If there's such a thing as beautiful body horror, this is it. It also really reminded me of the indie visual novel "A Date With Death," which is in no way a bad thing.

Overall: 3 stars
This was a very interesting volume of manga. The main female character, Aibi, is not at all your typical demure high school romance lead. She's headstrong and determined and also very manipulative and selfish. She's someone who's been neglected and emotionally abused, but she's also someone who, in turn, manipulates and uses people. So, she's an interesting character with both admirable and unlikable qualities (although I think she's definitely landing on the "unlikable" side for me right now).
I was touched by (and could absolutely relate to) the themes of long-term chronic illness. Aibi's depression and need for outside validation and love are poignant, if sometimes a little hard to read.
The main male lead, the death god Shii-kun, doesn't really seem to have much of a personality right now beyond "grumpy," but to be fair, most of this volume focused on Aibi. There are hints of some backstory developing for him though.
Also. The plot twists in this volume are bonkers. There's several, and each one really ramped up the stakes in this story.
So, overall, I didn't love this manga, but the art was nice and there were some interesting characters, themes, and plot twists. I did enjoy reading it and am curious to know what happens, so I might continue the series. Not in a rush tho.

3.75/5, I liked the plotwists, and the art is gorgeous. Aibi's a little crazy but with all she's been through, I don't blame her, and I quite like that she's not as clear-cut of a character as she first appears. I want to know more!

Honestly didn't expect to like this as much. The main character is a sweetheart and the Reaper is just the right amount of edgy and mysterious.

The art is absolutely stunning!
The plot is intriguing and is definitely hinting at reincarnation and I love past life stories.
The FMC was hard to take though. Annoying asf. And she was definitely unlikeable.
I will try out the next volume still, but I’m not in a hurry to get to it.

Nouvelle série. J'étais curieuse. On a d'un côté un faucheur, qui récupère les âmes des fraîchement mort. De l'autre Aïbi, une jeune fille qui souffre d'une étrange maladie "la maladie du bouquet", qui transforme son corps en fleurs. Personne ne comprend ce qu'il se passe, mais les malades sont tous condamnés. Sauf qu'Aïbi...sourit à son faucheur, le déstabilisant. Elle ne désire que de l'amour et fait montre d'une positivisme ahurissant.
Honnêtement, elle est étrange et ses réactions m'ont parues bizarres, voir m'ont mis étrangement mal à l'aise. Mais je ne peux nier que l'on nous propose ici un duo (trio...) de personnages très intrigants ! A suivre...

The concept is interesting. The art is decent. And second half of the book takes off. But initially, it's a bit slow. There's some inconsistency. Unless I missed something (possible), Aibi suddenly becomes a key to unlocking the Death God's memory for no reason at all and that was a weird shift, although his stalker vibe fits regardless since he's obviously trying to understand what he feels. I like it. The foreshadowing has me hooked enough to grab book 2.

I don't know how to feel about this. More intrigued at the beginning, and at the end the plot became a bit too randomly big and convoluted. Also Aibi feels like a Mary-Sue.

I felt that the pacing was just too fast for a first volume in a series. I also felt that the way the mom acted was so irrational and so forced that it was just hard to take it seriously. Both of the MCs just weren't that interesting to me. They had no depth to them and neither did any of the side characters. They felt really one dimensional. Really disappointed because I really want to like this one and the premise sounded right up my alley.

I like that Aibi is more duplicitous than she appears, but I don’t find myself continuing this. The pacing between the death god and Aibi is a little too forced and fast for me.
The parents in this seemed so flat and one-dimensional.

Aibi has Bouquet Syndrome, a disease that causes her body to sprout flowers and while it doesn't hurt and is not contagious it will kill her. One evening a Death God appears in her window and informs her that her time has finally come, she only has seven more days to live. To the surprise and dismay of the Death God, Aibi actually thanks him for informing her, and she even smiles at him. Perplexed by her response the Death God continues to visit her and on the day she is supposed to die he does something inexplicable even to himself, he saves her from Death vowing to protect her from everything and everyone even Death.
This was a completely random pick, B&N was closing so I just grabbed the first title that looked interesting to me. I am not even the tiniest bit disappointed in this story.
I went into this with zero expectations I didn't even read the blurb at the back of the book so that may be part of the reason I enjoyed it so much but, let's be honest it's pretty much my go-to read, which is why I love it even more because I was very surprised by the direction the story went in. I assumed that this would be one of those stories where the girl is somehow roped into marrying Death but it's actually the exact opposite. Aibi latches on to Shii-Kun (Death) seeing him as the only person who cares for her. I can't blame her for that either. Even without her terminal illness her family life is pretty awful her mother treats her as simply an object to impress her father with and when that doesn't work she takes it out on Aibi. Aibi is essentially alone in the world and desperate for any affection so she buries her resentment and anger under this "good girl" persona she's created in hopes of getting the love she should be freely offered from her parents. Shii-Kun is most definitely a kindred spirit, he has no memories of his life before he became a Death God so it's almost like he does not even realize he'd been missing love until he met Aibi.
This disease Aibi suffers from is super interesting as well. It's alluded to several times throughout that Bouquet Syndrome might actually be a curse. As the story progresses this becomes more and more likely especially after we are introduced to Himeno. If we combine the things he says with the new flower growth after a certain incident between Aibi and some classmates I feel like Bouquet Syndrome if not a curse is definitely more curse-like than an illness. That being said it's only Vol. 1 so I'll say I'm 75% certain it's a curse or something sort of psychological manifestation.
Finally, if we weren't already in 5-star area the memory Shii-Kun regains at the end of the volume would have done it. If this is actually going in the direction this volume ends on this is going to become a new must-read series for me!

