Anchor Line

Rate this book
Anchor Line: A stable line attached to the aircraft to which you attach your
static line to, before jumping out of the aircraft.

SSG Conrad Renner was your typical single Soldier. He was in line for
promotion; his professional life was in line. He was the Platoon Sergeant
that all of the young Soldiers wanted to learn from, an Airborne Jump Master
with a bronze star on his jump wings for his combat jump into Iraq, with additional
deployments to Afghanistan too. His service record and reputation were
impeccable.

His personal life was a mix of women, strip clubs, and the shooting range
where he shot his own arsenal of weapons. Conrad was a Dominant at the
local underground Club Messosotto. He'd fill in as Dungeon Master when the
'Messo' needed him on weekends. He was the number one Dominant to teach
Submissives.

Addie Marshall was the daughter of one of the favorite Post Command Sergeant
Majors. Although, not everyone knew she worked in Personnel on Fort Bragg,
there were some who did. After losing her boyfriend Charles to a training
accident during an airborne jump, she swore she'd never date an airborne
Soldier again.

SSG Renner had come into her office a few times before to update his
records. This last time, he was more candid than he'd ever been before. So
Addie turns his appointment into a battle of wits and snarky comments.

Conrad wants to teach Addie to be his submissive. Through a deployment to
Afghanistan and his move to Vicenza, Italy, Conrad gives Addie homework: to
learn what she can about a D/s relationship before she comes to visit.

When things get to the wire, Addie wants the exclusivity that Conrad said he
wasn't sure he could give anyone, including her. He's ready to jump but not
sure if he can. Will Addie become his Anchor Line?

I really wanted to like this book. It had tons of potential, but it ended up falling short for me in a number of ways.

First, there were a ton of inconsistencies. One thing would be states - like she couldn't go to the club without a Dom - and then all the sudden - she's there (just in time to set up a dramatic scene). And it didn't happen just once or twice - but over and over again. It was frustrating and distracting.

I might have gotten past that - but I dislike both the hero and heroine so much I wanted to smack them both.

Addie was just TSTL. Here's this guy, stringing her along. Saying he likes her but can't commit - sleeping with other girls. Ignoring her. Being unforgivably insensitive. Engaging with other women when she was around. While at the same time expecting her to be faith and just stick around through whatever BS he decided to send her way. No. Just no. She laps it up - runs away at the drop of a hat. Says she understands he needs time and over the curse of TWO YEARS lets him jack her around. I didn't like her - I didn't respect her. Not my factorize kind of heroine. And Conrad was just a big freaking baby. He was selfish in the extreme - he never cared enough about Addie to put her first - he just kept dangling that carrot in front of her and snatching it back.

By the time everything was resolved, all I could think was "there is no way this lasts".

Not for me. Not even a little.

Unfortunately, I did not enjoy this book. I will try not to be too harsh but here goes

This book was an editing nightmare, the heroine's name was constantly spelled different. There were sentences where I could not decipher what word the author actually wanted to put in.

Much of the book felt like filler, often you would get sentences like..."he finished getting dressed throwing on a clean pair of socks and shoes, tucked his wallet in his back pocket and grabbed the keys." Now once or twice of these sentences like this, but every page I think it is implied when you say he got dressed that he put on shoes, I don't need a play by play of everything.

It starts off interesting and the first 50 pages or so I wanted to see where the story would take me.

Addy and Conrad are both interested in each other. Conrad is definitely a player and every time they go out she is approached by one of his "subs," and he never apologizes for this in fact he almost treats her as if she need to get over it.

Now this is about where I started to have many wtf moments. He is a dom, so you think the story is going to take on a sort of BDSM tone. It doesn't though, their encounters are definitely steamy but with the exception of a minimal part of the book I don't see him as a dom. He is not protective and he didn't hesitate to share her.

Every time he is away from her he sleeps with someone else and he never apologizes especially after stringing her along for years.

