Nastya Semyonov first met Haze at a bar, but for Haze Hopkins, duty calls before either can act on their desires. He’s gone without a glance back, leaving her thinking that maybe all the hot looks were only one-sided.
Fast forward to the next day, Nastya hitches a ride to her car that she left behind the night before, only to run into the same man from last night.
Neither one truly thinks before they act, and they spend a hot fifteen minutes in a fast-food restaurant bathroom before parting ways again.
It’s as she’s walking back to her car that she realizes how badly she’s screwed up.
Because her car is surrounded in police tape, and there’s one very angry man wearing a badge standing in front of it with her name on an arrest warrant for killing a man.
Lani Lynn Vale is married to the love of her life that she met in high school. She fell in love with him because he was wearing baseball pants. Ten years later they have three perfectly crazy children and a cat named Demon who likes to wake her up at ungodly times in the night. They live in the greatest state in the world, Texas. She writes contemporary and romantic suspense, and has a love for all things romance. You can find Lani in front of her computer writing away in her fictional characters world...that is until her husband and kids demand sustenance in the form of food and drink.
Lots of 5 star reviews on this one,but it just didn't work for me. Maybe the next entry in this series will work. How can this heroine be so stupid as to neglect her health like that.Type 1 diabetes is nothing to joke about !and hooking up in a nasty bathroom is not sexy to me at all.
Normally i love all the Books from Lani Lynn Vale, I read all of them. and even Re Read a lot. but this on was a miss, it drove me Crazy when Haze at chapter 2 don’t have any biological kids because it never happened to him. and at chapter 11 he got a 16 years old kid. I’m guessing the kid was supposed to be Johns. because they mention it during the set-up of cameras that john trying to get access this kid. but in the end of the book john doesn’t have kid. and suddenly haze got a kid and an ex-wife... That hole plot made the book irritating to read.
and it was a big mistake to make. I don’t get why nobody from the arc team that’s reading this book had noticed it and said it before it was published
The story hade the potential to be good but that part with the kid made it all just fall and in turn drove me crazy.
Oh baby this is the first time in over 10 years that it's taken me days to read a book because I'm in the TRENCHES of newborn faze and cluster feeding. But finally I got to it and oh my... Nastya and Haze are a delightful couple. All sass, secretive and dirty in the best ways.
Nastya is living her best life, having fought for her independence from her overprotective family for years. This woman was not taking prisoners when it came to her freedom. But Nastya is a little too laid back when it comes to her safety. Specifically medically. The woman needs a watcher for sure. I truly did love her though. She was sweet and genuinely kind but she also wasn't anyone's fool.
Haze is that type A everything in order personality. His life has order for once despite a crazy ex, and some big baggage alongside his sweet girl and pooch. His work is his life but even that has become a big question mark for him. Oh baby this man is all kinds of delish oozing confidence in spades with zero effort or finesse.
Put a type A control type and a crazy run with the wind type together and you have yourself an interesting dynamic but it really did work for Haze and Nastya. He protected her without making her feel suffocated. She kept him on his toes, showing him there was more to life than what he settled for. The chemistry is fire, the growth of them as a couple is perfect and the dynamics between them is everything.
Now I thought I was safe... getting the heart break outta the way in the beginning. But Lani had other plans and let me tell you .. postpartum emotions with this emotional rollercoaster truly did batter me. But what a journey. I loved all the characters and the rollercoaster of a journey they went on. And WTF was that twist about?! Excuse me!!!. My ghasts were truly flabbered.
I'm excited to read the next.. as always, this hit just right.
It was attraction at first site with Nastya Semynonov and Haze Hopkins but neither acted on it wishing they had. It isn't long though when their paths cross again and and in more ways than one. Nastya finds herself involved in a homicide and Haze is a Detective investigating. He knows Nastya is not involved and he is ready to walk away from the job as it is. Danger is lurking though and it is only a matter of time before someone gets hurt, but who?
Another riveting story by this author. I am completely enraptured by this series. Was not sure what to expect but each book is so completely different and unexpected. Terrific chemistry and a roller coaster of a ride.
