Seduction & Temptation is a prequel to Jessica Sorensen’s new Sin’s series. You meet two friends, Lola and Layton. Both are children of men in the mafia. Starting out, the two are young, barely teens. Then it jumps forward to the 7 or 8 years. Layton and Lola are 21. Lola’s father is in trouble and she’s got a choice to make. A decision that will change her life forever no matter what she decides.

Even though Layton and Lola have grown apart over the years, you can tell that he still has strong feelings for her. They have an intense connection and chemistry. The end was a little crazy and Layton leaves Lola with some sound advice…
“Run away. It’s the only way you’ll survive this. Run away and never look back.”

This was an interesting prequel. I love Jessica’s writing and the mafia theme is different for her. I’m not sure how this is going to go. I think the story coming up has a lot of potential and I’m excited to see what direction Jessica takes it. I like Lola and I’m very intrigued by Layton. Looking forward to jumping into Sins & Secrets next!

In this brand new series by Jessica Sorensen, Lolita Anders finds tragedy happening close to her. After her mother unexpectedly dies and then her father gets into some trouble with Frankie Catherlson, one of his enemies, Lola is kidnapped and forced to commit a crime that will undoubtedly change her life forever.

Since this is the prequel novella to the series, Sorensen works at a very quick pace, so quick that it can gloss over important details at times. She teases readers with this unexpected sexual tension between her once best friend, Layton who now works for Frankie. Hatred and lust fight for battle until Lola finds herself giving into those temptations. Getting out is a whole other problem.

I’m very intrigued by the premise of this series and hope that the full length will give readers the answers they are looking for. The romance will undoubtedly bring on a lot of angst and tension since Sorensen is known for amping it up when things get particularly hard.

This is a different route that Sorensen is taking with this series. However, the fast-paced action fits her writing well. Other stories I’ve read where the heroine gets kidnapped often comes across as too uncooperative. I liked Lola. She was afraid enough of her captors, but smart enough not to provoke them with smartass remarks that would stir their anger. If Lola continues to be smart in this dangerous game, she’ll definitely become a force to be reckoned with. SEDUCTION & TEMPTATION is sure to be a thrill ride.

June 27 can't come soon enough!!!

I'm dropping everything to read Sins and Secrets. This is the perfect prequel with just the right amount of action. Modern day Romeo and Juliet never sounded so good. I'm super duper excited for this series! :D

With 2021 nearing the end, I decided to try and clear what older titles that I can off my kindle. The Sins series, I read the first book a few months back and enjoyed it. Seduction and Temptation is the prequel to the first book and sets the scene. In Seduction and Temptation, we read the few defining moments in Lolita aka Lola's life that made her who she is today. The first was her mother's death which she was convinced was foul play, but nobody believed her. The second was finding the letter from her mother addressed to Everson which we find out more about in Book #1, the third was her losing her virginity to Layton - her former best friend and last but not least, her first time shooting someone and now as we know from Book #1 which is set a few years later, Lola must choose to face the consequences for her action as it's only a matter of time before death comes for her or run and make a new life away from her mobster ties and the drug scene she grew up in and become someone else. Seduction and Temptation by Jessica Sorensen is a great gritty and edgy NA romantic suspense and a quick read.

Hard to rate this book because it is obviously the set up and prelude to a bigger story. We meet Layton and Lola, childhood friends from different Mafia families. Lola's mother dies mysteriously during a "meeting" of the families and Layton is taken away by his family and Lola doesn't see him again until she is kidnapped and Layton is one of her captors. Layton's family wants to start a Mafia war and needs Lola to assassinate another family head. With her father also being held captive and his life threatened, Lola agrees to make the hit, with Layton's help.

Of course, Layton and Lola make passionate love before the hit is made and then Layton saves Lola's life during the assassination and sends her off with the warning not to believe what anyone tells her. The last we see of Layton is him being threatened with death by an unknown woman and then a gunshot.

This was a short book and about the only thing I carried away from it was I sure hope Layton isn't dead because I really like him.

On to "Sins & Secrets", book #2 (or l.0 because this book was 0.5) and yes this was confusing. Especially when I open up Sins & Secrets and there's Seduction & Temptation as the first part of Book #2. Buyer beware, you don't need to separately purchase "Seduction & Temptation", its already part of "Sins & Secrets." And, yes Lola thinks that Layton is dead. I still hope not.

Rating it Deserves: 3.5-4 Stars
Personal Rating: 3 Stars

An interesting read. Obviously I have some conflicting feelings about the rating so let's dive in to the review.

