Caleb’s life was simple, middle of the lane. He wasn't dirt poor, but he was living paycheck to paycheck, working a minimum wage job and eeking by in his life in the southern Appalachian mountains.

Then there was the day of the accident and his introduction to the feline that would change his entire life, for better and worse. Caleb begins to question his sanity as well as his luck, but soon begins to wonder exactly what kind of monkey's paw situation has he found himself in?

Darkling Cloud was just a cat…right? And if she wasn't, then what was she and how scared should Caleb be? All he knew was that the bodies were piling up, and as his reality began to disintegrate, Caleb was no longer sure he wanted to know the truth.

About the author

Amanda Leanne began reading at a very young age and has been writing since grade school. She is a prolific reader, book collector, and writer with an interest in all aspects of art including sewing, painting, sculpting, jewelry design, soapmaking, and various other hobbies. After spending nearly a decade working on her degrees in forensic sciences, abnormal behavioral science, and neurological psychology with the prospect of joining the FBI ViCAP unit, Amanda's health took a turn for the worse. Daily struggles with her medical issues hasn't stopped her from pursuing her childhood aspirations to become an author. She currently lives with her spouse (Kris), her son, and their menagerie in the mountains of Northern Alabama. Leanne writes non-fiction books as well as fictional novels. Her non-fiction books delve into topics such as medical conditions, true crime, lifestyles, and crafting. What's to say about this? If you're a lover of cats, i think you'll definitely like this. If you're looking for gore and lots of death.... no, this isn't it. If you're looking for something supernatural, cooky, pull at your heartstrings, and a dab of the dark, then this is definitely for you. Not only that, there are a couple splashes of lore as well! When I nabbed this, i did at first think there would be a bit more darker themes, but there is some darkness in this book. It's just on the lighter side. Don't go into this book thinking extreme horror or any of that. I enjoyed this as it definitely was a nice break from the darker reads I have been reading lately. Also, you get more than just one person's POV, and I'm always down for that!

Finding a kitten after a wreck and taking it home, what's the worst that could happen? Or perhaps it's the best? Depends on who you ask. Things seem to be going well all of a sudden for Caleb, but is it all just a coincidence? Of course it seems that people are also dying... and are the shadows moving, or is it his imagination? What's really going on, and is all this really worth it? Read to find out.

I actually really enjoyed this start to finish. I had no idea where it was going to go and the ending! Ah, my heart! Of course, just as a simple warning, it does leave off with a cliffhanger. As the title says, it's only part one, so more is to come, and I can't wait to see what happens next!