Even better than the first book in this series. Haze and Nastya are on quite an adventure in this one. There is a lot of crazy going on. A serial killer on the loose. Hold on for absolute wild ride that will make you laugh , cry and want more. From start to finish this one will grab you and won’t let go.
This one is quite the adventure! Starts with a sizzle, a bang, a boom... 😁
I love Nastya & her whole personality. She's sweet. Yes, she's protective & knows how to defend herself, and she can do so, but she'd much rather snuggle with her peeps or a pet.
She & Haze have lots of chemistry & part of that stems from him being super protective. I love that aspect in general, but especially in this case bc it helps Nastya be more accepting of her brothers' protective nature, too.
I normally get the ick with the term "daddy" in intimate settings, but the way this nickname came about between these two is so perfect, I didn't cringe at all! Major kudos to the author!
There are a couple spots where you'll need tissues. 😭💕😭 There are spots where you'll need a fan. 🔥🌶🔥🌶 And spots where you'll be grinning without even realizing it! 🍬
Lot happens, but does it all make sense? No. Yes. No. Yes. No. Here’s a run down from my perspective. Hot Cop. Hoooooot. Vibrant girl who has excess amounts of sass- but a real lack of common sense as she will not respect her medical condition and the limitations that come with it. She’s a type ONE diabetic. The nonsense I read with her not eating, poorly eating, not responding to her warning APPs about low or high sugar- sheesh. Reminds me of people I know in real life. Nastya aka nasty to her brothers and Mama to her man. Yes it’s weird he calls her mama and she calls him daddy. Her job is interesting, she’s an Amazon reviewer and product tester and mystery shopper (the mystery shopper thing was a stretch as most companies don’t give much of a budget, it’s ment to test customer service and sales experience.) The Amazon reviewer aspect has more material to work with, as that is a business you build up based on how much you are willing to put into it. I would have liked to have a little more facts on this. More meat. He’s a cop. Detective. Investigating a murder. A murder his love interest is connected to. The mystery surrounding the murder not well plotted and we’re just ment to go with it. And with it we went. Many bodies dropped. Their sex life is interesting. Some being very steamy and their initial encounter having me worrying about germs. A bathroom encounter. In a fast food restaurant. Anyway, he’s a dad. Seems very dedicated to his child. Daughter is in a not so great home with the mom. Mom is sketchy at best. Which then turns into mom is an animal abuser and killer- yeah it spins and gives whiplash. The step dad is no good and the step son is an SA generator. It’s alphabet soup. A little bit of everything. Oh! And Nastya’s brother is the head of the Russian Mafia and a great patriarch who builds houses for them all to live in near each other. Yay. Ultimately, all the animals die : sadness : and they get more animals when time has passed. One death made much more sense then the other plot wise. Although technically neither made sense to my heart.
Genre & Tropes : romance contempox mafia-ish x suspense plot x police hero x spicy

A second book better than I anticipated
It took me a long time to read this book because, although Lani Lynn Vale has long been my favorite author, her recent books are far from my favorites ... And the summary of this one really didn't make me want to read it ><
BUT actually, it was an enjoyable read ! The plot was well-developed, and I enjoyed following the creepy murders and twists, as well as all the drama with Haze's ex, and the romance was better than I expected (except for the first "encounter" in the bathroom, which was a little too sordid for me) !
I liked the heroine a little less, finding her too childish (especially at the beginning with her behavior regarding her diabetes), but I loved Haze <3
In short, a pleasant romance to read but not necessarily my favorite by this author ...
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Haze & Nastya: triggers- loss, diabetes, stalking, corrupt authority figures, rohypnol, kidnapping, animal abuse, sexual assault etc.. She's done it again. Lani Lynn Vale gives us yet another book that isn't what we expect. Nastya is one of the Semyonov sisters, she works as a product reviewer from home. She sees Haze for the first time while out for drinks with her sister's (which includes Maven from “Clap Back” in The Carter's series). They never speak at that moment but when they do actually come together… let's just dub this a “MEET-HEAT” because it was so freaking hot and makes you crave a patty melt from whataburger at the same time. When it looks like a stalker is targeting Nastya, she discovers he's a cop and he'll do what it takes to protect her. Even something he doesn't want to do. This story is so multi-layered with multiple dilemmas that had my jaw dropping in awe. We get to learn a little more about the Semyonov family and more so with the head of the Bratva, Shasha. Even Haze is bringing drama to the party with his ex and with his boss FWPD. I'm so invested in this book that I didn't want it to end. But that ending had me gagged. I'm between tears and anger as LLV has managed yet again to find my own personal triggers (not on purpose but geez… ). This is probably going to be my favorite in this series.
