a lot, especially Kenna and Bael’s instant attraction and communication that, to me, never once felt out of place.
I was eagerly waiting for Indecent, which turned out to be Kenna’s book. But first, we’re introduced to the H, Niall. A berserker born to a very noble family, Niall has had the upbringing an exact opposite to that of Bael’s. Yet, he isn’t any less lethal and predatory than him. When he and his rowdy band of Vikings decide to invade a nearby abbey for gold and such, he had no idea of the scenery waiting for him there; a dreamy vision of a pair of generous breasts. Yup, that’s what caught his attentions right on the spot. :p I already knew that I was going to enjoy this a lot.
Then there was Ingmar, one of Niall’s men. I’ll leave you to find out about him, but ye Gods, he was a joker!
The second thing Niall notices was that the girl with the pair of breast that made him so hard was being punished by the Mother Superior. Apparently, they think she’s a witch and needs to be whipped to save her soul. Niall is enraged to see her treated this way. The blood on her wounded body does the job though. His berserker beast is out and it decides that it has found its mate. Oh boy!
For Kenna, the punishment wasn’t that bad for she knew the nuns to be rather ignorant, not having much idea of her inherent power. But when this huge (and good-looking) Viking, looking all angry on her behalf, fills her vision, Kenna knew she’s in trouble. Then when, his berserker beast snaps her right from where she was bound, from in front of all the nuns who were staring agape and takes her to her room without any directions to mate, Kenna also understood that she needs to use this to her convenience. Because, for Kenna, sex means power. The vitality of a man’s body can enrich her own, leaving her stronger than ever. This man exudes so much potency that she figures the only way she can help heal her wounds and do something about the mess around her is by having sex with him.
Oh well, I wasn’t unhappy per say but I thought it was way too early for any such intimacy. And it leaves Niall undoubtedly mated to Kenna, though she is very reluctant to accept him at first. The reason behind it surfaces soon enough when Malcolm ‘drops by’ (or rather Kenna sees him through the fire) to update her about Morgana and Bael and to learn of the state of the Grimoire at the moment. He’s also exasperated, and a little disgusted, that the hated berserkers are taking over his family, f... er, mating with the females left and right. What is the world is coming down to, seriesly? Malcolm is annoyed as hell, yet when the time comes and every help is needed for their cause, Malcolm is shrewd enough to know that they can do a lot with the combined power of two mated berserkers.
After Niall comes to learn of what is to come, he decides he’d do whatever it takes, and gladly, to claim Kenna as his, so that she accepts him as her mate.
When finally, the Wyrd Sisters pay a ‘visit’ to the abbey in search of the book, Kenna is faced with a life threatening situation. On the one hand, she needs to save the Grimoire, yet on the other, Niall’s soul is in danger of being banished. What a druid princess, who was given the sacred task of guarding the Grimoire with her life, would do in this situation? Read and find out!
I was quite ecstatic when Morgana and Bael later join the party alongside Malcolm. And though the apocalypse had not yet been averted, Kenna and Niall come to terms with their fate quite happily, love blossoming after what they’ve been through together in such a short span of time.
Ingmar was there too and as crazy and conceited as he is, I kept wondering, would he be given his own story? That is something I’d love to read!
Now I’m looking forward to Malcolm’s book, Incarnate, which will definitely stage the big showdown... or so I’m hoping for. 4.25 stars and recommended!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
....sexy good short story with a little ‘Scottish magic and historical tales’ (druid and berserker).
I really did like the H/H’s for all the books; well paired as a couple in its writing.
writing style is easy to follow. Strong women, humour and overall enjoyable read.
romantic/sexual content is written well throughout the book (kissing, oral, love making) I’d rate it 4/5 steam and fire.
I love series around family members or a group of friends. I love the series even more when the author intertwines those characters throughout the book series (it’s a pet peeve when authors don’t do that because what’s the point of the series and introducing the characters if they are not going to interact throughout the series).
