Xarc'n Warriors #8.5

Hunter's Valentine

Rate this book
Food and water? Check. Shelter? Check. Weapons and ammo? Check. Check.

I thought I was ready when the apocalypse came, but I wasn’t prepared for dirty bunker politics. Realizing I’m no longer welcomed, I step foot into a hostile landscape, ready to face down the deadly space bugs in search of a new home.

It’s just my luck that I run afoul of a massively muscular, horned and fanged Xarc’n warrior on my very first day out. Mur’k carries me back to his hideout, claiming that I owe him for messing up his hunt.

Nope! No way! I didn’t survive the bugs just to become some cocky warrior’s plaything. I don’t care if he’s hot as sin and purrs like a big cat. I’m going to make it to New Franklin on my own if it’s the last thing I do!

A Hunter’s Valentine is a standalone novella-length story set in the Xarc’n Warriors universe featuring a protective hero with alien anatomy. It takes place between Book 8 and 9, but there’s no need to read in order. HEA guaranteed!

Terrific Xarc’n warrior story!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 🖤💙💜💚🩷
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌍
Character development: ☹️😋😀😘🥰

The heroine: Sara - since the bugpocalypse began a year ago, she had been living in a bunker under a mansion with a group of other people. The owners of the mansion and the bunker were basically in charge and invited other people that had necessary skills, and everybody brought a bunch of supplies including Sara. Her skill was as a midwife since the couple in charge were pregnant when the alien bugs invaded. However, after the baby was born and the husband started showing an interest in Sam, the wife blamed her and started to spread rumors that she had been stealing supplies.

The Hero: Mur’k - He wasn’t on earth to find a mate like other hunters. He lived for the hunt and was only out to kill more. He had been setting a trap for the scourge the past few days and today was the day he was springing it. He had been luring a gathering of the alien bugs into a particular street in town where he had laid his traps, but when they were just blocks away, they caught the scent of something else and veered the wrong way.

The story: Sara had overheard the people in the bunker talking about kicking her out soon, so she stole some supplies, which she didn’t feel guilty about, since she came in with so much and she foraged for a lot of the supplies. Plus, if she was being kicked out for being a thief anyway, she might as well. She planned to head towards New Franklin where some other survivors had a settlement.

When the incoming swarm of alien insects caught Sara unaware, she did her best to get out of the situation by throwing her bag full of rotting meat to distract them. She then tried to hightail it out of there, even knowing that the meat only gave her a few seconds. Mur’k was not happy to see that a human had gotten the bug’s attention since he was on par to beat his personal best with this large group of the menacing bugs, and that was now ruined. Though when he smelled a lone female, he decided he should save her.

This was a novella in the Xarc’n Warrior world, and though it wasn’t technically one of the series, it probably should have been. I really enjoyed the story, and the two characters were both great. They had a lot of chemistry from the start. I am always surprised at how some authors can do a terrific storyline and some steamy scenes in a novella and others just seem like a really short book, missing elements. This was definitely one of the good ones.

Gleeful Goblin Review: In my opinion, there are few things that are more attractive than competence and reliability. Being able to have the confidence in your partner that if they say they'll do something you know that they can and they will do that thing. Those qualities become even more critically important in situations like a bug invasion style apocalypse the likes of which our main characters find themselves in. So the fact that when they meet, one of the first and most important things our MMC notices is our FMC's survival and hunting skills is *chefs kiss*: "The female had pulled down several shelves in an attempt to stop the scourge. Two dead scuttlers lay twitching on the floor. She must have gotten them in the head. Only a few Earth weapons commonly carried by civilians were strong enough to pierce through the main body carapace, and hers hadn’t been loud enough to be one of them. A third scuttler lay trapped under a fallen shelf. The female looked up and our eyes met through the broken store front for a split second. There was recognition in her gray eyes. I might not have noticed her because I was so engrossed with the scourge, but she’d known I was here. But there was no time to marvel that her eyes were the color of storm clouds because the first scuttler was already on me. Years of training took over as my body effortlessly went through the movements of a de@dly dance, slashing until there was nothing left but severed, twitching limbs, and headless scourge. As I moved, I could feel the female’s eyes on me. I sure hoped she wouldn’t turn that weapon on me now that the scourge were no longer attacking her. She seemed to know exactly how to use it, which was incredibly $e×y. I approached my last adversary, the spitter. Knowing it couldn’t attack me without its acid, it turned tail and fled. But I didn’t let it get away. I threw my battle axe. The edge of it glowed with plasma energy as it spun through the air and arced toward the creature. Then it sank into its thick skull with a satisfying thud. Another loud crack had me turning to see the female landing a heavy iron bar into the head of the scourge trapped under the shelving. She tossed the iron away, then pushed the hair that had fallen out of her braid back from her face before leveling her gaze at me. She looked ready to fight me too. Krux! That was the $e×iest thing I’d ever seen."

