**PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS WRITTEN LIKE A DIARY SO IT DOES NOT HAVE CHAPTERS IN IT****Have you ever wondered if the person you see everyday always had it together? Do you ever wonder where they've been or what they've been thru? Langston Hughes said it best when he said "life for me ain't been no crystal stair".Take a journey with me into my life as I tell you a tale from my childhood up into adulthood and air out all my dirty laundry....
Though I started reading the series at the end instead of at the beginning, I felt I had some reverse catching up to do in order to get the best out of Tisha's story. Lucky for me, not so much! It was of course interesting to learn about her dysfunctional beginning that lead her to where she ended in the last story in the sequel; it all makes sense. It is amazing to me how much insight she had though she continued to live the life that defines insanity. Insanity is often defined as engaging in the same nonsensical behavior time and time again but expecting a different outcome. However, I'm not sure Tisha expected a different outcome or necessarily cared for that matter, she only lived for the moment knowing she was a comedy of errors and just trying to make it. I completely admired her tenacity despite her horrific circumstances which were in constant change mode, because she had a goal based on academics and allowed nothing or no one to deter her from her goal, even herself. The choice to enlist in the military caught me completely off guard however, and I just didn't see that coming. It also surprised me that she made the disastrous sexual choices she made due to the life she was privy to seeing her mother and every other female in her life live. I know children normally make one of two choices coming from extremely dysfunctional families and that is either to mimic what was modeled or be determined to an unhealthy fault sometimes, to do the opposite of what was modeled. I desperately wanted Tisha to choose the latter and I found that to be a disappointment but to date she hadn't let that choice steer her off course either, but now she's pregnant at the best time in her formulating years which is the worst time in the process of building her life. This is more than a story......
The book was inspirational,I applaud anyone that was able to over-look their upbringings and do something for him or herself. I too have a very sad story to tell, which one day I will when God puts it in my heart to do so. In the meantime, we survivors of child-abuse and neglect have a mission to fulfill. That mission is to be mentor to those that are going thou it, because they don't have a clue that there is another life waiting for him or her. NEVER GIVE UP is my life motto and the only suggestion I have for now
Minus a few words within a sentence being repeated this turned out to be a good read. It's amazing what a person is able to go through and still keep a level head regardless of any negativity. So many people seem to think that because a person doesn't look run down then they've never really experienced any hurt or pain. Never judge a person simply because they don't look like what they've been through and you don't know their story.
One never knows what goes on behind closed doors. Being sent from house to house as a young girl and still excelling in school is great for this young lady. She spiraled out of control at one point following in da same path as her biological mama. Great read!!!!!!