I continued to read hoping it would get better... Conrad had no redeeming qualities and I think if you are going to write a character that is such a douche, somewhere you need to explain why he is like that and make him better at the end.

Overall, I saw glimpses of what could have been a good story but honestly I would say save your money.

GOODNESS. HOTTEST ALPHA MALE I HAVE MET IN A VERY LONG TIME!!!!

SSG Conrad Renner is a man that knows what he wants and knows how to get what he wants. He stays away from commitment, he doesn't need it. He's happy with the way his life is, plus in his line of work no need to have a wife who will most likely become a war bride. This man is a Dom at a local BDSM club and there is no shortage of candidates that want to play with him. The perfect Bachelor life right?

Addie Marshall, oh Addie. She goes to work on base every day does her job has her friends and goes home to an empty apartment at night. She happens to be the one that helps SSG Renner at the personnel office. So, when he comes in one day to have his records updated, he asks her out for lunch. He is VERY INSISTENT. She agrees and before the week is over he manages to take her to lunca a few more times.

These two have MAJOR chemistry together. But, with his lifestyle there is no shortage of females approaching him for a fun time. Addie, is one strong willed woman. She is not sticking around to see other women come up to throw themselves at him.Especially when they are hanging out together, yes, we don't put labels on this. Something has to change. Does he want just her or does he want to continue life as he knows it.

This story is not for the weak of heart. There are some strong sexual scenes that are HOT!!! This book takes us on an adventure we won't soon forget. The way this man shows us what we do to him is something that will forever stick out in our minds. We fall in love, we get hurt, we physically hurt the man that hurts us. We grow as individuals, we stand our ground. If you want something bad enough don't play games. Be honest and true to yourself and to the other person. Fight for what you want and never be afraid to tell each other how you feel. Time is wasted when games are played.

Dawne Walters' writing style is easy to follow. She tells a good story and keeps the audience engaged. Highly recommended. Can't wait for more work from Dawne.

FYI: KEEP YOUR EYES OUT FOR MR. PRINGLES

Life is simple for Conrad Renner – he has his career.
Why complicate it and more to the point why bother?
The term to have your cake and eating it springs to mind on more than one occasion throughout this book when it comes to how Conrad likes to live his life. He tries to eliminate anything unnecessary but only seems to incur more complications in the process.
Happy living the single life, he doesn’t really bother with conventional dating, I mean why put in the effort when you can have a sea of submissive women kneeling at your feet every day if you wanted, he is one of the most sought after Dom’s in the area after all.
And all this was fine until that point because until then his life did not include Addie.
Personnel Office worker, Addie Marshall is getting by, outperforming the others at work she has her head screwed on and is focused on promotion, that is until Conrad Renner enters the fray and screws with the head for all the wrong reasons. Getting rid of this determined guy is high on her list of priorities but the only way is to give in to his persistence and to agree to join him for lunch. Over the course of the week, lunch becomes more than a one off and Addie is finding it difficult to deny the chemistry between the pair of them.
But not one to play second fiddle, Addie is reluctant to get involved – and the barrage of women he attracts - women with whom he has been involved with at the club leaves her in no doubt that if they are to have something then something has to change.
This story is not a quick fix it is spread over a sizeable period of time and involves more than one occasion when any sane woman would have quite happily have told him to fuck off!!
But Addie believes there is something and like a fool keeps going back for more.
Her propensity for pain is staggering because knowingly or not Conrad appears to spend much of the book, wringing ever emotion from her.
I found Addie to be endearing enough but I found it frustrating that she put herself in the position where regardless of what she did, Conrad had the ability to break her heart. I understood the connection that she felt she had but there is only so much pain anyone should be prepared to put up with.
I thought that Conrad was reckless with Addie’s emotions most of the time and for that it was difficult to fully get on board with his character. Although I do have to say that in regards to his dominant activities – he certainly had a way that set the pages alight.
The ending and epilogue though were top notch!
The grammatical errors in the book are noticeable but do not detract from the storyline – although saying that you have to try hard to glance over them. The book would have benefitted from being more robustly proof read.
Overall the story equipped itself well and if anything had you rooting for Addie – sometimes the heart wants what it wants and is not prepared to give in! Little did Conrad know that his future was far beyond the realms of where he believed his rainbow lay, strike one for the hopeless romantic!

