Chemistry is an amazing branch of science that affects us every day, yet few people realize it, or even give it much thought. Without chemistry, there would be nothing made of plastic, there would be no rubber tires, no tin cans, no television, no microwave ovens, or something as simple as wax paper.
This book presents an exciting and intriguing tour through the realm of chemistry as each chapter unfolds with facts and stories about the discoveries and discoverers. Find out why pure gold is not used for jewelry or coins. Join Humphry Davy as he made many chemical discoveries, and learn how they shortened his life. See how people in the 1870s could jump over the top of the Washington Monument.
Exploring the World of Chemistry brings science to life and is a wonderful learning tool with many illustrations, biographical information, chapter tests, and an index for easy referencing.
John Hudson Tiner is a lifelong educator, and has acquired a reputation for writing clearly about science. He has wide-ranging interests, and has also written about American history and several of the sciences. He and his wife, Jeanene, live in Missouri.
2024-read as part of 10th grade homeschool chemistry course. This was super engaging and fascinating history of chemistry. Both my girls really enjoyed it and it may be the favorite chemistry book we have done yet. No experiments, and it’s only a supplement with other books as part of a whole Living Books Chemistry year, but this is well worth reading. (Middle school or High school level). We will be seeking out this authors other books for sure.
I learned a lot about chemistry in this book. I didn’t know all that much before, but this was great. I loved that it had questions at the end of a chapter. It really helped me remember everything that I learned. 👍
This book has a lot of useful information and is well worth reading. I gave it 3 stars because it’s a slow moving book that two of my kids did not enjoy much.
this book was ok it contained too much history which i didn’t like and it was super biased also it was a chem book for class so obviously i didn’t like it
The information covered in this book was good and there was a lot I learned. You will learn chemistry from a Christian point of view, and will learn the history of chemistry and those who discovered different elements, who, what, when, and how. Overall a very enjoyable chemistry book (this book is the first in the curriculum) for homeschool parents looking into a chemistry curriculum for their children. I actually liked this book but because of certain events (which have nothing to do with this book) I have to give it 1 star, So sorry :( (I really did like it!)
