Over the years so many books of "facts" have proved to contain information that is incomplete, anecdotal, or actually spurious, that I spot check the entries. One of the entries in this book claims that if you were told that Christians were fed to lions in the Colosseum, you were lied to. Lied to is strong language. The author also claims that the Colosseum was built after the earliest Christian persecutions. Further, he claims that at the time it was built, the Roman government was enlightened concerning religion and people could worship whatever gods they wished. The Colosseum was built around 80 AD. Official persecution of Christians ended around 300 AD. My dates may be off a few decades, but the point is that Christians were persecuted well after the Colosseum was built. There are surviving records of Christians being thrown to animals, though there do not seem to be specific references to lions. However, the Romans threw so many people to lions, that it seems likely that some were Christians. The claim that Christians lied to entertain people with tales of brave martyrs and to gain followers is spurious.
The book also contains the oft repeated and likely apocryphal story about the British dropping a wooden bomb on a wooden German dummy airfield. Snopes classifies this story as fiction. It was likely a morale boosting joke.
One more example: the author claims that the Roman Emperor Claudius' wife engaged in a contest with a prostitute for which she was executed. Claudius had more than one wife. The only one I recall being executed was Messalina who was executed for conspiring against the Emperor. Messalina was a powerful political force with many enemies who spread stories about her which exaggerated her activities and appetites. This particular story is usually regarded as one of those exaggerations. Even were it true, it was not the cause of her execution. Her lust for power not her other lusts was the cause of her death.
My policy is very simple. If a book contains information which I know to be wrong, I do not accept things which I do not know about as fact. Oh wow, was this a cool read. It is exactly what the title says.
There are some really fun and interesting facts and trivia in this book. My favorite is the one I used as my quote above and just about melted my heart. I love Sea Otters. I mean..are they cute or what? It must be so nice to be a sea otter.Falling asleep, while holding hands in the water..so cool.
Here are a few other gems:
Mosquitoes, for some unknown reason, prefer to bite children over adults. And blondes over brunettes. Yikes!!
The show "Friends" was originally going to possibly have a different title. Some of the runner ups included: Insomnia Café or Once upon a Time in the West Village.
There is a real condition called the Paris syndrome and symptoms include depression and nausea due to people realizing that the city isn’t as beautiful as they previously thought it would be I am not making this up.
The first time Led Zeppelin played "Stairway to Heaven" the audience got bored and booed them, demanding to hear something that they(the audience) were familiar with.
There is so much more. It's a fun book and covers facts from music and film, to wars and royalty to current events. Very enjoyable read and highly recommended.

This is a compilation of trivia and facts. Some of them are quite remarkable. With the world as its source the subjects are quite diverse. The book has ten subheadings: Animals, War, Capitol Cities, Ancient Civilizations, TV and Film. Royalty, Mysteries, Music and Everything Else. This is the perfect companion for the toilet. No, I’m not suggesting you throw it away but it is perfect for those restful moments you must spend while answering nature’s call.
For a number of years a serial killer roamed Columbia, killing victim after victim. After the body count reached 300, the police had just about enough clues to identify the perpetrator, Pedro Lopez, and thankfully caught him. At his trial he pleaded insanity and was sent to a mental asylum. Just four years later the doctors there declared Lopez sane and released him. His current whereabouts is unknown. This is just the kind of literary snack to get the blood pressure up and the grey matter working. It may not be the right kind of book to put in your bedside table but as aforementioned, the bathroom may prove the perfect domicile.

I Want My Time Back
This book is not just boring, it is boring and stupid. I could better have spent my time soaking my feet in a foot bath, followed by a pedicure and at the end, painting my toenails a color called " Missy Tombstone Green. " Don't make the mistake I did, of thinking a little trivia might be fun. It is not!

This was great for a quick read. Some of the facts were really random and I hadn't read them before. The only thing that stopped me from giving a 4 star review was the ad's...far too many! However, if you have a spare 10 minutes it's worth a read.

This book was pretty interesting. The facts are quite different from each other. I didn't know most of them. But most of them are simply very interesting.

Certainly a quick and easy read. It was hard to ignore the grammatical and spelling errors though, and a bit strange to find several of them throughout the book.

To be honest, I don't know exactly whether the facts writen in the book are the true facts or not. Some of them known as rumors. So, for the important facts for me I did some rechecks to ensure whether it is true or not. In effect this kind of book deserves to question its accuracy because the writer doesn't show any citations. The writer suppose make footnotes cited other documents to make sure that these all are not rumors, but the truth (unspoken). That would be more interesting.

