I read this book in Dutch.
I thought it was a wonderfully adventurous story about exploration and a world unknown to me. Sometimes it was hilarious to read how different biologists worked once. I remember a passage where the narrator saw a beautiful specimen of an unknown species of bird... And he shot it to preserve and study.
