Written "for men by a man".

A short, somewhat sardonic paternal logistical guide to parenting--from pregnancy on to the first year. The book goes above and beyond the practical 'For Dummies' angle to serve as a sometimes crass, matter-of-fact instruction manual--complete with directions, checklists, tips, and hints for most standard instances a father is likely to encounter.

Generally the writing style is endearing, and the medical information is both accurate and simply explained. The visual aid illustrations and 50's style photos are a quirky touch that makes the whole experience more entertaining and gentler on the eyes.

Favorite Quotes:

*"I could say at this point that it's not your fault, that women's bodies undergo major hormonal shifts as they prepare for motherhood, but I won't lie to you. It's entirely your fault. That's why it's a good idea to arm yourself with knowledge, an extra dose of patience, and perhaps a 12-year-old single malt."

*"As tempting as it might be to dress baby to look like a cherub in a fluffy bunny outfit, try to avoid gimmicky baby clothes. On the other hand, having a good laugh at baby's expense just might help lighten the mood."

*"While the various nuances of baby's diarrhea may be fascinating to you, don't burden friends and relatives with details."
