Seventeen stories about how efforts to improve health in developing countries saved millions of lives -- and millions of dollars. From polio in Latin America, to measles in southern Africa, to HIV in Thailand, these inspiring case studies show what it takes for global health programs to succeed.
With all the bad news of disease, famine and destruction in the world, it's nice to finally get some good news about the interventions that have been successful in tackling some of the world's most plaguing problems, from TB in China and AIDS in Thailand, to parasitic infection in Africa and smoking in Eastern Europe. 17 case studies are neatly summarized and highlight the factors that helped make these global health interventions so effective. Great motivation for future endeavors!!
Yay for public health programs that actually work! This is an inspiring collection of studies of health interventions that made a difference in the global community. Read the one about iodized salt in China. It's hilarious if you pretend it's a spoof on drug enforcement.
Why is this $297.00 on Amazon? Its paperback and about a centimeter thick. The librarian told me that its because the author wants to buy a cottage with her text book money, but why would you go into global health if that was your goal?
