Maid to Crave by Rebecca Avery
Man Maid book 2
Maid to Crave is book 2 in the Main Maid series. It is the first book I’ve read by Rebecca Avery, it was part of a 4 book collection I rented through my library and Overdrive. Sadly this was painful to get through. I literally had to force myself to finish this book. The story line had so much potential I just felt like this was a horribly novice writing style and it just didn’t work for me.
Tori Stewart is a single mom to a 6 year old boy. Her friend recommends using the Man Maid service that she had luck using (and finding love). She agrees just hoping to not get the one Maid that makes her heart flutter, Seth Lewis.
Seth Lewis is a former military man who comes to work for his friend at Man Maid services. He is working not only as a Maid but as a stripper to pay for his brothers medical bills. He remembers Tori from a wedding a little bit back but doesn’t see her other than his potential boss.
Tori and Seth realize they can become friends and maybe then morph it into something more. Like I said, this story had such great promise but the writing really killed it for me. I would like think I would give this author another chance at her writing style but I can’t say that for sure just yet.

He's a sexy womanizer, she's a "nerdy" single mom. And he has to clean her house and be her errand boy.
Outside of the pretty unbelievable concept that a smoking hot former soldier is incredibly thoughtful and good at cooking and cleaning (I could have gotten there if it was done well), this book just didn't deliver. It was giving 90s teen drama where the girl takes off her glasses and suddenly she's hot.
Writing was pretty wooden, characters were two dimensional and there were too many weird / unbelievable situations. I'll suspend my belief for a good romance but this was not it. DNF

What else would an Army veteran do upon retirement but join his former commander's company, Man Maid!
Whoring around Beavercreek, OH is simply too much fun for Sergeant First Class Seth Lewis, the newest Man Maid (and part-time exotic dancer). Seth is nervous to work for his newest employer, the very nerdy and meek single mom Tori Stewart. The dowdy woman makes him squirm, but he needs the money to help pay for his brother's medical bills and she needs the help, so the unlikely pair go for it.
Tori has a history of falling hard for the hot guy, only to get her heart broken. She does whatever she can to make herself look plain and simple so she will only attract plain and simple men. The kind of man who embodies stability. She wants anyone other than the incredibly rude (and ridiculously sexy) Seth on the job. Since she heard Seth making fun of her…attributes…she wants nothing to do with him. But Seth is deeper than she gave him credit for, and soon the two realize that their first impressions were completely wrong. Will they have the courage to move past their preconceptions and into a future with one another?
MAID TO CRAVE is the second book in Rebecca Avery's Man Maid series and the first story in the Harlequin Contemporary Romance Box Set Volume 2. I had to immediately suspend reality a bit to believe a higher ranking Army guy would be content washing dishes and doing laundry…and getting nekked and dirty with random screaming women on a regular basis. It sounds sexy. Who doesn't want a yummy delicious man doing some household hard labor before giving you a lap dance...but I digress.
I liked the underlying theme of MAID TO CRAVE of not judging a book by its cover and getting to know the person underneath the glasses or flirty smile. But I'm not entirely convinced that Tori is the right woman for Seth quite frankly. Even though he's a slutty and cocky stripper/man maid, he has a heart of gold and works so hard to make up for the rude words he said about Tori, while she just continues to make snide remarks and generally be rude to him.
Eventually she moves on and the relationship flips and it feels like Seth is completely taking advantage of Tori's attraction to him. I don't particularly care for the ugly duckling storyline either, and their connection seemed completely superficial and solely based on looks on both sides. Seth's constant comments about her being a nerd and geek but now she's hot and she's so dull but man she's dressing SO much nicer…not a relationship made in heaven for me.
Also disappointing was the lack of sex. When it finally did happen between the two, it was very anticlimactic. There was some foreplay…then…the afterglow. Very disappointing. Overall, this was rather frustrating but decently written.

2.5 Stars. *Read as part of a boxed set.*
The writing is not great. There aren't glaring grammatical errors or anything like that, just the voice and style are...immature? Perhaps underdeveloped is the better term. But that is almost secondary to the fact that the characters and situations usually aren't believable at all. Stripper-becomes-soldier-becomes-stripper-becomes-architect? Not realistic. It's also not realistic because it doesn't seem like this guy has ever seen combat—there are no lingering memories or issues, no old injuries, nothing. He must have been the luckiest soldier ever, because it seems as though he either had the unique ability to not think about the past at all, or he was never in a kill-or-be-killed situation, or pinned under fire, or seen "bad shit." And Tori just seemed juvenile. She has a 6 year old son, but she acts like a virgin teenager at times. The saving grace of the book was Zach, despite the unrealistic circumstances of his sudden ability to read because he sang a song. He was cute, and it was sweet how the guys were with him at times (Ian bench pressing him, Seth helping him with his homework, going to the gym with the men, etc).

This book was party of a boxed set but I wanted to review it individually as well.
I liked the concept of the book but sadly I didn't like the execution as much.
Tori is a single mother in need of a housekeeper. Enter Seth, a former Army soldier who is now part of a male house cleaning business. Seth was nice enough if not a bit of a self-proclaimed women's man. He's also an exotic dancer when he isn't cleaning houses. He does this so he can pay for medical bills for his brother (that's a nice thing to do)
Tori on the other hand is very self-deprecating. And that is where I ran into trouble with the book. If I read that she was a nerd/nerdy once I read it fifteen times. It because over kill very quickly. If Tori wasn't saying it than Seth was using the term to describe her as well.
I did like how Seth got along with Tori's son.

this is not the maid business, it should be marraige/ dating/ looking for boyfriend business.
i am not enjoy reading the book, not the nature, is.... the presentation way...