Characters
Lolita/Lola
I personally didn't take a liking her. I interpreted some of her feelings and actions as immature; one example is her distance from her father. I know why she's angry at him (and understandably so), but I feel that she's too impulsive with her decision to hate him. Yes he might've possibly been able to prevent her mother's death, but she seems to have forgotten during her angry moment that she doesn't know the complete story. I'm not saying she's not allowed to feel anger and hatred towards him, but to jut be aware and remember that (as far as we know now) it's not his fault.
Other than that, I was indifferent to everything else about her. The person she is now is pretty much cold and blank on the outside and angrily emotional on the inside. Again, she is understandably and (to a degree) rightfully allowed to feel this way, but having this kind of personality just made me distant and unconnected with her. Maybe I just need more time to spend with her in the 1st book?

Layton
Not much for me to allow an assessment for. He's just your typical hot opposite sex best friend who betrays you (in the leading character's perspective) for reasons unknown and you still have a stubborn attraction to him/her. I probably won't make any judgement call on him until book 1.

Plot
Nice concept. Not unique or special, but I personally don't thrive on completely 100% original ideas. Not that I don't love original ideas, I just understand that it's extremely difficult to come up with them whether intentionally or unintentionally. ANYWAYS, what the biggest factor for me is if you can create original characters and elements in a specific situation. Mafia, hits, and unknown real father aren't new to me, but I think the relationship between Layton and Lolita will be the big factor that will carry this series (which I'm sure was the author's intent so points on succeeding in that). Their type of relationship isn't unheard of nor are their dynamics unique, but Ms. Sorensen manages to make it enticing to read and get into.
Besides their relationship, I also think Ms. Sorensen does a great job keeping up the mystery. Still so many questions unanswered and many more popping up. I haven't read the 1st book's synopsis yet, but if I were to give you a prediction of what the next book would be about, I wouldn't really know. I mean most likely she'll, as said in the last few pages, go see if she can find her possibly real father, but it's kind of up in the air what the entire novel will include and the different directions it could decide to take.

This is very minor and very picky but I just want to point out two scenarios that I found a bit confusing in description. The first is when she's kidnapped in the SUV. I'm just wondering why Tony had to be the one to sedate her. If I recall correctly, 2 guys were on either side of Lola. One got out and Layton replaced him. Why didn't the guy who on her other side tell her to shut up/enforce Tony's demand for her to shut up? Why didn't he do the sedating? Why was he pretty much nonexistent during Lola and Layton's conversation?
As for the second scenario, it's when Layton shoots Anthony. Both get splattered with blood so I question their proximity in the room. What I imagined based off of the writing was that they ran into a room and maybe halted roughly a quarter to halfway between the exit and the table where Anthony and the bodyguards were sitting at since the environment made it difficult to move around (not to mention it'd be incredibly stupid for you to continue moving around without being able to get your bearings). I would assume the room is big/medium size if it's a room you do a lot of business in so they wouldn't have been in close proximity of Anthony when Layton shot him, thus they shouldn't have had blood splattered on them. I'm not saying it's completely impossible, but it's hard to understand how it all works when the proximity and size of the room are unclear. Also, I'm not sure if a 9mm would be quiet if it was fired behind you in the same room and in close proximity. Muffled maybe, but not faint and quiet. AGAIN, these are very picky and minor details, but I just wanted to acknowledge them just because having trouble fully understanding what's going on in a scenario can hinder the belief of the reality of a fictitious world.

Overall, the story was okay/good to me.The only thing keeping me from having a harmonious rating is mostly the lack of character interest. Even though we do get some background history, it definitely wasn't enough (at least for me) to really get to know the characters. Not that I expected to know them like they were my best friends, but I thought I'd at least establish a connection with them. Even though I wasn't enraptured in the story, I'm still interested in continuing in the series and seeing where it leads to.

I read Seduction & Temptation and Sins & Secrets back to back and I was so glad I didn't skip Seduction & Temptation because you really miss a lot of important parts of the story.

Lola and Layton are childhood friends. They are very close and their friendship seems quite normal except that Lola's father is some huge drug lord and her mother mysteriously dies one day. After that everything in Lola's life changes. Still friends with Layton but now he's done to work for the enemy and she's so confused as to why.

Years later she's kidnapped by a rival of her father's and made to do something she definitely doesn't want to do. Layton is told to make sure she follows through. Lots of drama occurs and quick decisions are made however, in the end Lola's life as she knew it has been changed forever.
By this point I'm so involved in this story I dive right into Sins & Secrets and I wasn't disappointed.

Sins & Secrets picks up two years later. Lola's been on the run from some really bad people. Her only connection to her past life is one aunt but soon she cuts ties because by talking to her Lola is putting her in danger. Now completely on her own and is living a double life. Her nighttime persona gets her mixed up in some trouble and soon she finds out the cover she thought she had is gone.