Oh, how I love getting an LLV book to read. They are like the most delicious candy; I gobble them up in one sitting and am left craving more. Hey, Daddy was fun from start to finish with all the hallmarks of her writing. A bright, slightly offbeat FMC who is making her way in the world in her way. Yes, she's part of the crime family, but it's her family, and she handles it. They are a close family, and even though they brush up with law enforcement, their relationship remains morally gray. Haze Hopkins is a detective, and he is definitely morally gray. Not only is he perfect for Nastya, but he's also perfect for the Semyonov family. I will admit their "nicknames" for each other gave me a bit of the ick, but it's not that big of a deal. When I enter another writer's world, what goes on is because that writer has envisioned it. It is built on their imagination, creativity, and world-building, including characters and dialogue. That world is not built on my preferences, opinions, or desires. If I don't like something, I don't read the book. That's it. There's no point in complaining about it. Did the nicknames give me a bit of the ick? Yeah. Was it enough to change my opinion of what I consider to be a fun, fast-paced, romantic-action-suspense story? HECK NO! I loved everything about Haze and Nastya and can't wait for the next one!
I loved the first book in this series, but Nastya and Haze’s story has taken top billing in my heart. This book was an emotional, witty, steamy and suspense-filled read. Haze is a Detective that has an immediate draw to Nastya when they see each other in a bar one night. Little did either of them know that that wasn’t the last time they’d cross paths and the next time is passion filled and then everything changes in so many ways. I was literally on the edge of my seat reading this entire book.
Nastya is the younger sister of Shasha the head of the Russian Bratva. He and his brother are a little more than over protective of her which results in some actions/results that no one is happy about. When Nastya pretty much crashes into Haze’s world all bets are off on what the long term outcome is of their relationship.
Haze is a man that has no intention of ever falling in love with anyone but there’s something about this woman that he just can’t seem to get out of his system and when her life is in danger he’s front and center to protect and shield her. Little did either of them know that the path they’re going down will change not only their lives but the lives of people they love… but is it in a good or bad way? And will all these changes also affect Haze in how he does his job? Will love win out? Will good triumph over evil? These are just a few of the questions you’ll ask yourself while reading this book.
This book is one that will stay with me for a long time. I never thought I would love a Russian Mafia family as much as I love the Semyonov family.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.
This is the story of Nastya and Haze. I have to say that there is a lot going on in this book. From the moment you start this book until the moment you finish it this book is moving. It is fast paced and you won't want to stop reading it. Who doesn't love when there is a serial killer on the lost running around wild and free. Nastya is the sweetest girl ever. But don't let that fool you. The woman knows how to protect herself and won't back down. However, she really doesn't get why her brother is super protective. So much so that it drives her crazy at times. She has had to fight her freedom every step of the way. However, she is a little bit on the not being as safe as she could be side. I do believe that comes from having a family the was way way protective of her. Haze has his life in order now after dealing with a crazy ex. He likes order in his life and he is finally getting some after all he had to deal with. He is a man that loves what he does even if at times he feels like he has a noose around his neck. These two on paper are polar opposites but they really work. I don't want to get into the details of the story. But, it is a book that I devoured and you are going to love.
Lani Lynn Vale crafts a perfect blend of romance, suspense, and chemistry in Hey Daddy, the second book in the Semyonov Bratva series. This gripping story features a single dad and a heroine with a fiercely protective family.
Detective Haze Hopkins has grown jaded from years on the force, but everything shifts when Nastya Semyonov steps into his life. Their instant connection ignites into something undeniable, but danger follows when authorities wrongly accuse Nastya of a crime. As the lead detective, Haze finds himself caught between duty and love, forced to treat the woman he knows is innocent as a suspect.