If I were in this type of an apocalypse instead of the drawn out and banal one where we still have to pay rent during the whole thing, this is exactly the type of meet cute I'd hope to have. This book was a thoroughly great time and an excellent distraction from real life. 5/5 Stars.

Excellent!

Sara was a midwife before the bugpocalyps and has been living in a bunker with other survivalists. But her time there is running out as she is hearing rumors that the leader is going to kick her out. So, she plans her escape and runs on her own terms. Unfortunately, she runs into a group of the scourge and gets trapped in a building. When a huge purple Xarc’n warrior comes to her rescue, she is both thankful and scared. The rumors in the survivalist group say the Xarc’n are looking for women and forcing them to mate. Maybe she can just thank him and then run!

Mur’k is a Xarc’n warrior that prefers to hunt the scourge on his own. He doesn’t stay in one area, just goes where he is needed. Many of the warriors have mated with the humans but he is not interested at all. He only works alone and that’s all he needs! He has been working around the New Franklin area and has set up the perfect trap for the bugs. Just as he starts to lure them in, they go in a different direction scenting food. When Mur’k discovers it’s a human female he is angry she ruined his hunt, but he can’t leave her to be eaten by the bugs so he rescues her. But is she thankful, no way! She can’t seem to get away from him fast enough. He wants her to stay and hunt with him because they seem to work well together, but she is determined to get to New Franklin to offer her services to that group.

Even though he doesn’t want a mate, his body seems to have other ideas. He agrees to take her to New Franklin to get rid of her. Sara is thrilled that Mur’k is taking her to New Franklin, but she has gotten attached to the grumpy warrior and is hoping that he might agree to stay there so they can be together. But he drops her off and leaves without even saying goodbye, on Valentines Day no less. Can Mur’k get his act together and admit that he loves her before he ruins the best thing that has ever happened to him?

I love this series and this is another great addition! Another great book by Lynnea!.

Holy Moly!!!! This is a series that just keeps getting better and better. Mur'k is one of the rare hunters that has decided that having a mate is not for him. He fights the bugs alone, and challenges himself to get better and better. Sara is one of the lucky ones that got into an underground bunker with some other select people at the very beginning. It isn't until she starts hearing the discontent of a friend and former employer that wants her to be kicked out as her husband has started sniffing around her. Sara decides to leave before getting kicked out. Better to leave on your own terms then be left with nothing.
Sara runs into bugs and gets into trouble even though she puts up a good fight after encountering Mur'k who was watching things from the rooftop of the building she had snuck around. Mur'k hears her fighting and comes to her rescue and carries her off to his shuttle complaining that she has ruined his biggest possible hunt. The banter between these two hilarious and really starts the chemistry between the two. I absolutely enjoyed every single moment of this book and so cannot wait to see what Lynnea has in store for us in the future. I am one of those that so can't wait to read more of them. This is a definite must read you would be a fool to pass up this book!!!!

Hunter’s Valentine is an engaging interlude novella in the Xarc’n Warriors series.
MFC Sara has left the bunker where she’d been surviving with other humans after the alien space bugs had attacked Earth two years prior. Now under threat of being kicked out she decides its time to leave on her own terms.
Heading out with the New Franklin settlement as her destination and using rotted meat to distract the always present bugs, she slowly makes her way.
Xarc’n warrior MMC Mur’k is on a bug hunt and Sara’s appearance throws his plans into disarray, and he isn’t pleased.
Blaming her for distracting his quarry he doesn’t hesitate though in saving her from danger, even as her intoxicating scent becomes an even bigger distraction for him.
I really enjoyed Mur’k and Sara’s story which was entertaining, spicy, with a little contention, danger, action, humor, and adventure.
For Mur’k though fighting against that mate bond will not be a winning proposition, especially when that purring starts up!
With it’s nicely written narrative that takes place before another Valentine’s Day during the bugpocalypse, two delightfully crafted characters were brought together in a very captivating, Sci-Romance read I adored.

