There are books your kids love… and then there are books your kids LOVE. And then there are the ones they count down the days for—the ones they can’t wait to arrive. Lepunia: The Last Galloper is that kind of book.
My girls could hardly wait—they were keeping a close eye on the mailbox and asking with every piece of book mail (yes, they now recognize “book mail” 😅), “Is it Lepunia 2?” So when it finally showed up in Azalea Woods, it was met with a full-on celebration—complete with a chorus of “Yip! Yip!” (If you know, you know 😉).
💭 THOUGHTS: Picking up right where Lepunia: Kingdom of the Gallopers left off, we were instantly reunited with some of our favorite characters while also meeting a few new ones who quickly stole our hearts—especially one: Cactus Dodge, a lizard-wrangling roadrunner who added a cheerful "Yeehaw!" to our familiar "Yip! Yip!"
With strong threads of faith running throughout, this story reminds us that while God doesn’t always remove the hard things, He never leaves us to face them alone. As one character reflects, “Sometimes the Swiftness takes away hard things, but more often he chooses to accompany us in them.” This theme echoes deeply through the pages, encouraging readers to trust God’s presence in the midst of difficulty, to find courage in Him, and to believe that even in pain, He is near and working for our good.
Brimming with beloved characters, unlikely heroes, adventure, courage, and hope, the Lepunia series is one of our favorite family read-alouds. We’re already counting down the days until book three—Yip! Yip!
🍎 RECOMMENDED FOR: Ages 8 and up—though younger children are sure to enjoy it as well.
⚠️ CONTENT TO CONSIDER: The story includes battle scenes, character deaths, unkind talk (from the bad guys), and themes of betrayal. I recommend reading ahead to be sure it’s a good fit for your family—especially if you have younger or more sensitive listeners.
