Marae O'Conaire has much bigger problems than the fact her watch stopped at 3:57 p.m. When she brings her watch to a kindly repairman, she learns she has won a peculiar prize, a chance to re-live a single hour of her life. But Fate has strict rules about how one can go poking in the past, including the warning that she can't do anything that would create a time-paradox. Can Marae make peace with the mistake she regrets most in this world?
Anna Erishkigal is an attorney who writes fantasy fiction as an alternative to cross-examining her children. She writes under a pen-name so her colleagues don't question whether her legal pleadings are fiction as well. Much of law, it turns out, -is- fantasy fiction. Lawyers just prefer to call it 'zealously representing your client.'
Seeing the dark underbelly of life makes for some interesting fictional characters. The kind you either want to incarcerate, or run home and write about. In fiction, you can fudge facts without worrying too much about the truth. In legal pleadings, if your client lies to you, you look stupid in front of the judge.
At least in fiction, if they become troublesome you can always kill them off.
Absolutely loved it. The story was so touching and exciting. It was a great story about a girl who could go back for one hour into the past. Really good 😊
Well if this would not be litteraly only fiction book on Google book in my mother language l would never ever imagine reading it. I read mostly in English so was little bit over excited seeing ebook in my mother language. But maybe l should of skipped it. Short and poorly written.
In 'The Watchmaker,' Anna Erishkigal weaves a poignant short read around a theme from Norse mythology. Time is a gift, and sometimes, a last chance. A young woman named Marae uses both well here, but you should discover the details for yourself. I thoroughly enjoyed this story.
Goodreads encourages authors to rate and review their own books and then plasters it at the top so it's the first review you see. It would be disengenuous for me to claim something such as 'this is the greatest book EV-AH' since of course I am biased, so how about we use this space to answer questions people feel like asking about what prompted me to write a story about three magical watches which could move around in time? See that little Ask the Community about this book box just a bit beneath this review? Go ahead. Ask your question. And if it's not too terribly spoilery, I'll be happy to answer it as best I can :-)
Oxalá fosse possivél voltar ao um ponto de viragem e começar todo novamente, esquecendo saudade vivida. Assim seja uma só coisa que pudesse mudar. Eu realmente gostei do livro, é pequeno, mas tem un monte de sentimento.
This is a sort of romance dressed up as a time travel tale that uses a watch as the McGuffin to get things moving.
The story consists largely of the main character thinking about how they could change the past while running through the city.
After the watchkeeper tells her how she cannot change the past, she ends up violating his rules. He explains how at the least, such an attempt will result in the same outcome, or at the worst a freezing her in a time loop. Despite the warnings about the negative consequences, there are no negative consequences after she changes the past.
Read it for the romantic aspect. Not very good as fantasy.
the only part that I enjoyed was that it is written in Norwegian simple enough for me to understand. Else, poorly written characters in a forseeable tale about timetravelling for love-confessions.