This is an interesting twist on the idea of a human woman, and a man from Death's realm, meeting and falling in love. Hades and Persephone, and I'm sure others, but old tales are not a strength of mine.
The story starts when an unnamed shinigami comes to tell heroine Aibi that he will collect her soul in seven days. She has a disease that's going to claim her life. The shinigami likes seeing people cry and get fearful over the prospect of their own death, but Aibi is an anomaly, smiling and looking forward to his daily visits. (This next sentence isn't much of a spoiler, but I'll mark it anyhow.) , and thus an ongoing story begins.
This story has an uncanny vibe in Aibi's illness making her grow flowers all over her body. Her parents have divorced, and her mother--overly demanding from the beginning--blames her daughter for getting the illness and breaking up their family, and she kicks Aibi out of their home partway through this volume. At least she's supporting her daughter with an apartment and living expenses, so, er, good for her.
Being treated poorly her whole life has made Aibi cynical, but deep down she wants someone in her life to be loyal to her. The shinigami knows that he was once a human, but has no memory of that life. Aibi intrigues him because of her strength in the face of death, and also because .
This is an interesting premise, both on a story and character level, and I like the pervasive mild horror of Aibi's condition, the angels, and the monsters. But while I can understand the emotions of these characters, I'm having trouble feeling them, if that makes any sense. The character art is very pretty, and the panel-to-panel story is mostly easy to follow (less the action scenes, which shoujo manga often has trouble conveying well). Still, there's something lacking in the storytelling that keeps me at a distance, that makes for a flat affect. It's hard to explain, very much a vibes thing.
Here's one example that I can think of, which unfortunately is a mild spoiler.
I have another volume of this, and will read it next. The main couple's dynamic is odd and interesting, and this needs to improve only a smidgen to fully have my attention, so we'll see what happens!

Aïbi est une héroïne déroutante. Là où l’on s’attendrait à de la peur ou du désespoir, elle répond à l’annonce de sa mort avec une sérénité presque irréelle. Elle remercie même le dieu de la Mort venu la prévenir. Une réaction inattendue, qui donne le ton d’une relation aussi étrange que fascinante.
Car ce duo fonctionne à merveille.
D’un côté, un faucheur habitué aux larmes humaines, de l’autre, une jeune fille qui refuse de céder à la peur. Entre eux naît un lien atypique, fait de silences, de curiosité et d’émotions contenues, qui dépasse peu à peu leur rôle initial.
Mais derrière cette douceur apparente se cache une histoire bien plus sombre.
Aïbi est atteinte d’un mystérieux mal, le “syndrome du bouquet”, qui fait éclore des fleurs sur son corps. Une idée à la fois poétique et dérangeante, sublimée par des scènes visuellement magnifiques. La symbolique des fleurs apporte une dimension supplémentaire au récit, renforçant son aura mélancolique et presque gothique.
Le manga explore également la solitude d’Aïbi, son passé familial pesant et la pression qu’elle subit, ajoutant une couche émotionnelle plus réaliste et parfois glaçante.
Graphiquement, c’est une vraie réussite. Le trait est fin, élégant et expressif, avec des compositions particulièrement marquantes lors des scènes florales ou des moments les plus intenses.
Entre fantastique, drame, romance et mystère, ce premier tome propose une lecture originale, à la fois douce et sombre, qui ne ressemble à rien d’autre.