Vale masterfully builds tension, unraveling the case at a pace that keeps the pages turning. She seamlessly balances swoony moments with high-stakes action, ensuring the romance remains just as compelling as the suspense. Nastya’s strength, vulnerability, and wit make her a heroine to cheer for, while Haze’s protective nature strengthens their connection. The Semyonov family injects humor and warmth, lightening the intensity without diminishing the stakes.
Set in Dallas, Texas, Hey Daddy delivers passion and plot twists in equal measure.
If you love protective heroes, strong heroines, and love stories that thrive in chaos, this book belongs on your shelf. Hey Daddy should already on your TBR, so prepare to be hooked. If not, add it today!
I recently finished reading Hey, Daddy, and I have to say, it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. This book earns a solid 4 stars from me for its engaging characters and heartfelt storytelling.
I found the protagonists to be well-developed, with their vulnerabilities and strengths shining through. The male lead's protective nature and the female lead's resilience created a dynamic that kept me invested in their story. Vale's signature humor added levity to the heavier emotional moments, striking a balanced tone throughout the narrative.
The pacing was steady, and the dual POV format enriched the story by offering insight into both characters' thoughts and motivations. The supporting cast was equally compelling, adding layers to the plot and setting up potential future stories.
While the romance was undeniably swoon-worthy, some plot elements felt slightly predictable, which kept it from being a full 5-star read for me. However, as a fan of Vale's work, I appreciated her ability to weave love, family, and personal growth into a story that felt both relatable and entertaining.
Overall, Hey, Daddy was a delightful read that showcased Lani Lynn Vale's talent for crafting heartfelt romances with a touch of humor and grit. It's definitely a must-read for fans of contemporary romance!
Hey Daddy by Lani Lynn Vale is book 2 in the Semyonov Bratva and focuses on the story of Nastya and Haze. Nastya and Haze have a lot of chemistry from the get-go, the only issue is that Haze is a police officer and Nastya comes from a family who blur the lines now and again, outing Haze in a precarious situation. Nastya is a sassy, secret shopper, but when a dead body turns up in her car, it sends her life spiralling out of control and right into Haze’s orbit and sadly the target of a serial killer.
Haze definitely believes in Nastya and is disheartened to see how she is treated when there is no evidence against her. He also goes through his own trials and tribulations with a very vindictive ex-wife, but a beautiful daughter who fits into Haze and Nastya’s relationship seamlessly.
There are some wonderful times between the characters in this book, which is fast paced, steamy and has a little bit of drama to keep you turning the pages. It is a really great addition to this series and will keep you engaged right until the end!
ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review. All opinions are my own. 😊
This is book 2 of the Semyonova Bratva series and it was just as thrilling as the first. The author gave us a well written storyline that had me reading into the wee hours to see what happened next. This is Nastya Semyonova’s story. She is a sassy, independent woman that gives her big brother/ head of the bratva, Shasha, fits. She is a reviewer/secret shopper and is making herself a good living. Well right up until she gets accused of murder because of the body found in the latest package she picked up. In comes Detective Haze. Yep the same one that has been after her brother (book 1) and the same one she met for a quickie in the bathroom not just moments before. These two have instant chemistry despite the circumstance. Luckily Haze believes she is innocent, but can he prove it before it’s too late? Especially when things start to turn more deadly in days to come.
Throw in Haze’s crazy ex-wife, his amazing daughter, fur babies and families and this book will keep you on your toes with moments of sadness, joy, laughter, thrills, tears and love. I can’t recommend this series as well as book 2, Hey Daddy, enough.
Someone messed up! They targeted the wrong woman and now they'll suffer the consequences.
Nastya Semyonov runs her own business and she's happy. She works from home and gets a lot of merchandise for free. When she gets an unexpected package her life will be turned upside down in more ways than one.
Haze isn't as happy in his job as he once was, now that he's older and has worked as a detective for so long and watched the legal system let people down multiple times, he's disillusioned on his job. However, his job also leads him to a sexy little thing that will turn his world upside down and she's ready to keep him on his toes. He just has to make sure that he doesn't cross her family, or that those looking to take her from him succeed.
