Hem köpek insanı hem de kırk merak aşkımla okudum. Yani ne bekliyoruz, kapakta Anna Karenina yazmıyor neticede. Vaat ettiği gibi kendince bir şeyler değiştiren köpekleri anlatıyor. Ben eğlenerek okudum.

Köpekler yüzyıllardan beri bir çok kez mutasyona uğrayıp günümüze kadar yaşamayı başarabilmiş, hayatta kalmış canlılardır. İnsanları hayvanlardan ayıran tek fark düşünmektir. Bu kural sanki köpeklerde işlemiyor gibi. Dünya tarihine baktığımız zaman her alanda birçok başarılı köpek karşımıza çıkıyor. Kitap da bize tarihi değiştiren köpeklerin neden bu kadar önemli olduğunu anlatıyor. Çok da iyi yapıyor. Bazen bilmeden de olsa bir imparatorluğu kurtaran köpeği görüyoruz, bazen bir romanda, bazen bir filmde can bulan, bazen de sahibine besteler yaptıran. Tarihteki ünlü köpekleri eğlenceli bir dil ve bilgilendirici şekilde okuyucuya aktarıyor. Kafa dağıtmak için güzel çerezlik bir kitap.

Um livro engraçado que nos apresenta cães como protagonistas, na história política, no cinema, na literatura e na cultura popular.
O cão a que achei mais piada foi o da mulher de Napoleão, que nunca queria deixar a dona, nem mesmo na noite de núpcias com ahahah.
Mas há outros 99 que também tiveram os seus momentos gravados na história, Lassie, que afinal era um macho, o cão que inspirou Conan Doyle a escrever O cão dos Baskervilles, um cão que viajou por todos os E.U.A com funcionários dos correios, os cães que combateram em guerras, os que auxiliaram políticos, etc...

Info too brief on dogs. Read the books devoted to the main dogs instead of this. Or go to wikipedia articles.
It may be fun for the reader of this review to see how many of the dogs I mention they recognize and if they have read at least one book on them or with the full story..
All the big hitters are there including; Barry, Judy, Sgt. Stubby, Strongheart, Seaman, Fala, Checkers, Togo and Balto, Beautiful Joe, Boatswain, Charley, Lad, Hachiko, Rin Tin tin, Greyfriars Bobby, Nipper, Pal, Bamse, and Tang. I have books that cover 16 of the ones in that list... just not the political dogs and Nipper.
There was one that was more interesting to me, about Dumpy, a stray a guy in South Carolina liked, so gave to his trainer friend Whit Boykin, who developed a breed from that dog.
OK, so I didn't remember who Tang was but remember hearing the story of the newfoundland dog who swam a lifeline in heavy seas from a floundering ship to the shore so a pulley system could be used to ferry all 92 souls to be saved.

bugüne kadar okuduğun en ilginç temalı eserlerdendi.
Tavsiye ederim. Hiç bilmediğiniz isimsiz kahramanları tanıyor ve okurken kesinlikle günlük yaşamdan uzaklaşıp keyifli anekdotlarla meşgul oluyorsunuz.
Keşke bu meşhur köpeklerin, mümkün olanlar için elbette, birer de fotoğrafı olsaydı ya da belki biraz daha detaylı bilgiler.
Ama bu kadarı bile bana yetti, keyifle bir çırpıda okudum.

Yüz farklı hikaye, yüz farklı köpek.
Aslında içerik olarak daha tatmin edici, roman ya da hikaye kıvamında bir anlatım beklemiştim. Fakat kısa kısa yaklaşık iki sayfalık anlatımlarla köpişlerin hayatı özet geçilmiş. Sanki bir danışma kitabı gibi geldi bana.
Yine de arada tanıdık köpeklerle karşılaşmak güzeldi. Çocukluğumuzun Lessie’si, Drew Barrymore’un köpişi.
Kitabın adı biraz içerik ile alakasız olmuş gibi oluyor bu durumda. Uygarlığı değiştirmek ile Drew Barrymore’un alakasını kurmak biraz güç oldu. :) Başlığı okuyunca daha çok dünyada farklılık yaratmış simalar ve onların köpekleri ile olan iletişimleri bilgi olarak verileceğini düşünmüştüm. İsim sizi yanıltmasın yani.
Yine de hep dediğim gibi hiçbir kitap kayıp değildir. Köpek seven kişilerin kütüphanesinde yer edebilecek bir kitap olmuş.

