Chad is an alpha paratrooper. When he swipes on Kate’s profile, there is only one thing on his mind--and on hers. He can’t date because he’s out of the country more than he’s in it. Kate doesn’t want to because she isn’t ready to let go of her freedom.
The rules are set to keep it physical. Chad hunts down bad guys for a living. When some of them come after Kate, the entire pact is about to change. The no sleepovers rule is at risk, along with everything else these two knew before their worlds crash collided.
We are a lock and a key that once sat buried in a drawer, lost and apart. The chance moment that we joined together everything clicked into place. - Kate
It will take two heads to get out of this fiasco, but are Chad and Kate compatible outside of the bedroom? Neither of them is exactly what they seem. From the depths of a hidden cave and Never-Have-I-Ever bombshell truths, their playdates become high-stakes games.
Chad is a top and an erotic empath. He’s determined to figure out everything that drives Kate wild because it turns him into a savage beast.
When you get what you want, I do as well. So then, understand your fantasies are all of my fantasies now, too. -Chad
As a protector, Chad is determined to keep Kate safe. As an anthropologist, she will do whatever she so desires. This scandalous tale is a free fall of slow-burning secrets. Sparks fly as steamy chemistry mixes with red-hot romance.
Scenes are consensual. Pack marshmallows to toast over the flames. Spice 3-4 unseeded jalapeños
Rosa Amrel lives in Texas with her angelic rescue mutts and her husband, who is her biggest fan. She holds four degrees, culminating in a doctorate. Her superpowers include being an information scientist, an anthropologist, and an advocate of human rights. She likes Captain Marvel, who can shoot fire from her fists and has nothing to prove to anyone, Anne Rice, Diana Gabaldon's Lord John Grey, coffee, rain, and books. And the kind-hearted spirit of Mr. Rogers, who told us to always look for the helpers.
2.5* rounded up. I wanted to love this book so much, especially because the author reached out personally and asked me to give it a shot. But I just didn’t. Things I loved: The social scientist aspect of Kate. I loved that we watched her character really grow. I loved that we as readers were encouraged to ask more existential questions. The history. There was lots of incredible history provided about the places they were investigating. How Chad was totally smitten with Kate
Things I hated: There was no resolution about the Brian stuff. They went from not dating officially to him proposing and her saying yes then changing her mind ? It was very confusing The reveal about her and her family. The writing was simple and all over the place. There was lots of inconsistency and you would think they were in one place, and then boom suddenly the story would completely change. Chad being called “the wolf”. It just gave me the ick when she’d call him that in the bedroom. The spice was poorly written and scenes were poorly timed. Oh no people are trying to kill us and we have to be super quiet? Let’s have sex! Like huh??? So much was left unfinished. What happened to Benji? Last we heard he’d been tied up? The epilogue had nothing to do with Kate or Chad and was written from the perspective of James, who’s been a minor side character up until that point. What happened with the mission? What happened with all of kate’s research? Was she able to prove that the oil companies couldn’t be there because the land is sacred??
I normally fly through books in a day or two but this one took me almost a week. I was sluggish because I just wasn’t engaged at any point in the story. If the author hadn’t personally reached out, it probably would’ve been a DNF.
This book had so much potential but it just felt like too many tropes and storylines were being shoved into it which made it unfortunately fall apart. I feel like this entire story could be rewritten and be so much better if some of the extra storylines are removed.