A satisfying short story

I liked this novella. Although it was short, it conveyed everything – a good plot, romance, emotional struggles, sweet and hot moments. Our main MC’s are Sara and Mur’k. Sara is a midwife. She decides to leave the group she was staying with after the alien “bug” invasion after she overhears the leaders saying that she is now useless to them and want to kick her out. Her goal is to reach New Franklin – a city created by survivors. On her way, she is attacked by these centipede-like nasty aliens, interfering with Mur’k’s hunt of them. He saves her and together they fight them and destroy them. From the moment Mur’k sees her, he starts to feel a bond – a bond he doesn’t want, because he is convinced that he doesn’t want a mate. So, while she also starts developing feelings for him, he decides to help her go to New Franklin and offers her a partnership in hunting the nasty aliens. A miscommunication, some hurt feelings and regrets later – and there you have it. A warm, swoon-worthy romance and a HEA with Valentine’s Day as a background.

All in all, it was a fun, easy read in this amazing dystopian world Lynnea Lee has created. 4 stars.

Hunter’s Valentine is an amazing alien romance which I thought to be quite entertaining and an enjoyable read. This book has a fantastic plot, wonderful characters and a phenomenal ending for the main characters. Hunter’s Valentine is fabulously written, exceptionally balanced and beautifully executed by Lynnea Lee. Lynnea Lee continues to prove what an incredible author she is with each book that I have read by her so far. Hunter’s Valentine follows the journey of Mur’k and Sara. I absolutely loved getting to know Mur’k and Sara as well as seeing their relationship come to life throughout the pages of the book. The characters are well developed and beautifully executed throughout the story. I love that Mur’k and Sarah have a happy ending to their story with them being happy together as a couple. The chemistry between Mur’k and Sara is undeniably irresistible to where neither one of them could no longer ignore the feelings between them. I’m looking forward to reading more amazing romances from Lynnea Lee in the future. I would most definitely recommend Hunter’s Valentine to anyone who enjoys reading alien romances.

'Unlike other warriors who were eager to find their mates, I just wanted to hunt. I didn’t need a human female dragging me down... a mate and a family were the dreams of other hunters, not mine. I was happy to spend the rest of my life hunting the scourge.'

I loved this book. The Xarc'n series is one of my absolute favorite alien romances and they always hook me from the very first chapter. Great world building and wonderful characters. I loved both Sara and Mur'k. Sara was smart and a survivor. The people she'd been bunking with were turning against her and believing lies about her, so she left with some supplies rather than be thrown out at their whim.

Mur'k put a lot of time and effort into a trap to kill a large number of the scourge when Sara attracted them and ruined his hunt. He was not happy- and certainly had no interest in finding a mate. But Sara intrigued and impressed him. She was tired of taking crap from people and climbed right up on top of some debris to get at eye level with him to poke him in the chest and tell him off. I'd liked her before, but I loved her then! Mur'k was also amused enough to sling her over his shoulder...

A very fun adventure! I could read about the Xarc'n and the females they fall in love with every day! 5 stars.

We're back with the big purple warriors back in the earlier days of the infestation (ehhh...earlier-ish) and it's loner Mur'k who's up. By the by, Mur'k is NOT looking for a special someone. Nope. Not looking. Not interested. No way.

Until, you know, he is. I mean, sure, he doesn't WANT to be, but Sara captivates him. And somewhere along the way, Mur'k comes to find out that having someone to watch your back isn't such a terrible thing. After all, he can have some pretty epic bug hunts when he's got eyes in his shuttle watching over him.

On Sara's end, she's not necessarily thrilled to run into a Xarc'n warrior almost immediately after leaving the compound she's been surviving in. But Mur'k (and his shuttle) does make traveling a little easier and she doesn't dislike the big guy. It's just, you know, she had a plan. And she kinda wants to stick to it and Mur'k and his muscles are distracting.

A little danger, a sweet look back on the survivors making things happen to take back their corner of the world, a lonely warrior who doesn't realize what he needs until it crosses his path, and a lady who ends up being VERY glad she partnered with her big alien!

I absolutely adore this series! The best part is that each book can stand on its own, so you won't feel lost if you jump in at any point. This particular book is a bit shorter, but trust me, it's still a fantastic read! The Xarc’n characters may be a little different, but they have a wonderful way of charming their human mates with their big, gallant hearts.

In this story, our Xarc’n hero wasn’t actively looking for love, but the universe had other plans! There was a moment when I thought he might have missed his chance, but it seems his hard work is being rewarded. He managed to open his heart to his special someone, and the feeling was mutual! It made Valentine’s Day such a memorable occasion for them. What a sweet love story!.

