World War 2: Pacific Theatre: A Brief History of the Pacific Theatre in WWII

Rate this book
America’s involvement in the Second World War may not have been there at the start of the conflict, but once they declared their involvement, the fighting was just as intense. Much of the American fighting took place in the Pacific/Asian area of the globe, and with that came a way to do battle that was much different from the fighting in Europe. Learn about the events that led up to America’s involvement in World War II, as well as the nuances of fighting on the sea, in the air, and on the land of the Pacific Theater.

* Japan’s expansion
* The attack on Pearl Harbor
* The American decision to declare war
* The Battle of Midway
* The bombing of Japan
* and much much more!

“When one thinks of the fighting in World War II, the Pacific and Asian areas are sometimes overlooked because of the focus on the action in Europe. However, it is important to note that the struggle over the Pacific Ocean and Japanese front are just as crucial as other parts of the war. This book is a good reminder of the details of this side of the conflict.” – Wes L. (Highspire, USA)

“America’s involvement in the Second World War stretched far beyond the European front and D-Day. The author follows the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and makes the connection to this event and the fighting in the Pacific Theater by land, air, and sea. Very informative read.” – Weston D. (London, UK)

Fantastic Overview of the WWII Pacific Theater

For whatever reason the Pacific Theater details are pretty much overlooked in today's society. I was surprised at the casualty count nearly equaling those of of the Eastern front. My eyes were truly opened at the cruelties and tortured practices by the Japanese on captured military and civilians alike which has been said to be worse than practiced in German concentration camps.

This book concisely takes one through the battles and events in chronological order in a very readable fashion. It will leave you with a reasonable basic knowledge of the Pacific Theater of WWI

I began this book looking for clues of where my father was located during this bullish campaign. Like most in this theater, he said very little of his experiences upon his return. All I know is that he was in the Army Air Corps as a mechanic. I vaguely think I recall mention of the Aleutian Islands, the Marshall Islands, and some unnamed jungle island where he hid out for months. He said he was rescued by a Navy ship and given Navy issued clothes. Indeed I found a leaflet in his footlocker. I had hoped this book would have triggered something so I could pursue his experiences for family history. Turns out it could have been anywhere and all. Of course, his records see in the ones that were burned. I'm going to continue my reading on the subject but if anyone out there can narrow it down for me I'd appreciate your advise.

I would highly recommended this book to all offspring of those soldiers in the Pacific. It will give you more understanding of your father for starters.

Nice brief synopsis of the Pacific Theatre of WWII. From the early origins of Japan's imperialism to the eventual surrender of Japan after a horribly bloody campaign, this short will give you the highlights of all of this. Enjoyed this quick history refresher.
