Ben smiled at how much she sounded like a Kindergarten teacher. Raising himself to his full height, he waited. When the door swung opened Ben felt as if someone had sucker punched him. Melina looked absolutely stunning! She wore a white turtle neck sweater pulled over black jeans and like every time he saw her, there was just a touch of make-up, enhancing her already beautiful face. Her hair was down again, tucked behind unadorned ears. “Hello, Angel,” he whispered and lowered his head to greet her when a questioning voice from behind her raised the hair on his body. “Ben?” Meeting his brother’s questioning gaze with shock, Ben exclaimed, “Richard!” His eyes swiftly swung to the woman standing in front of him as his heart skipped a beat and then another. There was confusion in Melina’s blue eyes as well as her tone as she asked, “What’s going on?” Richard beat him to the punch, “Mel, I don’t know who he told you he was, but this is my half brother Benjamin Lucas Grayson.” Melina’s gaze changed from confusion to understanding
A B Ewing is fast becoming one of my favourite authors.
This was another great read by her. This is Ben/Lucas and Melina's story. The story was romantic, engrossing, had twists and turns, kept me up all night until I finished it. Melina was no pushover and stomped all over her man when she caught him doing wrong!!!
I'll confess that at first I wanted to set Benjamin on fire cause he was so wrong (see how I made a play on the title there. However as the story progressed I began to kind of feel bad for him and could understand why he was doing what he was doing. Melina kept him on his toes and had him feeling all sorts of things.
And the love scene - carry a glass of icy water
I don't want to spoil it for you but I'll tell you this - it's a play on a romance favorite but spun in such a way you'll be glad you took time out to read it.
I like that this book was fresh. The plot was familiar but the execution was new. The author was not afraid to touch on things that make the hero real. The heroin was a fire stick and wasn't afraid to tell the hero just where to stick it. The characters were all realistic and I was able to identify with them. Would I read another book from this author? Yes! Would I recommend it to someone who wants a touching and realistic love story? Yes!
I would have loved this book if there had been more build up. It would have taken more thought and creativity. I liked how the brother got the women mixed up but not how it played out on Christmas. Did not feel like love.