The full force of the Persades (Persephone x Hades) vibes with flower disease (bouquet syndrome) and death god, color me OBSESSED. Reminds me a smidgen of the webtoon, "Death of a Popstar"
"Listen... you have to take responsibility for letting me live. You either cherish a flower or let it wilt"(p. 55) That hits hard and really personifies the story IMO.
The MC has a horrible life. Her mother blames daughter's disease for father leaving and their resulting broken home. Her perfectionism makes her unaccepting of her daughter as she is and results in neglect and resentment. Our MC just wants to be a good girl like she remembers her father called her.
Even though the death god appears to reap our MC, he only likes to ferry souls who are weeping and pleading for life, he doesn't have the heart to take a soul otherwise, this is no exception for the MC. She actually baits him to come after her by crying. She expects him to be the one responsible for her since he restored her health to a certain degree and her mother asked her to move out because she wasn't miraculously cured.
Apart from your typical school bullying, because they're jealous of the beauty her disease affords her, and the popular guy who's actually a spiritual medium who's deeply intrigued by the MC's relationship with death and wants to banish the death kami. (He is just called a death god, but the word kami makes more sense in this context because there are like at least 1/2 a dozen death gods and so yeah...)
The evil ghost looks like Mieruko-chan style almost, I really enjoyed the details on the spooks.
Shii-kun, the death god, gets headaches when trying to remember which he was before becoming death reaper. But he remembers . We also get some clarification on the bouquet syndrome. .

Le faucheur rend visite à sa prochaine victime, une jeune fille qui semble être condamnée sur son lit de mort. Et alors qu'il ne lui reste que quelques jours avant de rendre son âme aux anges, elle ne semble pas être effrayée par la mort... Le faucheur lui, se nourrit des larmes de ses victimes alors quelle surprise quand celle-ci n'en verse aucune et finit même par lui sourire.
Je n'ai pas grand chose à dire, je vais donc recopier ce que j'ai pu noter dans mon cahier de notes durant ma lecture ;
En globalité, c'est un shojo thriller très beau et avec un thème assez intéréssant. C'est surtout les planches qui faont toute la beauté de ce manga et c'est pour ça que j'ai pu terminée le tome.
Pourquoi est-ce que je dis ça ? Parce que la FL est intéréssante, c'est vrai qu'elle change des autres personnages féminines des shojos classiques : Elle est tétue, égoiste et déterminée dans ses idées. J'ai aussi le sentiment qu'elle porte un grand intérêt sur le regard que pose les autres sur sa personne et ça crée un personnage principal qui va soit être apprécié ou tout le contraire...?
C'est pas tellement la FL qui me "meh" mais plus le personnage masculin... Pendant qu'elle montre plusieurs facettes d'un personnage, et donc une écriture intéressante, je trouve que lui manque quelque chose... Parce qu'il est juste grumpy (on se fait chier dsl), c'est tellement typiques des shojos et de la romance en général... C'est toujours le ML qui est le little grumpy black cat et #stop...
Pour terminer cette review sur une note positive, le plot twist à la fin est niceeeee, ça donne envie de lire la suite. Après je ne suis pas pressée non plus parce que ce n'est pas un coup de coeur mais why not lire la suite !?

When they match each other’s freak 😍
So, I like this A LOT.
Honestly, a “Hades x Persephone” type of story would have to be egregiously bad for me to not like it.
I mean, who doesn’t love a grumpy x sunshine story? A tall, dark, and broody reaper getting his heart of gold snatched by the literal embodiment of sunshine and flowers—who’s a *tad* unhinged herself?
I eat that up. Shoot it straight into my veins.
If you are a fan of dark, supernatural fantasy romances is that have a dash of plot on the side, this is for you.
Is it great storytelling? Maybe not. But, is it satisfying to read? Absolutely. Heck yeah.
I mean, do your fantasies involve a lot of “good girls” and “good boys”? ‘Cause this story has that—GRATUITOUSLY. I wouldn’t call this a “subtle” story, that’s for sure.
Anyway.
If any of this sounds like your jam, check this one out. I bought this volume with my own money—and I’m very satisfied~

I mean, who doesn’t love a grumpy x sunshine story? A tall, dark, and broody reaper getting his heart of gold snatched by the literal embodiment of sunshine and flowers—who’s a *tad* unhinged herself?
I eat that up. Shoot it straight into my veins.
If you are a fan of dark, supernatural fantasy romances is that have a dash of plot on the side, this is for you.
Is it great storytelling? Maybe not. But, is it satisfying to read? Absolutely. Heck yeah.
I mean, do your fantasies involve a lot of “good girls” and “good boys”? ‘Cause this story has that—GRATUITOUSLY. I wouldn’t call this a “subtle” story, that’s for sure.
Anyway.
If any of this sounds like your jam, check this one out. I bought this volume with my own money—and I’m very satisfied~

