This was a great read. Never knew how much more complicated the story of The Great Escape was. A must read for anyone interested in finding out the whole story!

My grandfather was a POW at Stalag Luft III for eight months. A true anti-fascist.

A very interesting telling of the escape from Stalag Luft III along with the life inside the camp told from many different accounts. If you aren´t interested in POW Camps, I definitely wouldn´t recommend it. In the event you are into WWII and POW matters, I would overwhelmingly recommend this to you.

I appreciated the details provided in this book to better understand what like was like for the thousands of POWs held there. My grandpa was in West Compound from June 17, 1944 and was part of the long winter march in late January 1945. The info provided in this book gave me insights into my grandpas experiences as a prisoner of war.

Excellent book which gives one a lot more insight from both sides about the experiences of POWs in WWII in German camps as well as those of their captors. Published over 33 years ago it is informative and educational.

I do not recommend for someone who isn't already interested in POW camps as it can be a bit dry and there are some really great memoirs to get you into the subject first, but for those of us who already devoured The Great Escape, The Longest Tunnel: The True Story of World War II's Great Escape, Moonless Night: The World War Two Escape Epic, and Under the Wire: The Bestselling Memoir of an American Spitfire Pilot and Legendary POW Escaper this is a really fascinating history of the camp where the Great Escape took place.