Another cheesy sunday reading. It contains some interesting funfacts, but unfortunately without any references or details.
For examle it says: "One of the most astounding discoveries in the history of humankind was made in Turkey (..) An ancient burial complex was discovered (...)" so it goes... No name of the city, no citation, nothing... At least, give us a city name?

Pretty decent book. I finished it in one sitting since it was quite short and easy to read. The book is split into different categories (10 facts for 10 categories + 1 fun fact about Shakespeare). Some of them were not really interesting to me (such as sports and even music) but there were some I really enjoyed like Julius Caesar's bargain with the pirates or the facts about certain animals. Overall it is a good book and I got it free from the store. It seems the author has a lot of fact books about other things as well, it could be interesting to read those as well. Recommended!

A Book for Everyone!
The audiobook 101 Amazing Facts by Jack Goldstein, Narrated by J. Scott Bennett is great for people who love trivia and random facts! I'm a teacher, and I hold trivia challenges for my high school students each week, so I was super excited when I saw this fun listen! The book is organized well. It is broken up into themes (see below) and each theme includes 10 facts. As each fact is presented, the narrator reads the fact number, making it easy to refer back to certain ones, or find your place, if necessary.
At the beginning of the book, there is a brief introduction that preps the reader/listener for what they are about to hear by immediately engaging us with....yup, you guessed it, some AMAZING FACTS! Here are the included themes in this audiobook:
1. Animals - Perfect theme to start with! It engages us right away because who doesn't love animals?! I enjoyed all of these opening facts, especially the one about sea otters...awe!
2. War - I would have put this section as the 3rd or 6th theme...I went from being fully engaged to zoning out a little bit. That is just personal opinion, though. History buffs will greatly enjoy this war-themed section! This audiobook includes themes that appeal to everyone, making for a well-rounded listen!
3. Capital Cities - The first fact in this section grabbed my attention and helped me jump right back into the book! Also, pay extra attention to fact #29! Fabulous job, J. Scott Bennett! The narration here is awesome! That doesn't "just happen." You are GOOD!
4. Ancient Civilizations - I definitely will be listening to this section again! Not only did I enjoy the information presented here, but I paused it and bookmarked parts so that I could come back to it later. I couldn't help but spend some time online looking up more information about some of the facts that sparked an interest in me. :-)
5. TV and Film - I LOVED these facts! So much fun! They are about shows and actors many of us are familiar with, but it passed so quickly...I want more!
6. Royalty - Informative and interesting! I particularly enjoyed Fact #56...wow! Really?! I never knew that! I enjoy learning about royalty, well, because I do not have the joy of living that lifestyle. After hearing some of these facts, though, perhaps my life is just fine how it is! :-)
7. Mysteries - I think this is my absolute favorite section in the book! It's like watching an episode of unsolved mysteries. You should create an audibook of 101 Facts just on this section alone. If you enjoy unexplained mysteries and unsolved cases this is the theme for you! You will especially enjoy fact #70!
8. Music - Ha! Fact #73 is great! This section is short and sweet. I liked these facts, as will all music lovers. It would be cool to buy an audiobook about musicians and facts about their music that was geared strictly toward teens/young adults because I could use it in the classroom! They would love it! Also, it was great to hear fact #80 about Princess Diana! :-)
9. Sports - I knew there had to be a section included about sports. I'm sure there are tons of books out there with tons of interesting sports facts...they are fun for me to listen to because they are always so outrageous! Really? Hole-in-one insurance in Japan...hahahaaa!
10. Everything Else - This section is awesome! It includes facts that don't easily fit into one of the themes mentioned above. I kept wondering what the last theme would be...the "Everything Else" section was a great choice! I loved fact #101 about Shakespeare! I never knew that...thanks!
Overall, I rate the audiobook 101 Amazing Facts by Jack Goldstein, Narrated by J. Scott Bennett 5/5 stars across the board. Jack Goldstein's inclusion of such a wide variety of facts, kept my interest throughout. I liked that it was brief and to the point, without any unnecessary elaboration, because it allowed the book to keep moving forward.
The narration was awesome! J. Scott Bennett has a voice that is pleasing to the ear. He presents the information in a way that is easy to understand, and his pronouciation is superb and well-practiced (once again, refer to Fact #29!!). This is the 2nd book I have listened to him narrate, and I hope to hear more in the future. His voice is inviting and calm, and I can hear his cheerful attitude shine through his words. I enjoy his work as a narrator!
The audiobook was a PERFECT length, in my opinion. Any shorter would have made it feel like a part/sample of a book, and any more would have been repetitive and possibly caused boredom or given the feeling of dragging on. 101 facts (10 themes, broken up into 10 facts each...well, 11 for theme 10) was just enough to keep my interest, while staying entertained throughout! It was about an hour long and included facts that appeal to the trivia and fact lover in all of us! Some facts are informative, making you think and want to learn more, while others were unbelievably interesting, causing me to say, "OMGosh! No way!" I learned a ton of info that I didn't know before, and I hope there is more to come! Perhaps, 101 Amazing Facts Part #2? Please? Also, now that I am one step ahead the others in the fact game, feel free to add me to your phone-a-friend list. I'll be waiting for your call! :-)