OMG .. I want an Anchor Line

First this is the first book I have read by Dawne Walters and I will be reading more. She wrote a Damn good book. Addie is and Military Brat, Her father has served his Country and in turn Addie worked in the Office on the base where they help the service men with all their needs. Conrad joined the Military at a young age, it was his Life and he was good at his job. Addie and Conrad Meet when he has an appointment to get his affairs in order before being shipped out for another Tour. He is a guy that doesn't do relationship, he saw what it did to his Dad when his Mother left not only her husband but her 3 kids. So to Conrad just hook up with a girl to take care of business and move on. He soon sees that Addie isn't like all the others, she has a draw he can't figure out and her sassy mouth drives him crazy but in all he likes it and wants more. When he deploys they keep in touch and he even has her come overseas to Italy and they spend 10 amazing days together. When Addie leaves she feels like a part of her is torn away. They kept this type of relationship going for 2 years. When she comes back to the U.S. things change for her and him. When Conrad comes back to the State can he get her back since he basically dropped off the face of the earth. Is he willing to let her go or will he fight to get her back and Never Left Her Go. I Love, Love this story. No Cliffhanger's the full story. A Must read, totally recommend this book to all.

SSG Conrad Renner does not want commitment. He does not want a wife waiting on him. He is a DOM at a local BDSM club. He has no shortage of women to do his bidding.

Addie Marshall works on base. She lost her boyfriend to a parachute accident. She does not want to date a soldier and go through that heartache.

In walk,Conrad Renner to see Addie. Conrad was very persistent in taking Addie out to lunch several times. Conrad has women consistently approaching him. Addie does not put up with the women and finds her way back to the office on more than one occasion by other means.

The chemistry is extremely HOT between Conrad and Addie. The pages were on fire on some of the sex scenes. Dawne Walters writes a story that had me glued to the pages.

Where oh where is my Anchor Line!

Strong alpha male meets strong alpha female! Sergeant Conrad Renner definitely met his match. Addie Marshall peeks Renner`s interest and keeps it. One minute I was mad at him for being a jerk and then the next I was mad at her for giving it back or laughing my ass off because she was. Love the fact that she wasn't afraid to give him bell. Strong sexual scenes that are pretty damn hot! I will never think of a Pringles can again and not think of Sergeant Renner! I have picked up a couple new sayings but my favorite is "douche canoe" can't wait for more of Addie and Conrad!

I have a new book boyfriend and his name is Conrad.

I absolutely loved this story w/ all my heart. I was intrigued by it at first because I'm a military spouse. My heart swooned the moment Conrad met Addie. When two people are meant for each other the most they always fight it. Why? The more they're together the more things rip them apart. Their paths always ended up at the same point of each other's. If that's not fate than I'm not sure what is.

If you want a wild and heart sputtering story this is it! My heart is still fluttering.

Read the premise and I knew I had to read this. This book had all the ups and downs of a soap opera without the over-dramatics. One minute I was laughing at how off kilter Addie had Conrad, the next I'm angry because yet another bimbo or situation came up and threatened their relationship. I loved this book from start to finish.

I'm so in love with Conrad. Wow it is hard to form a coherent thought when I think about this Dom who finally gave in and claimed his Anchor Line. I loved it and definitely recommend this book to anyone who reads. I want more of Conrad.

Ok read, but nothing new with the storyline. Quite slow to get going and no gripping bits! Probably won't recommend. Too many other good books out there.
