David Kirk is the creator of children's books that follow the character Miss Spider. Before writing books, he made colorful toys that were sold in hand-painted boxes. He was urged to write children's books when his toys caught the interest of a book packager. It wasn't difficult to figure out what he would use as characters in his stories: his daughter, Violet, had a liking for bugs.

This starter book is about a community of friendly bugs with a whole lotta love. Here, Dragon the dragonfly wants to join with other dragonflies since he doesn't feel any belonging with the other insects. By then he figures out that families ain't somethin you choose: families love you regardless. These books have good positive messages kids need and the bugs they can grow to love too.

I happened upon this at random, not knowing anything about the series. The story of the caterpillar turning into a butterfly is accurate, but nothing special.