I’m not a huge fan of ‘internal dialogue’ in books. I can only take so much before I start skimming through pages and I found myself doing that with this book/series. But nothing that was too annoying for me.
would absolutely recommend the book and the series. you don’t have to read the series in order but i would suggest you do read them in order because the history of characters would bring better enjoyment of the stories in general.
This novella worked better than the previous one just going by the chemistry between Kenna and Niall. The setting is based in just one location being the abbey, but it did work.
Love scenes are a given in this series, and I felt they worked in this context because Kenna's power comes from other sources. Not sure what to feel about this, as it's basically noted she uses sex to do so. And she also takes power from Niall the very first time without him knowing the whole picture (any consent?).
The nuns and Niall's men added some depth, and Ingmar provided some comic relief by making nun puns. Did he go there? Yes! Historically and linguistically accurate? No! Still funny? Yes!
Duncan is now surrounded by berserkers, teehee. Now, onto the last novella of the Highland Magic series and Duncan's story!
McKenna another Druid and cousin to the King and Princess. She is hiding out in a convent. Naill is a Viking Beserker who is about to raid and pillage the convent. He saves McKenna from a lashing for being a witch, which she is not, she is a druid. This story was full of humor and the next installment to the mission of the de Moray druids to save the world. Derek Perkins narrates this story and does a wonderful job.
A Bit Darker With High Heat: Niall saving Kenna from a beating puts both of their lives on a new path of adventure, excitement, and a lot of heated lusty intimacy. I enjoyed the humorous banter between the Vikings especially when they used the word NUN. Quite funny. Each ones beauty stole their breath away from each other. Gorgeous characters, I'd say. Mature reader: ✔ Descriptive intimacy, ✔ Heated intimacy level: 4 out of 5
3.5 stars. This novella has humorous Viking warriors, nun puns, nasty witches, bloody violence, and a lot of fire sex. It was exciting and pushed the story to the edge of the final conflict between the Wyrd Sister witches and the Moray Druids.
“You cannot have his soul,” she called, the flames whipping around her and reaching toward the triad of witches. “For it belongs to me, and I belong to him. He is my mate and I accept him as such.”
I like it but not as much as the first one still enjoyable series. I am totally enthralled I want to know what happens in the end and and how are they going to defeat the evil witches.
These Wyrd Witches need to go! Just saying lol. Love the strength in these Druids and their dedication to family. Truly want to know what happened to Malcolm and going to read him now.
So far this is the only book of all 3 Celtic series where I'm just stuck in the middle. I didn't hate it but didn't love it. I didn't like it but didn't dislike it, it was just there, it's part of the storyline. It moved the story along and that's about it. One surprising thing is that I can at least like one main character in a book, this one I didn't care for either of them. I didn't like Kenna not only as a person but as a mate to Niall and Niall was...not very interesting to me but also a little desperate. I didn't feel a connection between them either. She takes without giving anything back, while Niall gives his all and gets nothing in return. This is my idea of a very unhealthy and doomed relationship.
Kenna, seemed just selfish to me. She can take power from someone by being with them physically. She used him, she didn't intentionally plan to take so much energy from him but she still knew the risks and consequences whereas he didn't. Whether she had to act fast because she used her magic endangering her location or she did it just to heal, that's not right, she should have been upfront about it. On top of that, they talked a little but not on a level that the other couples did where I could see why they developed feelings for the other. Their connection was more based on attraction and sex rather than love and I found myself skimming a lot in those scenes because I got bored. I don't see what he saw in her and I don't see what she saw in him to be able to call it love. There was no chemistry outside of sex and most of what they talked about was about the impending apocalypse.
I think Niall was in love with the idea of her and having a mate. I don't see how he could claim to love her when she used him, pushed him away, but gladly accepted sex from him. He kept fighting for someone who didn't want him and I don't feel that person is worth it if they just brush you off every time you try to push for more. I think he was in love with the idea of having someone special just for him, to love and care for him after being on his own so long, and having no one of his own in life. He deserved someone better, Kenna was not that girl. His priority was always her and what she wanted, he never held any anger towards her for using or rejecting him, he even tried to bribe her into accepting him letting her know he would become a lot stronger and a powerful asset to her cause. He held no shame in doing anything and everything just to get her affection in return. That's just so sad when he's willing to take what he can get, no matter how selfish she was.
