Jane and Mike tell their story of courage and sffering in this incredible book. It's impossible not to be affected as Mike's bullish accounts are alternated with Jane's despair at the effects of her illness and the highs of her achievements. The term hero has been rendered almost meaningless by overuse in the media, but Jane is one of the precious few who have genuinely earned the accolade.
Truly inspiring Real Life story of a woman who is diagnosed with terminal cancer. A true inspiration for anyone diagnosed with any illness that mind over matter can make a massive difference to your daily life. We read how Jane trains and completes not just marathons but actually completes an iron man. The iron will of Jane is an inspiration to us all. The support and dedication from her husband Mike and the family is evident. The book is written by Mike and Jane Tomlinson and an absolute must read.
The first chapter alone grabs you by the heartstrings. This is a painfully honest and moving account of how Jane battled cancer and embarked on a series of adventures through a love of running and cycling, raising millions of pounds in the process. It's not sugar coated and the arguments, family strains and effects of this horrible disease are all tackled head on.
This book is an amazing account of the strength and perseverance Jane showed in the face of her illness and for that, she is forever a hero in the truest sense of the word. Rest in peace, Jane and thank you for sharing your story with us.
The Luxury of Time chronicles Jane's battle with cancer, from her first diagnosis to it's return in 2001 when she was told she would only have months to live. Determined to make the most of the time she had, Jane took up running and embarked upon a series of grueling races to race money for Cancer Research.
Jane and her husband Mike tell their story candidly - they do not cover up the tough times and constant struggles. And, although there was no miracle cure, there is hope within the pages that difficulties can be challenged.
I will admit to reading parts with tears in my eyes, particularly the parts involving their young children. But ultimately, it was an uplifting book and one that made me realise that challenges are there to be faced head on and not to be backed down from.
I read this after perusing some of the reviews of John Diamond's book detailing his cancer (C: Because Cowards Get Cancer Too). One reviewer gave C 4 stars because they'd read a better book (this one). I was utterly absorbed in Diamond's book, so I was intrigued enough to read this one too. It's long, gritty, very real and heartbreaking, Jane was clearly a very inspiring woman who did amazing things. On balance I preferred Diamond's book, but that could be because of my professional interest in head and neck cancers (I work in the ENT field), but this is an absorbing read.
Loved the book and the way it was written, but it was so sad and had me tearful most of the way through. She was a very courageous lady, mentally strong to complete all those challenges, in so much pain, and to raise so much money in the process.
Very sad, tearful reading, but realistic and a happy, for that moment in time, ending. A Lance Armstrong type strength. Sadly, Jane is now no longer around.
it seems wrong to say I enjoyed this book but I did like the way the honesty of anger and frustration came through always culminating in the coming together of family
Dit verhaal is pakkend mooi tevens vlot en aangenaam geschreven. Jane is echt bijzonder of beter een ongelooflijke vrouw met een doorzettingsvermogen dat ongezien is.