I have been enjoying the Xarc'n books and this one was no exception. This novella is a quick read, perfect for a single setting.

Sara has been living with a group of survivors for nearly 2 years - since right before the bugs came to Earth. But lately, she realizes the other survivors are unhappy with her. So, before they officially ask her to leave, she gathers supplies and leaves on her own. Unfortunately, she stumbles into a trap that Mur'k has in place...

Neither Mur'k nor Sara are prepared for the attraction they feel. But the timing isn't right - Sara is headed to New Franklin to join their community and Mur'k prefers to hunt alone.

With Valentine's Day quickly approaching, will they find love in their hearts for one another anyway?.

This was another wonderful addition to the series and I loved the idea that neither Mur'k nor Sara were looking for love. These two meet under life threatening circumstances and end up finding they work well together at exterminating bugs. Sara is a midwife, though, and wants to see if her services are needed at New Franklin. Mur'k helps her get there, and knows there's something about her scent that calls to him, but he just drops her off! Huh... Well, the author had me hooked before this part with the banter, action and chemistry, and thankfully, she had my back with an HEA for them, too ;D I really enjoyed this Valentine's bugpocalypse romance and am always ready for more books in this series ;D

So far, I've really enjoyed all the books in this series, and this book is no exception. This novella can be read as a standalone. Mur'k and Sara are likable characters who have to cope with a very difficult existence. Sara is a strong, no-nonsense human woman who is a midwife and a good hunter. She is forced to leave the bunker she lives in due to interpersonal problems. Mur'k, a hot Xarc'n alien, notices her when she messes up his hunting traps, and they are immediately attracted to each other. I like how they work together to hunt a whole bunch of bug aliens. I enjoyed the action, the humour, the spice and the world building.

"Okay, note to self: do not grab the bull by the horns unless I want a wild ride."

Sara is taking control of her life in this post-apocalyptic world. Day one and things almost immediately go to ruin.

Mur'k is an Alien hunting the bugs determined to destroy Earth. He has laid traps and set up for an epic hunt, with everything going to plan until a human woman stumbles in and draws his prey to her.

This done in one kindle unlimited quick read focuses on seeing the opportunities in life, making the most of what we have and what is around us, recognizing who is a positive part of our lives, and who is using us without reciprocating or treating us fairly or with respect. In the end, it uses Valentines Day as a catalyst for remembering to respect ourselves.

Sara is striking out on her own in the bugpocalypse to make it to New Franklin. She’s leaving behind the bunker she was surviving in to find a better place. While on this journey she runs right into the hunting grounds of a massive and tough Xarc’n warrior named Mur’k.

He’s a bit perturbed to have his hunt ruined but he’s definitely more than pleased with Sara. He rescues her and takes her with him. They didn’t intend on meeting each other but fate stepped in and their chemistry is undeniable.

Love this story about Sara and Mur’k!! The Xarc’n series is definitely worth reading. There are so many great stories in this collection. Highly recommended!!

Loved this story that's about Sara a midwife and Mur’k a Xarc’n warrior. It was a delight to read their romance story and who can't love a hunking purple Xarc'n warrior smashing bugs for you. Sara was accused of hitting on the married husband who owned the bunker she was living in. She fled to go to New Franklin. On her journey she runs into Mur'k who's setting a trap for the bugs. The bugs scent her and start chasing her. Mur'k comes to her rescue. Mur'k swears he wants no mate, but her smell entices him. Will this be a beginning of a Valentine romance? Loved the characters and the story in this copy I'd received and volunteer to read and review.

Lynnea Lee’s Hunter’s Valentine is short and so sweet. Sara, midwife, has left the bunker community before they can kick her out based on lies. Now she’s trying to reach New New Franklin but a horde of the Scourge attacks her, trapping her in a store front where Xarx’n lone warrior Mur’k saves her. He admires her spunkiness. She admires his physique. Nature takes its course as they battle the scourge. Then she heads out on her own again, but runs into infected humans from whom he saves her again. They get to the new community but neither feels secure in their relationship. Well they get together? Duh! Read the hot encounters yourself!