This series just isn't doing it for me so far and I'm not holding high expectations for the last book anymore. The action at the end of the book I did like and sets the mood for Malcolm's book which seems to hint it's a little darker than the rest but I'm not sure how dark. So far I've liked him, so hopefully this will make up for where this one and the last book went wrong at some point.
The Doomsday Grimoire was safe with Kenna de Moray while she was hiding in an Abbey. Even with her gift of sight she did not foresee who and what fate had in store for her.
Niall Thorson a son of the oldest Berserker clan only intended to raid the Abbey for its gold while sheltering his band of marauders from the impending storm. When he makes eye contact with a woman bound by the wrists being whipped some internal force reaches out to clam her.
Instant sensation took Niall in its thrall. The rivulets of rain running down his forearm to drip from his elbow became a physical caress. The rasp of his clothing against his burning skin an unexpected irritation he needed to be rid of. The muscles along his spine clenched and rolled with the need to be rhythmically thrusting. Mine
Niall’s hasty bedding of the young female Druid has an unexpected twist upon completion. Kenna happens to be a fire Druid and her powers need to be replenished and the Berserker has ample power to give. Where their coupling has Kenna all hopped up like the energizer bunny Niall is less than fortunate…but what away to die~ Soft hearted Kenna puts all at risk while trying to protect her persecutors which leads her heart home and those she loves to battle.
the fact that this big and lethal warrior- a deities' instrument of death- was now lavishing her skin with his tongue instead of spilling her blood was beginning to mean more with each passing moment they spent alone. She felt...exceptional, cherished somehow, by this man whose name and intent remained unknown.
Yummmmmmy! I dare say these Novellas are not for the faint of heart. If you do not like explicit sexual encounters then feel free to shy away. Your loss~ But if you are not of the faint heart and love adult romance and some bloodshed than be sure to turn the page. I never tire of reading the Berserker love stories where they do tend to get right to the goods, I find I am the kinda girl who eats dessert before dinner! I mean isn’t that the point in a book to be submerged in fantasy? Well if you happen to be even remotely interested in over bearing men succumbing to their wildest desires grab Kerrigan Byrne’s books….any of them!
I have been a big fan of Kerrigan Byrnes books since I read her first Historical Highland novella. I really didn't think that her books could get much better, but she just proved me wrong with her newest novella, Indecent! Wow! I laughed so much in the beginning of this book. The puns just kept rolling from one of the characters and the timing couldn't have been more perfect. I just loved her newest Beserker, Niall and the heroine, Kenna. This story takes place following her last book, Insolent. Niall and his Beserker have met their match in the sweet witch, Kenna. Together they will have to fight to keep the the Wyrd Sisters from wrecking havoc on the world. Will their love be enough to do it. All in all, this story grabbed me from the beginning and didn't let go until the last word. If you like sexy paranormal romance, set in the times of the Highland warrior's, then I highly recommend giving all of Kerrigan Byrnes book a read.
I just love Kerrigan's Berserker's!! This is story is centered around Kenna de Moray. The de Moray cousin that is hiding the Grimoire from the Wyrd Sisters. The sisters are still trying to get their hands on the grimoire to call the horsemen of the apocalypse. In order to protect a Convent of Nuns Kenna has to use her powers. Which gives away where she has been hiding. Niall Halvard Thorsen and his Vikings are looking for shelter and of course if they can plunder even better! Of course Niall is a berserker and if you follow Byrne's writing you know they are sexy dangerous devils! I can't wait to get one of my own. This story was sexy, funny, dangerous, and just made me swoon. Through out all of the fighting and war love, family, honor, and responsibility is still the main focus of the de Moray family. If you love historical/paranormal romance you can't miss these berserker's!!
