Three popular authors present a trio of romantic tales set in Regency England, including Lynn Collum's "The Scandalous Bride," "The Heiress Bride" by Mona Gedney, and Nancy Lawrence's "The Romantic Bride." Original.
There are 3 short stories here: 1. The Scandalous Bride ~ Very good concept of an Irish champion race horse (that can only be managed by its owner~jockey) being taken to York for the races. The problem is, the owner is a girl. I think the romance angle is too abrupt for the main characters to even develop a spark of affection for each other. 2. The Heiress Bride ~ This is the best of the three, for me. Alexa just lost her parents and also her home. Her best option is to go to her next of kin for sanctuary and survival. Her destination is at the languid Mrs. Latroph's domicile, tailor~made for Alexa's managing nature and a panacea for her grief. It turned out that her late father's investments on the trustworthy Captain Derringer's ships' paid off after all; and soon her re~investments earned her a fortune. Alexa Howard is a plucky, self~assured and sensible heroine who now needs to ford a path for her next journey to life and for that we need a hero. Enter Philip Forest, in need of an "heiress"? 3. The Romantic Bride ~ A bit awkward because of Helen's bad memories during their childhood concerning Edmund;s pranks. The awkwardness did not seem to diminish for me, even though they were supposed to have moved past that stage. It lacked spontaneity.
