“Nothing good ever happens before ten in the morning.” ~Skylar Wolfe, PI

Skylar Wolfe is far from your average PI. Full of snark and purple hair with a quick tongue and no filter from her brain to her mouth. Trouble always seems to find her and she always drags her cousin Levi along for the ride.

But this last bit of trouble she seems to have fallen into is the deadly variety. There’s a corpse at her door (no really, I’m completely serious) with her name all over it. It seems she has pissed off the wrong person. Being Skylar the list could be a little long. She teams up with Norcrest’s new delicious lead detective, Aiden Livingston. Then leads the hunt to find the person responsible.

If you look in the local coffee shop or bookstore you might just find Mariana Thorn. She can usually be found with headphones in and deep into the worlds she has created. There is this thing about her pens if you touch them you might receive a smack to the hand and the well-known glare of destruction.
As a child all her stories involved horses, horses and more horses. There might have been a slight obsession. Writing became more serious in her early twenties but she never dreamed of publishing until much later. Mariana participates yearly in the international event called NANOWRIMO. She has even been known as a Municipal Liaison for that crazy event. There is nothing like the feeling of encouraging other writers, she would say.
Outside of writing one of her favorite places to sit and read are the sunny beaches of Florida. At home in Washington State her favorite activity is riding horses up on the mountain trails. She has an awesome group of family and friends that keep her in coffee and encouragement. Then there is her best buddy Tony, her little dog. She suspects he will try and take over the world someday.

Smart,funny and witty!

This book had me laughing and saying you go girl ! A good blend a sassy and take charge in the main character!

Skylar isn't your typical PI. She's a no nonsense kinda gal. With a body on the porch if her den and sexy uptight detective telling her that she might be the link. Will Skylar ever get to watch her shows ?

Looking forward to reading more from this series.

Tag along on this fast paced, giggle inducing, witty and absolutely clever first book in the Skylar Wolfe Mystery series by Mariana Thorn.
Skylar is a PI, but not your regular one. Her motto is; “Nothing good happens before ten in the morning” – and she sticks to it. She won’t even open her eyes until after 10. And if someone drags her up before that, they better have a darn good reason for it. Like a dead body, the zombie apocalypse beginning or pancakes. She is running the PI business with her cousin; Levi.
Skylar is definitely different than others; her mind works in strange ways (you might want Levi to translate for you once in a while), she loves food (she could eat all day!!), sleeps in, calls her office for the den and she speaks before she truly think – or so it seems. Her mind is sharp as a knife, and she notices things some people would overlook without second thought. I adore her mind. Mariana made me giggle more than once by things that Skylar said.
Mariana has created something unique with Skylar, Levi and their PI services. She made me giggle several times, just because Skylar is… well, Skylar. She is frank and speaks her mind; even if others around her won’t believe their ears. She also LOVES to tease people and mess with people, just to get a reaction from them.
After a bounty Hunt that was rough, Skylar runs home to relax and catch up on her favorite tv-shows, only to discover someone dumped a body on her porch. Which of course lands Skylar in the hot seat with the new detective in town; Aiden Livingston. Aiden is the opposite of Skylar; he’s tidy, follows the rules and according to Skylar; needs to get laid.
Slice & Dice is a fast paced short read which will leave you craving more, it will make you giggle and leave you wondering how the hell Skylar made the connection. I will definitely recommend Slice & Dice to anyone who loves a good laugh and quirky characters.

Review: 5

General: This story was absolutely freaking hysterical. Skylar is a snarky detective with more attitude than she knows what to do with. The short story had me laughing from start to finish. The book is filled with quirky, distinct characters and a mystery running throughout. It's not too often that a mystery is laced with the comedy of this book and still a serious case to be solved and I loved that. There's something so lovable about Skylar that seeing her start her journey was like hanging out with an old high school friend.
It's hard to write a review that wouldn't give away some of the best parts of the story because it's a short. So I'l leave you with an image - Skylar and her cousin Levi remind me of Shawn and Gus from Psyche.

Characters: Skylar- Skylar is witty, snarky and loaded with attitude. She doesn't really follow any of the rules but her own and I think her personal goal in life is to give Levi heart attack after heart attack.

Levi- Levi was actually my favorite character. He's a little bit of a side character but he was so entertaining to watch fall apart over his cousins actions. He was the want to be voice of reason that is never loud enough and always cleaning up the pieces.

Aiden- Aiden is first of all one of my favorite names on a hero! Not that's he's a hero, but I love the name. He's the opposite of Skylar and Levi so much so it brought it's own round of comedy. He's straight laced, rule following and a no where near as hard headed as Skylar.

“Nothing good ever happens before ten in the morning.” – Skylar Wolfe
Aint that the truth! Im liking this chick already. With a statement like that, I can already tell that Skylar is a genius!
I loved Skylar’s personality so much. Snarky, quick and witty remarks, no filter. She had me laughing out loud from start to finish.
Aiden just sounds yummy. I love how Skylar gives him a hard time. He’s going to have his hands full with Skylar. That’s a full time job all by itself.
“I think I need a translator just to talk to you.” – Aiden
I about died laughing so hard right there. Like laughing so hard I snort, then laugh even harder because I snorted. Poor Aiden. Good thing he has Levi to translate for him.

Adorable story. I opened it up, meaning to just skim through, and ended up devouring the whole thing in a single sitting.

