Starts with a description of matter. Describes Solids which it describes as something that keeps their shape unless you do something to change them. The next page gives a scientific example of how you can change solids, by creating playdough from 1 cup flour, 1/4 cup alt and 1/2 cup hot water and food coloring.

Next it goes over liquids which has no shoape of its own and takes the shape of the container. The science experiment for this one is to pour liquid into three very different containers and ask a friend to guess which has more or less, but in fact they are all equal and only the containers make the water amount look different.

Next they go to gases which has no shape of its own and spreads out to fill a container whether a bubble, bicycle tire or a room. For this experiment, it has a child add two large spoonfuls of baking soda to a balloon then pour vinegar in an old empty juice or soda bottle. When you stretch the balloon over the bottle the baking soda will fall into the vinegar and fill up the balloon with gas from the reaction.

It goes into how liquids can become solids by freezing or solids can become liquids by melting. The science experiment for this is making ice cream.
Then the book goes over how water can evaporate into a gas. The science experiment here is to get 1/4 warm water and 2 tablespoons of Epsom salts and to paint with this water salt on dark construction and when the water evaporates only the salt will remain.
Next is mixing matter, how you can combine solids and liquids to make something new such as baking and how bubbles in a fluffy cake are from gases that escaped.
Finally there is a review for kids and notes at the end for parents or teachers with suggests on how to take the lessons further (for instance it identifies the gas in that gas experiment with the balloon as carbon dioxide)
Very good book. Approachable for young kids with good experiments and nice illustrations that will capture kids attentions.

Title (italicize): Change it! Solids, Liquids, Gases and You
Author: Adrienne Mason
Illustrated: Claudia Davila
Genre: Children’s book, Nonfiction, Physical science
Theme(s): Solid, Liquid, gas, Matter, shape, space
Opening line/sentence (type directly from text): “Matter is all around you.”
Brief Book Summary (2-3 sentences in your own words): This book explains the different states of matter(solid, liquid, and gas). This book also provided activities that the students can do to test their understanding of each term.
Response to Two Professional Reviews (3-4 sentences in your own words): Melanie and Denuse agreed that this book explains the different states of matter. Denise also states how the book provides activities for the students to do at home alone. Both of the reviewers gave this book 4 stars which they enjoy this book. I also enjoy this book because not only is this age appropriate for preschoolers to learn about the different states of matter, but it only provides activities for them to do that will put their understanding of each term at test.
Tell Me Framework (4 sentences in your own words):
Like(s): Provide a table of content, color scheme, illustrations, bold headings
Dislike(s): I dislike nothing about this book
Patterns(s): Each section is about matter which is solid, liquid, and gas.
Puzzle(s): I was confused about nothing.
Consideration of Instructional Application (3-4 sentences in your own words): I would use this book in a preschool setting by having the students give me examples of matter(liquid, solid, and gas) and also the definition of each term. I will give the students a worksheet with pictures that either illustrate a solid, liquid, or a gas. The students will cut out the pictures and place the pictures under the right headings. This will help me to know if the preschoolers understand the concept of each state of matter.

This book is a very good informational book on the states of matter and how to get a better understanding on them. It is an amazing children's book that helps teach kid's about solids, liquids, and gases in a fun and entertaining way. It provides the readers with interactive task opportunities to help them get a hand on experience and get their own visuals on the states of matter. This book also can provide younger kids with the necessary knowledge on matter from a young age so that they understand what it is and how it works. Overall, I would very much recommend this book for children of all ages since it can be a fun and interactive way for them to learn about matter as well as its properties.

This book is a great book that teaches children about the different states of matter and changes in phases. The author includes five fun and inexpensive activities that allow children to engage with the concepts discusses, a scientific explanation is provided for every activity. There are amazing illustrations that help children see the concepts. I would highly recommend this book to anyone because it has incredible gender and cultural representations, there are white, brown, Asian, and black representations. I used this text as a read aloud for my first grade students at the end of our unit on matter. Was a great conclusion for our unit because it covered almost everything that we went over in class. I also enjoyed the rhyming scheme of the text as well as the bright pictures. I would definitely recommend this text for lower elementary school science class.
