Following the loss of her son William in World War I, and the subsequent death of her husband, Betsy Meldrum is determined to make a success of the family farm. Despite having help from her two daughters, Marian and Elspeth, she eventually has to give up and sell the farm. Marian makes a fresh start as a teacher at the local school, but her relationship with the new farm-owner, Paul Holt, begins badly. As Paul tries to make a success of the berry farm, the Meldrums begin to adjust to their new life, until a stranger arrives from France with startling news...

About the author

Anne Forsyth is a Scottish writer. She worked as a newspaper reporter, a sub-editor on a woman's magazine, and then as an overseas and managing editor in educational publishing. Her writing developed from adapting favourite Celtic tales and legends for overseas markets, into writing original stories for children. She has twenty-two published books to her name, including The Far Horizon.