She begins to get these strange messages and because of that becomes extremely paranoid. She knows she should leave but not knowing who is leaving her notes and following her is driving her crazy. Things pick up at this point and she learns a lot about her past and there are a ton of secrets that are revealed and more that she still needs to learn.

Since it's mentioned in the blurb, I'm not giving anything away to tell you Layton shows back up but is he friend or foe? Either way let me say the chemistry is HAWT. Lola's head is spinning with the information that is thrown at her (and boy are there some surprises). She's completely confused and scared. She doesn't know who to believe and trust, plus the information she learned is quite shocking. But there's really no time for contemplation when there are some crazy scary people after her.

Between the two books there are lots of twists and turns. I was addicted to these books and can't wait for the next to come out. I need to know if Lola will be safe and how her relationship with Layton will work itself out.

Jessica sets things up nicely for book 3, Lies & Betrayal. I know I need to read it now!

Fantastic short prequel to what I hope is a great series! Our characters Lola & Layton are young teenage friends when the story begins & they are clearly starting to recognize each other as a little more than friends when tragedy strikes Lola's family. Their families are in the mafia & soon these two kids are torn apart. It seems that even though Lola & Layton should not have been friends due to loyalties to their family they actually were for quite a few years, at least until Lola heard that Layton is working for the enemy. Lola is blackmailed to save her family & she doesn't have much of a choice other than to fight back, and to fight dirty which means Lola will most likely never be the same. We know that Layton was her protector & confidant when they were childhood friends but who exactly is he now? Does he want more from Lola but he can't go against his family? Lola & Layton have a major sexual attraction going on & even when Lola should be scared for her life she can't dismiss Layton's seduction. The book ends on a great cliffhanger & we are left hoping Lola can make a clean break from her former life & start over...and yet what kind of life will that be without Layton? Great start to the series!!

Lola is used to having the mafia in her life as she’s grown up with it. After seeing the death of her mother, Lola is forever changed. She lives a self destructive lifestyle of partying and meaningless sex. Yet, Lola’s world is turned upside when she discovers a letter written by her mother the night before she died. When another mafia family kidnaps her and holds her father’s life in their hands, Lola must make a decision to enter the dangerous family life. Add in the fact her former childhood best friend works for a rival family and plays a part in her capture and her life continues to become darker and darker. Can she trust Layton?

Sins and Temptations wields a short but violence riddled tale. True to Sorensen’s writing style she filled each page with emotion, action and suspense. While mafia stories are not usually in my to be read pile, I couldn’t help but pick up this novel by one of my favorite Indie authors. I’ve loved every book she’s published in the past several years I’ve followed her writing and this is no exception. If you are looking for a fast paced, thrilling Godfather-esque ride, then the Sins series will be right up your alley.

This wasn't the book I was expecting from Jessica Sorensen. It was nice to see a book without the angsty teens, boys wearing nail polish, playing in a band listening to cool music, etc. However, I just couldn't get in to this book. The plot was a little weak and I feel like the situations were entirely unrealistic for teenagers. But what do I know? I have no mob ties, myself so maybe I shouldn't be the judge of that.

Anyway, I give the book three stars just because I love Sorensen books no matter how predictable and cliched they are. She's a guilty pleasure of mine. I just think she needs to stick with the formula she knows.

This is the first time reading a novel by this author but not the last and I'm wiil not be reading anymore. I'm extremely surprised at all the good reviews this book received , so maybe I read the wrong book? The presentation of the story line and characters was weak and undeveloped although it has great potential. I have never read any other mafia series that had my emotions all over the place but this one couldn't get it to move:(  I really really wanted to LOVE this book...but I ended up more in just "really frustrated...and I think it had to do with some of the plot twists that seemed way too over-the-top and not realistic...and with a serious plot.

It seems like a really good introduction. It has me wondering what's going to happen in Sins & Secrets. It also has me asking so many questions? Who should Lola trust? What's up with her parents? What the hell is going on with Layton? I'm definitely intrigued and ready to dive into book #1 and see what Jessica Sorensen has created.

Well what can I say other than yes, yes Jessica has done it to me once again....I'm going to have to run to Amazon for the next book in after this series prequel! I love mafia stories and Seduction & Temptation is no exception. The characters are crazy hot dangerous criminals and the sex is HOT! Only complaint here is this story was way too short! An interesting prequel. Lola is put into an impossible situation, pitted between crime families in a bid to pay off her fathers apparent debts. Her childhood friend Layton is charged with making sure she pays the wanted fee in exchange for her fathers freedom, and there are fireworks between the two as old feelings blowup, on his side at least. I can't wait to read what else is in store for lola.