This brought back memories of the series and how much I had enjoyed those books. In this we have a loner warrior and likewise a human female, who escapes the confines of the bunker she had previously lived in.
Sara ends up being rescued by Mur'k who initially is somewhat peeved, that she interrupted his hunt. :D She was headed for New Franklin and now has new choices. Mur'k had made it clear he wasn't looking for a mate, but that soon changed. :D It was a lovely short read and still full of the emotion, touches of humour and adventure with those god-awful creatures! :D

Mur’k and Sara
Sara left her bunker after she over heard they were gonna kick her out. The leaders no longer needed her services. Mur'k never wanted a mate like most hunters. He only wanted to hunt the deadly alien bugs of the bugapocalups. He saves Sara several times from the bugs and infected cannibal humans. Their attraction is strong as they try to resist and with Valentines Day coming, will thesectwo finally admit their hearts belong to one another?
Action and danger packed, full of drama, plenty of steam, sexy Xarc'n warrior and one brave human woman, and happily-ever-mated.

I am in love with this series. I cannot get enough of this series. Sara leaves the bunker she has been staying in, since the bug invasion, when the other want to get rid of her. She was a midwife and they wanted her there in the beginning. She is heading to New Franklin where she has heard their are pregnant women that may need her. Mur'k has strategically set up a trap for the bugs to kill them in a large quantity, when something catches their attention. He is not happy. He finds Sara and protects her. What will happen now?.

Post-Apocalyptic Valentine’s Day

It’s a bug-filled, semi-nightmare-ish, certainly-not-the-Hallmark-holiday, Valentine’s Day for Sara. First, she’s cornered by the scourge, then this big purple alien rescues her. Mur’k is just annoyed that his hunt got interrupted. These two start out fighting each other, but then figure out they’re much better as a team. I really enjoyed this short romance, Sara and Mur’k were delightful with their banter and “little hunter” nicknames. I also really enjoyed view this world afresh from new characters’ perspective. A wonderful read, perfect for a post-apocalyptic Valentine’s.

This is a series that I have loved for many years and I can't see that changing at all. This is a shorter more novella length tale that is perfect for this time of year. Mur’k is a solitary Xarc'n warrior who is something of a nomad, just going where he is needed as he has never felt the pull of a mate. It's not anything he plans to change any time soon except for the fact that he meets Sara. She is determimed to get to New Franklin and is part grateful and part terrified of being with the hulking purple warrior who saved her. Mur’k has to also learn to deal with what most males consider to be the cultural hell that is Valentine's, will he be victorious?

Cat videos - need I say more!!

“How could I deny her anything? If she asked me to move the planet for her, I would.”

What is a Xarc’n hunter to do when a human messes up his bug trap? Well, reluctantly help her of course. Sara was on her way to New Franklin when she inadvertently ruins Mur’k’s hunting. He physically rescues her but she saves him with her courage and love. Adventure, new found friends and a new life awaits them both. A wonderful addition to the series!!.

A fun , quick novella just in time for hearts day.
I loved the humor, action and steam to the eventual romance. Well written. The flow was good. I loved the plot. The fact that Mur'k did not want a mate and that Sara was hesitant to be with a warrior was unique.
The journey to their well deserved HEA put a smile to my face.
If you like the Xarc'n series I know you will love this one as well.
I also loved the cover.

Yet another great Bugpocalypse installment but in a short story. However, it is jam packed with all kinds of action and new world building. This was another fun concept about human's and their strange holidays.

Mur'k and Sara decided a long time ago that they do not want to ever find their other half. The fun begins when they do meet their match and try to deny it at first. Great short read, that was unfortunately over way too quickly!

This is another fantastic story of the Xarc’n warriors series. I can honestly say that each story is individual and brings drama and action that will keep you motivated to read the whole book. In this story, Mur’k and Sara bring a a lot of drama and hot spicy moments and a love that develops like all the others, slowly but powerfully and lots of laughter. I really enjoyed the interaction between these two characters and of course their happily ever after.

Although this book is part of a much larger series about the Xarc'n Warriors on Earth, Lynnea Lee does a great job getting the reader up to speed with the background. Sara, a human midwife, leaves a colony of humans before she is thrown out because of petty jealousies. She is a strong hunter but when she runs afoul of Mur’k, a Xarc’n warrior, she finds more than alien warrior. Well paced storyline, compelling characters, steam, action, and more, this was a sold 4 star read for me.

This was a fun, spicy, short, romantic read. I especially loved the fact that there was very little drama (y'know, the extra long "I don’t want you!" Scenes.) Sure, there was a little resistance, but for the most part they both fell hard and fast. I know that drama can make books more exciting, but too much just makes my stomach turn and I often don’t enjoy reading them if they drive me too nuts. So, very pleased with this book, and I hope others will enjoy it too.