Bride of the Death God war eine kleine Überraschung.
Der Zeichenstil ist schön und sauber, besonders gut gefällt mir wie der Reaper gezeichnet ist, es schaut immer so aus als würde Tinte in eine fleckige Form gebracht für seinen Mantel und seine Sense, das hebt ihn auch gut von den anderen Figuren ab.
Die Protagonistin hat ein schwieriges Leben Zuhause durch ihre Eltern die sie nicht lieben, besonders ihre graußame Mutter. Dadurch baut man schnell Sympathie zu ihr auf und die Romanze zwischen ihr und dem Reaper war für mich zuckersüß, man hofft mit und möchte die beiden zusammen sehen.
Auch die Blumenkrankheit/der Blumenfluch der die Protagonistin plagt ist mysteriös und wird wohl so schnell nicht aufgeklärt, auch fragt man sich was es mit ihrem seltsamen neuen Mitschüler noch auf sich hat.
Alles in allem ein schöner & tragischer Shojo, ich freue mich auf die Fortsetzung!

Ohohoho this tickles me. It's a touch like the myth of Persephone and Hades but she's the manipulative one.
Main character Aibi has a condition where her body sprouts flowers to the point where she will die since it saps her life away. Shii-kun, shinigami, comes to reap her soul, however while he expects her to cry and beg for her life, Aibi meets him with smiles and welcome. He's disturbed and frustrated that she's not reacting the way he wants so he sticks around, hangs out. Slowly we see how twisted Aibi is. Then at her new school, she meets a boy whose family is into exorcisms. Add in a skirmish, Shii-kun letting her live, and a flashback to his past life, I'm intrigued.
Art is nice! I don't enjoy the text bubbles though, it's difficult to figure out whose musings are whose.

A quick and fun manga! I borrowed volume 1 from the library, they didn't have any more of the series at that location so I only have volume 1 to go off of which I always feel like isn't a great amount to judge based off but I do think based off this one I would keep reading it! Our main characters are cute and Aibi is a sweetheart. I did not expect the fighting scene because it is a fantasy & romance story but it did hold my attention so I think it'll be cool to have that other element to it. Glad I gave it a read and would recommend (tentatively as I don't know how the rest of the series will go-- will adjust if/when I read the rest).

Jeez the art is pretty!
I am reserving full judgement until volume 2, but my biggest issue here was pacing. It kept feeling like I was a ping pong ball bouncing back and forth between the action - there’s a possible rival, just kidding Aibi’s not worried about it; there’s a possible enemy, just kidding they gave up; however, now there’s a monster! I’m hoping the author finds their footing as they go, since the premise is really interesting.
I really like Shii-kun, but I am not so sure about Aibi (for now). I do like that the good-girl act is just that, an act. That being said, unsure of how I like these two together.

Die Geschichte ist interessant, jedoch mag ich die beiden Protagonisten nicht wirklich. Weder das Mädel noch der Typ sind wirkliche Sympathieträger. Mich interessiert zwar schon, welches Verbindung und welche Vergangenheit die beiden letztlich verbindet, aber wirklich begeistert bin ich nicht.
Der Zeichenstil ist für die düstere Atmosphäre zu roh und dadurch wirken die beiden Protagonisten eher psychisch gestört als wie normal denkende/handelnde Lebewesen.
Band 2 werde ich noch lesen, aber danach überlege ich mir wohl zweimal etwas von der Mangaka zu holen.

It was so weird and questionable and then really good? Unexpectedly engaging towards the end and I now need the rest of the story. I could go without the whole “good boy/good girl” thing that’s going on, but I think it’s a translation issue more than anything. It’s probably not meant to be as weird as it’s coming off, and seems to point towards more of a “good heartedness” narrative than anything… sus, ha. Anyways, slow start, but a surprising action-filled ending with a cliff hanger.
Edit to say I almost forgot to mention the theme of Hades and Persephone I really enjoyed!

Loved the art on this one. Particularly the flowers; absolutely gorgeous.
I also really enjoyed that the FMC presents as such a "good girl" but is (understandably)... not quite right. She has some real layers when you peel back her shiny happy surface.
Definitely will be bookmarking #2 and 3.

I absolutely love this book and am excited to continue on with it. Shii not getting a name till over half way though was a choice but it works to his and the stories benefit. I love this series and its the most physically beautiful book i think ive ever seen a really strong start now i need volume 2 and 3

Un premier tome intéressant avec une intrigue originale et une belle esthétique.
On nous pose plusieurs éléments intriguant auquel nous n'avons pas encore de réponses, mais la rencontre et l'évolution de la relation entre nos deux protagonistes prend forme lentement, mais sûrement.
J'aime beaucoup les mystères annoncés et les ouvertures possible à leurs sujets.
