Love Like Jesus: Reaching Others with Passion and Purpose

Rate this book
Winning Souls Starts With Loving People

Christian evangelism has too often focused on "winning souls" to the exclusion of meeting real, everyday needs. Yet Jesus' earthly ministry followed a different He reached for people on the margins. He touched people no one else would touch. He spoke hope to people consumed by despair. And as the Lord extended Himself in compassion to meet the needs of the sick, the lost, and the hopeless, people turned their hearts to Him. Love Like Jesus will help you follow Jesus' pattern for changing lives. You will learn the importance of placing your confidence in Him alone, of staying faithful through seasons of unfruitfulness, of facing your fears with courage, and much more. Most of all, you will catch a vision of God's unfathomable love for every person, and get the tools you need to share it with people in need of a Savior.

I want to start this review with a quite from 'Love Like Jesus' that I think sums up what it meant to me.
" Until we are more confident in God and His Word than we are scared for our own well-being and reputation, we will never launch into people's lives."

Judah Smith gave us this quote about halfway through the book and it calls out the reader with how most Christians are today. They feel that they have their faith but they are too scared to go out and spread the Gospel to others.

In this book, Judah goes mainly through the books of Matthew and Luke, with some excerpts from Ephesians and Romans. We are taken through how we as Christians need to put aside our fears of what people will think of is and just use our love of Jesus and project that towards others we are trying to bring to Christ. In the book, Mr. Smith provides us with personal accounts from individuals who attend The City Church where he is the Lead Pastor. In these stories, it shows us that most people are brought to Christ not because their friends and family are always badgering them about going to Church and that if they don't go they are going to Hell, but instead Loving them like Jesus would. Showing them how their lives have been changed by Him.

This book gives you the push you need to get into the lives of those unsaved in your city. Jesus wants us to be "Fishers of Men" according to Paul's story in the book of Luke. We need to let down all of our concerns about ourselves and just follow Jesus. As Judah put it, "Winning Souls starts with Loving People".

I will close with another quote that stuck out to me, and shows how Christians today news to have courage to face our fears.

"Fear is perhaps the greatest enemy of every soul winner. To overcome fear, we must face it. Sometimes we think that by doing outrageous feats we will overcome our fears. Not so! Fear is only overcome and dealt with when we make a focused, daily decision to walk in courage."

There are times that I find it hard to place all of my confidence in God. I will catch myself trying to do it all especially during the hard times. All God wants us to do is trust Him and Love Like Him. Love Like Jesus Reaching others with Passion and Purpose is a wonderful book that encourages us to read God’s Holy Word, and let it show in our everyday life and in everything we do. If people see God in me then I can win souls for Christ.

Compassion is a big word and is something that Jesus lived out all His days on this earth, either by healing the sick, helping the lost, raising the dead, and so many more ways. Love Like Jesus will give us the tools that we need to share the gospel with the lost. When it’s all about God, God will win.

*Thank you to Regal for providing me a copy of this book for my honest review*

This book was a great read I read it as a personal devotion and was an encouragement in my faith. To push out and launch out to the deep and be more proactive and step out in faith in sharing the gospel other than from stool on friday nights. This book talks about a pastors ministry with lots of personal stories and testimonies with short and easy to read chapters before bed.

A little simplistic, but I enjoyed the message. I think this would be a good book for someone who is not an avid reader and looking to be encouraged or encourage others to show a more loving attitude.

“Karen, Aku mengasihimu.”

Judah Smith truly has a way with motivating Christians to spread love. In this world we could all use more love. Judah wrote this book over 10 years ago. And his vision for “church” hasn’t changed. This man practices what he preaches. We could all use Jesus! Great book to read a chapter each day!

This book very easily gets you excited to go talk to your neighbor about Jesus , but in a bible bashing sense (good riddance). Awesome examples of who we should be in Christ and how to get people to recognize the goodness of his glory. Would recommend to students.