I love Lani Lynn Vale's books! She incorporates characters from series that she's branched off of and her characters are always fun to read and get to know. I love how she writes her books, comes up with the witty statements at the beginning of each chapter and how her stories evolve. She's definitely a one-click author for me whenever she has a new book or series. I can't wait for the next book to come out!
4.5 Stars This is the second book in the series. I loved the name of this one. Haze may be a single dad, but he also gives off Daddy vibes for Nastya with the age gap. This book shows underbelly of corruption in this world. Nasty people need to meet some karma and if Haze can help Sasha do it he will. I loved how protective Haze is of Nastya. She deserves someone like Haze. He is protective, but let's her breath. I liked how Nastya and Haze's daughter Desi bond. I don't know how Lani Lynn Vale wrote a few parts of this book because man it just tore my heart out and knowing the loss of Big John I would have been a sobbing mess. Not gonna lie a few times I had to stop and take a breather because man this book is good, but some parts were a little rough to read. Yet again Lani has a way with her writing that sucks me. Even if it's not a typical book I would be drawn to I will never pass up a book by Lani because the characters she create hook you in. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
I have honestly been on a bit of a mafia kick lately and this one definitely added fuel to the fire. I loved this first book in this series so I know I was going to be reading the rest of the series and well it’s amazing.
Nastya and Haze are so good together, I had a feeling when we first met haze that he would have a story and I’m so glad we didn’t need to wait long to get it.
Haze has been through a bit in his life time and when he finally does something for himself, the next minute it turns out she’s his main suspect. I also loved nastya she has a killer personality and doesn’t really care what you have to say, and she knows what’s going on haha.
I absolutely loved this book and cannot wait for the next, if you have any other mafia recommendations let me know.
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC copy of Hey, Daddy and for that I am very grateful.
Hey, Daddy is book two in LLV’s Semyonov Bratva series and is the story of Nastya Semyonov and Detective Haze Hopkins.
When I say LLV brought it with this story, she brought it! There were so many emotions involved in this story and she took me on the wildest of rollercoaster rides I’ve read so far this year. I love the relationship Haze has with his daughter and I would LOVE to throat punch that ex of his for what she does, but she gets hers in the end so I was happy with that.
The strong family ties are ever present, not to mention LLV’s quirky sense of humor throughout. And of course, the ever present just the perfect amount of suspense with a twist I didn’t see coming. I know I say this every time she releases a new book, but this one has quickly become my new favorite lol.
Vale continually wraps a couple around my heart! The second book in the Semyonov Bratva series is action packed with intense heat, warm interactions and suspense to keep you turning page after page. I was quickly hooked on Nastya and Haze and loved every minute of their story! The tension is high, the connection between this couple as well as other family is really heartwarming even as danger is lurking around the corner. I can’t wait for more to come in the series!
My favorite character was Haze. He’s goodhearted and out to do good in the world, but life just keeps knocking him down and making him see that everything isn’t black or white and he occasionally has to tolerate a little gray in his life. He’s a fun one to get to know.
I highly recommend this book as well as the entire series to anyone that loves a close knit family with a criminal backdrop but hearts of gold.
Nastya Semyonov is a product reviewer and secret shopper, but her life takes a thrilling turn when she locks eyes with Haze from across the room. Their chemistry is instant and explosive, though circumstances keep them apart—until fate throws them together in the most unexpected way. The problem? Haze is a cop, and Nastya’s protective brother, Sasha, absolutely hates him. When a dangerous stalker sets their sights on Nastya, Haze steps in to protect her, leading to a suspenseful, twist-filled ride that will leave readers stunned. Packed with sizzling romance, heart-pounding action, and jaw-dropping surprises, this Lani Lynn Vale novel is an unforgettable standout in the series.
________
Thank you Give Me Books Promotions and Lani Lynn Vale for providing me with an ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.