This quick-paced, hilarious mystery novelette (only about 50 pages!) read like a combination episode of Castle and an old time Encyclopedia Brown novel. Everyone in the novel has a weird, silly, or strange name. After the first three, though, I was like "just go with it."

The dialogue is snappy, witty, and full of zany, over the top comedy. I could totally see this as a movie script, or a television show.

Brilliant, clever. I adored it, and I will be watching this author for later offerings.

Oh my holy goodness! I loved this! The energy of this story was amazingly fun! Skylar is definitely my type of person. She's fun, energetic, full of sass and sarcasm. She loves food and saying what is on her mind. This girl puts the sass in sassy.
The plot was intriguing, mysterious, yet fun and goofy. I love the way the author throws this girl with no attention span and who is a huge ball of energy into a crime story. I was captivated and swept off my feet with everything that happened in Slice and Dice. I am excited to know more about these characters!

☆This book was provided by the author/publisher for an honest review.

Skylar Wolfe is everything I would want to be if I wanted to work side by side with the law. She is quick witted, snarky and loosely reminds me of Sandra Bullocks character in Miss Congeniality. Mainly because I love me some Gracie and because they both are just a bundle of personality!

I am a giggler. I giggle for no reason. I even giggle in my sleep so when I started the book and Gracie.... Ahem... SKYLAR was shooting a bounty while her cousin Levi whined about his jeep I giggled and thought of Gracie punching the lights out of a playground bully for her crush. Anywho!!!

Mariana has the ability to capture her reader at the word go and take them on an adventure that, well, will make you giggle. I enjoy her writing style and her characters. I want to see more of Skylar and of course the odd mix WITH Aiden who I didn't even touch on because I just loved Gracie. #FacePalm. SKYLAR!! I won't be sleeping on Mariana ANY LONGER!! AND NEITHER SHOULD YOU!!!

HIlarious from the start! Right from jump Skylar and her cousin, Levi are out on a bounty that has gone downhill. You can tell right away that Skylar is very confident in what she does but has the snarky, smart alec attitude to go right with it. She and Levi are private detectives but also handle some bounty work as well. Skylar is a bit unconventional but makes you fall in love with her character as she is incredible easy to relate to. I think she could be my best friend, lol! She is put right in the middle of a murder investigation and gives the detectives a run for their money. So funny!

"What time is it," I grumbled. "Seven in the morning," he answered. "What the hell?” I burrowed deeper under the blanket. “Give me three more hours . Nothing good ever happens before ten in the morning."

"Come on, you know that you wouldn't survive the zombie apocalypse, let alone a psycho chick."

If you are looking for a fun and light read, this is absolutely what you need!

From page one, Mariana Thorn had me with Skylar's character. She is feisty, funny, sadistic and loves food and coffee as much as I do. This is the kind of series I want to take when my husband and I finally go on our honeymoon. It is so light and I was laughing out loud the entire book!! Not one to take on a plane bc then the people around me will be annoyed with all the laughing. Course I don't really care!!

Skylar is a strong, sexy, young and vigorous woman who embraces being female. She uses her wiles to make fun of others around her purely for her own enjoyment. But she is also extremely smart and quick. As a private detective and a sexy one at that, this comes in handy. She is constantly underestimated and that is the perfect place for her!

Book one takes us through a normal case for Skylar working with the local police department. She uses her skills to aid while getting to know the lead detective who has a cuteness to him.

What a funny story. How you make murder and hunting down the bad guy funny I don’t know but author Mariana Thorn did just that. I really enjoyed this fast pace laugh out loud story about Skylar and her cousin Levi.

Skylar is a bounty hunter and Levi is her side kick. After one crazy day they come back to the Den(their office) to find a dead body on their door step. Levi then faints. And Skylar then spends the rest of the time driving lead detective crazy.
This was a great sort story. I wish it was longer. I would like to see where Skylar and the detective end up. I like how Skylar is a quick wit and has you laughing the whole time she says it like it is.

This is a great quick read pick it up today!

Cute idea without a story.

This little book would have been much more adorable if there had just simply been more development of the plot,, the characters and some attention to detail. Nice editing and progression but there wasn't anything to hold on to. Too much Skylar and not enough on point writing. In fact, the title is misleading all the way around. Too many bones, no meat to bite into. I feel like this came across as a rough draft of a cute idea. But it stops there. It doesn't even really feel like a short story. There just isn't anything there. I am disappointed.

This book was a fun and VERY quick read. Aside from how fast the mystery was solved, I loved the author's writing style and I found Skylar to be a quirky character. Levi is the perfect balance for her, and Aiden has lots of potential as the perfect mate.

If you're ok with short novella's, then this is a good book for you to read, and perfect for YA to adults as it is pretty clean.

Short, quick, and a fun read. The only reason I knocked off a star is the lack of character development (which would kill the short and quick part of the book). I will keep this on a look for more list, hopefully there will be a box set available in the future as it appears there are four more stories planned.

A fun read

This is a quick read but that doesn't take away from the story at all. Skylar is a PI and a different one at that. She solves thing in her own way that baffles most people. Aiden is the new detective on the force and has peaked Skylar's interest

Too quick

The story was too short to get a feel for the main character. Did like how her mind operated and how she saw things. Hopefully the next book will be longer.
