description
Artists Mike and Debbie Schramer have been crafting and creating fairy houses for the past thirty years.

They use mostly found objects to piece together wonderfully unique and stunningly beautiful fairy homes, gardens, furniture and many, many more.

For years, people have asked HOW in the world to the Schramers make such intricate pieces...well ask no longer, for they have published a book!

This little how-to guide teaches all the basics of making miniature structures, followed by the buildings, furniture and accessories.

If you've ever wanted to make a fairy house, this book is for you!

All in all, I was rather impressed with this one! I liked the way they taught you how to make the shapes of the things, and then provided a bit of guidance regarding decorating...and then essentially told you to go wild!

The authors walk you through several different builds - from a forest cottage to a fairyland gazebo - there's something for everyone!

I especially enjoyed all of the beautiful full-color illustrations and photographs.

It was so cool to see how the authors have interpreted something even as simple as a chair at least a dozen different ways!

I had an absolute blast with this book and cannot wait to do my very own fairy build!

With thanks to the authors and Familius for sending a free copy in exchange for an honest review!

Very useful to a novice. There are clear instructions--with illustrations, step by step--for how to make a variety of items for the fairy garden, and since not everyone has access to the same natural materials, what with different climates, different flora, etc, she also offers alternate suggested materials. I am completely hopeless when it comes to art and fine motor skills, but I have actually been able to make three of the things in this book, and haven't failed at anything so far. For those interested in this craft, highly recommended.

My fairies are going to be the dopest fairies ever! I am going to make every one of these magical creations in this book so my fairies can look chic in there environments. From the canopy bed to a piano, a writers desk with little tiny books, and oh my golly a tiny tea party. Something different then I have seen in other fairy house books. My mama always told me if you have a glue gun you can build anything and this book proves it. Just some glue, flowers, sticks, and heart you can make your fairies very happy. Now on the other hand my hubby is going to think I’m wacky when he sees my tiny fairy village I’m going to build. Place it under my tree in the back yard and wait for the fairies to arrive. Hoping they will arrive that is. Anywho, this book is full of fun ideas for the young and old and give your tons of hours of creative fun.

Schramer, Mike and Debbie Fairy Houses: How to Make Amazing Fairy Furniture, Miniatures, and More From Natural Materials, 169 pages. Familius, 2015. $25.

Get out your glue guns and your harvest baskets! Be ready for months of inspiration for your fairy garden. The Schramers are masters when it comes to seeing nature in a creative way. The only thing that worries me is that a lot of the structures are framed with cardboard, so nothing is really meant to stay outside. But it is all so beautiful, I almost don’t mind. This is too much for a school library situation – way too much detail and complicated construction. But for a crafty adult, this is a fascinating read.

While I enjoyed the pictures, I found there was a lot of materials that only an adult could handle and the natural items could only be found in a place that had a wide variety of flowers and to be by the sea. Also there seemed to be a need to make on a very human scale without much to the magical element.

user friendly; this book is filled with tips and tricks to create structurally sound faerie homes. Tips on supports, adhesives, and how to prepare found materials. This book would be ok for a crafty adult beginner and seems most appropriate for someone with an intermediate or advanced skill level.

Great instructions, tips, and inspiration for making miniature furniture out of things found in nature - I especially appreciated the emphasis on using dried/dead things rather than disturbing the living.

A charming how-to book for fairy house making beginners. The project tutorials are all pretty much self explanatory by glancing at the accompanying photos. I enjoyed looking at the project inspiration photos and the indices of different materials.

A lovely, lush resource for making fairy houses, furniture, and other items. I could see these projects being especially fun for crafty grandparents to do with their grandkids. This seems to be a hobby that requires the collector's habit, and the book provides many suggestions for potential supplies.

Mike and Debbie Schramer does an excellent job in helping readers tap into their creative inner child as they explore the world of fairy gardens. The authors wrote this instructional guide by providing techniques and steps using natural materials to create projects for a miniature fairy garden. This is a very informative book and I highly recommend it to all who want to answer the call from the “wee people” to give them a place to frolic in. The reader’s imagination holds endless building possibilities.

I'll admit- I mostly enjoyed this book because of the images, but I ended up with a healthy dose of inspiration too. I may not ever have time to utilize the step-by-step instructions, but I definitely think they were well-explained and the pictorial illustrations certainly helped.

In which we are shown 22 delightfully whimsical projects from a display of 'ingredients' to a step-by-step guide to creating them. The color photographs are helpful and if you're just in the mood to enjoy what someone else has imagined you'll enjoy this too.