I really liked this book. Mainly because I am a dog person. I love dogs, though I'm not too fond of cats. I loved reading about how dogs not only rescued people, but also inspired them, and were faithful and devoted.
It's a beautiful little volume.
The only detraction was the one page that actually happened here in the Tri-Cities. I was a little disgusted to see a mistake when they misidentified our local newspaper.

this is a quick fun read. It is devoted to dogs who have made the news or history over the years. Each dog written about runs from one page to three. broken down in several categories. such as hero dogs, dogs in history. and famous dogs such as Lassie, Rintintin, Strongheart. I found some of the stories better and more interesting than others.If you love dogs as much as I do, this may be a fun book for you to read.

ktorý inšpiroval Sira Arthura Conana Doylea k napísaní Psa baskervilského,
ktoré psíky majú svoju hviezdu na Walk of Fame,
ktorý z nich bol najmenším vojenským psíkom
... a ešte mnoho viac o ďalších úžasných psíkoch :)
Sám lord Byron venoval svojmu milovanému psovi nielen nádherný pomník, ale aj báseň s epitafom:

Carinooo!
Un volumetto delizioso, con immagini in bianco e nero e storie su cagnetti interessanti.
Alcuni racconti vorrei averli saltati...non ci vuole molto a capire quali, ad esempio quello sulla vivisezione. Ma la maggior parte sono bellissime storie sui cani e sui loro bipedi, perchè è chiaro che un cane intelligente deve avere la possibilità di esprimersi e questo è compito dell'umano!
Tra le mie avventure preferite ci sono quelle di Rin Tin tin, il cane che salvò la Warner Brothers; Gunther IV, il cane in panciolle (chi se lo ricorda? E' quello che abitava nella ex villa di Madonna, il cane ereditiere!); ok, in realtà tutte...
Ci sono i primi protagonisti del cinema e la loro vera storia, molti cani di personaggi della letteratura, della scienza, della storia. Compresi i casi solo menzionati credo si superino i 100 cani, ma di mio potrei aggiungere che anche Maria Stuard fu accompagnata al patibolo dal suo cane, come si ricorda per Maria Antonietta (l'ho letto nella biografia di Maria Stuarda scritta dalla Fraser, non l'ho sparata a caso!), poi quello che è menzionato come Gelert, un cane gallese, credo sia una versione della storia del Santo Levriero, un vero culto a un certo punto del ME, in Francia...solo che non ricordo dove ne ho letto! pppfff! un cane contro la perdita di memoria potrò addestrarlo?

100 Dogs Who Changed Civilization was an easy, interesting read on some of the dogs who have impacted history. I enjoyed reading it in bits and pieces, sometimes as a palate cleanser (so to speak) between books, and sometimes just to wind down in the evening and read about a dog or two before bed. It is broken down into the following sections:
Science and Nature
History and Government
Art and Literature
Popular Culture
Heroes
It has a few illustrations, but is not illustration heavy. It's typically 1-2 pages per dog, and you'll see some familiar names: Hachiko, Laika, Sergeant Stubby and some less familiar: Seaman, and some dogs with no recorded names, but all with their own interesting story.

Just as the book title says, this is a compilation of dog stories. Famous dogs, heroic dogs, loyal dogs, dogs who act, and dogs of famous people. It’s a fun read and I learned some things!

arih kitaplarında insanların sadakatinden çok hayvanların sadakatine rastlandığı sözünü tamami ile onaylamış bir kitap. İlgimi en çeken ise lakya oldu. Hakkında yaptığım araştırmalar ve boy boy resimleri içimi cız etti.Aslında eğlenirim umuduyla aldığım bu kitap laykanın varlığından haberdar olmamla, göz yaşlarıyla okumama sebep oldu. Ciddi bir hayvan severseniz favoriniz olacaktır. Belediye başkanlığına aday olan köpekle, 1999 marmara depreminden 82 saat sonra bir türk kızını göcük altından cıkaran mans'a, süleymanın ruhunu bedeninde tasıyan akıılı köpekle bu sayfalarda tanısacaksınız. Öneririm :)

You would be surprised how many canines have affected history. This was a fun book, especially for the dog lover. I'm glad that someone thought to keep a record of these furry adventurers, so that we could all enjoy learning a little more about history.

Köpeklerin farklı dallarda gözsterdikleri hünerleri kısa hikayeler olarak okuyoruz bu kitapta. İlginç ve yeni bilgiler öğrenmek de cabası! Örneğin uzaya ilk çıkan canlının bir köpek olduğunu öğrendim ben ve tabi daha nice şey! Özellikle dog person'lar okumalı :)

Izrādās, ka grāmta ir kā iesieti tie mazie rakstiņi no sienas noplēšamā kalnedāra - tikapt "literāri" un tikpat "zinātniski". Verēju uz sirdi sildošiem stāstiem ("Cāļa zupas..." garā), bet nekā tāda te nav.

Lovely book that is very informative in regards to dogs we know and love and some we do not. Always knew dogs were very special animals an this book is proof that all breeds of dogs are special.

Cute little short stories. I'm only disappointed that some of the honorable mentions seemed more interesting than some of the honorees.
