A mix of quality writing and poems that did nothing for me. Enough of the good to make it worth a read, but enough of the boring to make me feel that it's overrated.

Favorites:
"Seven Hundred Years Later"
"Bou Arfa" - a town in Africa
"Looking Out from a Paris Apartment"
"Desert"

if I speak of time it hasn't happened
if I speak of a place it's disappeared
if I speak of a man he will soon be dead

- "A Letter from Nadezhda Mandelstam to Anna Akhmatova"

I really enjoyed the freshness, the freedom, and the no holds barred of Gabriela's poetry. Like a breath of fresh air. I love how she plays with her titles, sometimes independent of the poems themselves, the illustrations in each section, the way she touches on all world places and cultures, her poems about Mexico City in English!, her sense of experimentation and fearlessness. And the authority with which she uses the word fuck!