If you want to read an on the edge of your seat with your heart in your throat, can't put it down type story then this third book in the series is for you, it's the best one yet. It is exciting, full of action, battles, danger, sorrow, love and beauty. I'm not going to rehash the story because you can read that in the blurb and it would be hard not to give anything away because there is a lot that happens and some really great twists. The characters lodge in your heart and the author makes you feel their pain, loss and love in her writing. Even though the ending of the story was excellent, I was sorry to leave these characters behind and wanted to read more of their lives in the future. This book is a captivating story that has intrigue, betrayal, hope, devastation and veins of love that run throughout. Fantastic end to the series.

October 30, 2019Jack Goldstein's "101 Amazing Facts" is a great read. When reading this book it opens your eyes to new things that I never knew before. The facts he presents are either on the humorous side, but interesting or there things that will blow your mind. This book can be considered a quick read and it covers topics from war, music, movies, royalty, and just fun trivia facts. Although the book can be boring, I found it quite interesting because of the new knowledge I gained, even though I would not call it anything special. I would recommend this book to someone who is looking for a quick read and is interested in learning cool and interesting trivial facts.

The facts are grouped into categories. After two or three pages, there is a you might like this trivia book link. Most make sense. For example,Baxter reading trivia facts about royalty, it suggests a book on trivia about Queen Elizabeth. Other suggestions might leave you scratching your head. After the section on music trivia, their suggestion is a mythology trivia book. Some of the facts seemed incomplete. The best example is one from the sports section. It says the Harlem Globetrotters have named right honorary members and then proceeds to name four of them. Still a nice sampling of trivia.

This was a free offering on Amazon; it's a short, quick read with a bunch of random facts. It covers a variety of topics in a number of categories.
Some of the facts were quite interesting; some of them were more or less rumors. It's an okay book to read when you have a few minutes. I don't know that I'd go out of my way for it, but I don't have any regrets in reading it either. As I said, it's a quick read to fill in a few minutes and when you're looking for something a little different.

The issue with fact books is that they can date very quickly after publication as things change. It helps to have sources for facts as well to allow the reader to easily confirm the facts. Sometimes inaccuracies or false facts can skip into a book like this.
This one wasn't awful but it was quite short and not hugely interesting with a few facts that are now outdated (2022)
It seemed full of more advertisements for other fact books than actual facts.

One of my favorite factoids shared by the author is that sea otters hold each other's paws while they sleep so they don't drift too far apart. This is a charming book of facts about several subjects, including animals, war, capital cities, royalty, mysteries, and much more. The author used a clever way of introducing his alternate book offerings by inserting them between chapters. He certainly offers books on many topics.

I'm not sure whether this even counts as a book really as it is really just a collection of facts under various headings including animals, ancient civiiisations and sport. Like many similar books it is fun and entertaining, but there were only a few times where I thought the fact was so unusual or amazing that I felt the need to look into it in a bit more depth. This was a short and pleasant trifle.

This book is part of a series titled “101 Amazing Facts About...” of which I have read several. They are all relatively short and quick reads but packed with interesting facts. This one titled “101 Amazing Facts” touches on a great variety of topics and may be the first, or one of the first, in the series. If only I could remember half of the facts I just read!

Quick read. Too many advertisements for other books. Some of the facts were questionable, but none did I know to be untrue.
Organized by subject matter, there were obscure facts and interesting items, but I would have appreciated more information than just a short paragraph on each. Nonetheless, interesting reading and a good diversion.