This is the second book in this phenomenal series and this is Haze and Nastya’s story. Nastya is sassy and sweet, and she knows how to protect herself, and Haze is a single dad and detective. These two cross paths in a bar, and then again at a fast-food restaurant, and after a hot encounter in the bathroom, Nastya comes out to find police tape around her car, and finds herself a suspect in a murder case, and an angry Haze, is standing there with an arrest warrant. This is a well written action packed, emotional roller coaster, with family, friendships, intrigue, overprotective brothers, murder, drama, mystery, determination, humor, witty banter, crazy ex’s, combustible chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, spicy, and fun addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
Nastya and Haze are a brilliantly unexpected romance. These two are funny, sparky and heated together. Following on from Shasha 's book I was expecting something a little more Bratva. But this is more Bratva adjacent with Haze being a police officer and Nastya being under investigation due to her family link to Shasha.
I loved the threat and underlying serial killer plot which underpins the narrative. There is a sense of menace looming over these characters and their loved ones.
This is a pretty brutal story at times and an unexpected death had me in tears. But just have faith as everything works out the way it should with retribution sought where needed. And Haze and Nastya get their HEA
Oh and if you're put off by the whole 'daddy' thing. This is not that. Their playful banter is brilliant and the daddy label is purely another dimension to their playfulness.
This is the second book in the Semyonov Bratva series. They are standalones, but it's one family. This is Nastya and Haze. Nastya is Sasha's little sister and she is one amazing lady. She also makes me, and others, mad by not listening to her body. I do wish I had her job though. Well, minus the dead body and being set up for murder! Haze is a detective. He's on that isn't on Sasha's payroll. He's great at his job, but he's over it. These two together are awesome! I love them both! I didn't see all the twists with this story coming. It kept me on my toes and very interested. I absolutely love this family and can't wait for more!
"Feeling offended is a fucking choice. The moment you let somebody else's words upset you, you've let them defeat you. And who the fuck wants to lose a battle of opinion?"
It was supposed to be a one time, good time, but Haze quickly discovers Nastya is his newest murder suspect. He knows she is innocent but his boss doesn't care. Each time they cross paths their connection grows. But, there are so many forces at play fate may never give them their chance.
Holy Moly! What a twisted roller coaster of a plot! All Nastya wants is to be normal. But, her own body is against her. And, her over protective brother is the Pakhan to the Russian bratva. Not to mention, someone has framed her for murder. And, poor Haze is put through the wringer so many times it's amazing he is still standing, between his ex, his job, and what's happening now with Nastya.
Hey, Daddy is emotional. The plot is very fast paced and suspenseful with twist after twist you won't see coming. And, Haze and Nastya are perfection together. 5 stars!
Hey Daddy, hits hot, hard and fast with these two. However with danger, drama and chaos thrown into the mix these two will have hurdle after hurdle to avoid. Haze and Nastya story is overflowing with suspense to have you on the edge of your seat. Nastya was a character you could not help but love, she had a strength you admired, a heart of gold and I just loved that she walked to her own beat. The way that Haze cared for her and ensured her safety was at times breathtaking. The storyline had plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing. The heat that ignited between these two radiated at every interaction as the chemistry was off the charts. Their story kept you captivated and engaged as well as falling in love with this couple.
Omg loved loved loved book 2 in this series. It was just as good as the first one. So this is the story of Nastya one of the Semyonov sisters. She goes out one night to the bar with her sisters and while there she spots Haze. They lock eyes and have a moment but sadly work calls for a Haze and they don’t end up meeting. Fast forward to the next morning Haze is at the coffee shop refueling while working a case and runs into Nastya. Oh boy it’s a hot moment between them, wink wink. The new case Haze is working on May complicate things for these two but luckily for Nastya, Haze sees the grey areas. I would recommend reading this book there was some great twist and turns, great laughs with the family and some spice.
Haze and Nastya.....I have been trying for 5 days, since I finished their book, to decide what I love and hated about them. First off, there is too much to list that I love. I'll give ya'll few things that stand out for sure. 1. Nastya has a "normal" non mafia job, that makes me want to change careers. 2. There's a serial killer (I love murder shows, so this tracks as something I love). 3. There's a push and pull between Haze and Nastya that you just become a part of and can't help but root for them. 4. There is a crazy ex-wife that just adds a certain amount of crazy to the whole story line. Overall, I loved their story. It's well written. The story line flows. There's not any plot holes. There's not any jumping around. I know you're gonna love it. 100% recommend this book!
