Determine Your Future by the Words You Speak Today ""Words satisfy the soul as food satisfies the stomach; the right words on a person's lips bring satisfaction."--"Proverbs 18:30, NLT We all know that words carry enormous power--the power to heal or to wound, to encourage or to dishearten, to speak truth or to deceive, to praise or to criticize. They can be the key to our success or the reason for our downfall. So, how do we harness that power? How do we learn to use our words to their greatest potential? "The Power of Your Words" will take you on a journey of discovery into more than just the obvious impact your words can have. Find out how to live more freely; how to connect more meaningfully; how to undo the damage of your words; and, most important, how to pause, ponder and then pray before speaking. Robert Morris wants you to know that good words last, and they carry enormous power to help, heal, encourage and move us to a greater level of living.

Few books have me convicted with every single page I turn. This book is a wealth of wisdom that is much needed in our world. Rooted in biblical truth, the author masterfully teaches that our words really are a matter or life and death. Everyone should read this!!
This book has totally transformed the way I speak! I have to remind myself often and work hard at what I do say but I'd rather speak life than death. I want my words to line up with His Word, bottom line!
A Christian book with a biblical basis; love that this doesn't back the prosperity gospel viewpoint. If it doesn't convict and correct, the Word of God always does, it's not grounded in the word of God. I read this book and repented, instantly seeing the profound truths this book highlights in the scriptures.
I knew of Robert Morris from watching a few of his videos on YouTube, so I knew I was not going to agree with his take on how powerful our words are. I fully expected to see a full blown copy of Joel Osteen's model of positive affirmations and declarations. But Morris was tipped off to the negative reactions that Osteen has been getting lately apparently and made sure he discussed how this book was not going to be a name it, claim it book. And he carefully avoided that with a careful avoidance of specific words to use to gain God's favor. The result though was 153 pages of saying nothing much at all. Well, he did talk about his belief in three baptisms and the necessity of tongues, which he defines as the language of angels. He discusses how saying negative things though can lead to giving permission for the spirit of depression and other evil occurrences to enter our lives but carefully avoids exactly what to say to bring power into our lives other than to speak positively. To his credit, he does explain the Gospel fairly well to include repentance and trust in Christ for salvation but, alas, this is never enough for these folks. We must also have power and signs and wonders. Robert Morris appears to be smart enough to avoid extremes in his writing but just can't help himself at times. His poor exegesis of how Abram became Abraham would be comical (he sees the added "ah" as representing the breath of the Holy Spirit or Holy Spirit baptism) if it did not highlight the poor state of his flock at Gateway Church who must be starving for solid teaching from God's Word. This book is not about power and has little to do with God's Word!
There are several chapters in this book that provided edification specifically about the power of the tongue with scripture backed guidance on how to harness it for good. He wanders off into a theological interpretation on “speaking in tongues” that seems to lead readers astray. I am sure he may mean well but it left this reader with concerns about his teachings.
Really good first 2/3 on how our words have power and influence how we interact with God and the world as a Christian. The part about the Spirit and speaking in tongues made less sense. I could see some of the premise in that the Spirit works through us and speaks through us in terms of helping us choose words that reflect Christ and help in a specific situation. But there isn't need to go further. Disappointed by that section.
An excellent book that encourages every Christian believer to pause, ponder, and pray. I was challenged to consider the weight of every word as being a source of either life or destruction. When we give our language to God, He restores our ability to speak life and hope to ourselves and others. This is an encouraging book and well written with many examples, illustrations, and scripture.
Great book. It helps look at life in a more loving and positive way.
It helps guide you . It strengthens your beliefs in Christ. This book confirms many doubts we have about our existence and improved the well being of oneself. I totally recommend this book to the believer and unbeliever in Our Lord Jesus Christ.
It's always a good thing to remember to watch your tongue. He goes further and says we're to ask the LORD to help us control it. Good point, because not many have succeeded in controlling it alone.
Tongues - I've never heard tongues described the way he describes it in this book. I'm not sure what to think of it. I want the LORD to guide my thoughts on that controversial issue.
From the book -- "No longer shall your name be Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you a father of many nations." (Gen 17:5) Compare the 2 names. Two letters are added to the name "Abram" to create "Abraham" -- the letters A and H. This is the hebrew root word 'ah, which in the Old Testament, is used to refer to breath, or the breath of God, spirit, or the Spirit of God, or the Life of God.--"As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall be her name (Gen. 17:15) -- In Sarai's name God takes out the selfish "I" and replaces it with the "ah" of His Spirit.
I like how Robert Morris explained how influential our words are in life and explained all of the scriptures about the tongue. He really did a good job of explaining the different sins of our tongue and how important praise is. I am thankful that my friend Susie sent this book to me to read. I will probably read it again.
Morris spends the first part of the book on James and what James said. If you recall, James talks about the tongue. Morris also brings up and discusses the three baptisms. Thought provoking and well worth the read. I'll be searching his other books
Really good book on our words. Convicting at times and leaves me with a desire to do much better. Although he gets into some controversial tongue topics, I appreciated all of the scripture to back it up! Good book!!
Excellent book!! Makes me think about the words I speak. "Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit." Proverbs 18:21
Robert Morris is truly blessed! This book has so much insight. It was not at all what I expected and I am so glad! It's practical, it's spiritual and it is exactly what I needed!
